i love talking about music because i love learning about the small things that other people pick up and latch onto. the little beat switch in the middle of the song, that stupid adlib you can't stop repeating, the way that guy sings that one line kinda weird?
those little things can instantly breathe new life into something i might otherwise find boring. the connection someone can have to a song is just beautiful :)

Package Pt. 2 - Gustaf
i've been wringin my grubby little mitts together thinking about this one. Gustaf is one of the few bands i like that i truly found on my own, so i have stake in this agenda
the best way i can describe this album is controlled chaos. it gives off the vibe of an old piece of industrial machinery that should have been replaced years ago. the instrumental clanks together in rhythm until a belt snaps, and the whole thing chugs to a halt, goes haywire, and goes back like nothing ever happened
the vocals feel like intrusive thoughts slipping through just smashing into each other, especially on "I Won" and "Ground"
one of my favorite d&d characters i've ever played was based off of this album, so thats gotta mean something to someone probably. 8/10

American Beauty - Grateful Dead
i think deep down in my subconscious i really wanted to be a deadhead, but i was never chill enough for it
nowadays it's a lot easier for me to let myself just sit and enjoy something for what it is, and thank god for that cause i've been missing out on some bops
"Sugar Magnolia" got me in such a good mood when it started, i went outside and sat on a little bench swing in my backyard and restarted the album so i could experience it with the sun on my skin
i've noticed that i don't listen to a lot of "slower" music, i really like it when something is big and explosive. it's been a nice reminder that not everything has to be going on all at once, you can take it easy every now then. 8/10

The Colour And The Shape - Foo Fighters
Foo Fighters is a band that i think i got stockholmed into liking
one of my friends was the biggest fan of these guys that i have ever met. i've learned more about the band members than i personally ever wanted to. another one of my friends would shit talk you if you even mentioned listening to them once. i have never met a person with a mild take on Foo Fighters for some reason
let me be clear; i will stand atop the walls, sword in hand ready to defend dad rock til my dying breath. the album is not the greatest. it feels a little outdated and corny at times, and that's completely fine!
mostly unrelated to the review, but Frost Children threw in "Everlong" on their Elevator Music set, and this was like a week before it came out that Dave Grohl cheated on his wife again. i kid you not, i have never laughed harder in my entire life. 6/10
#music review#foo fighters#6/10#alternative#rock#grunge#still theres one thing that comforts me#since i was always caged and now im free

The Low End Theory - A Tribe Called Quest
this ones a little treat for me, i have a great fondness for this album
growing up, my folks listened to a lot of classic hip hop, so this album got a bit of a head start in imprinting on my tastes
my best friend was a huge fuckin nerd (affectionate) and one of the only black kids in our very very white and rural town, i was rather heavyset at the time and also queer as shit. we weren't treated terribly, but to say we were outcasts with our peers would feel like an understatement
whenever we were out on one of our delinquent teenage missions though, loitering in walmarts and the sort, this was the backing soundtrack nine times outta ten. we felt like the coolest fuckin dudes around. i wonder if we could still go along with "Check the Rhime" if we tried.
words cannot do the justice, this is not an album you just read about. it's a must listen. i leave this review with a quote from "Verses from the Abstract" that resonated with me
"Once had a fetish / Fetish for some booty"
and Q-Tip was so real for that. 10/10

Neon Bible - Arcade Fire
making a note that i am probably not intelligent/motivated enough to give this justice, it's very well made
when i listen to "Black Mirror", all i can picture is peering into the void, the complete absence of anything. gazing into the pitch black at the absence of a reflection. this song is cool
i got to "(Antichrist Television Blues)" and thought 'oh this is a fun little song", looked at the lyrics and just. gross, ugh, yuck, etc. i hate hate hate it but in a good way
this was a very easy listen, but a little tough to comprehend sometimes, for me at least. this is an album i'd be interested to hear what other folks think about it, i find it really intriguing. 8/10

NO HANDS - Joey Valence & Brae
this is where the Bon Iver review was supposed to go but i goofed it! too lazy to fix my queue, just wired enough to replace it with something else
i see No Hands as the unofficial little brother to Charlie XCX's Brat. not only were they released the same day, but i'd argue that they bring same heat to the table
these guys are loud, in your face, and they demand that you have a good time. if "FREAKS" doesn't make you bust down like your life depends on it, then i would be disappointed but ultimately understand your decision.
sometimes music is made to send a message, tell a story, maybe to work through something personal. sometimes music is made just to make some good ass music. both are very important. 8/10
#music review#joey valence & brae#8/10#hip hop#hip groove. sassy pelvis#stanky leg. i know you smell this

RTJ4 - Run The Jewels
YEEAH BABEY THIS IS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT, THE RANDOM LIST OF ALBUMS NEVER FAILS ME
i've noticed a pattern where i tend to really enjoy music duos where the Larger One forgoes eating the Smaller One for the time being, RTJ is not an exception
every time i listen to this album i get a That's So Raven-esque premonition of the nearest brick and cop in my area
both El-P, and especially Killer Mike in my eyes have such a beautiful rhythm that just seems so effortless. these guys are the human equivalent of laminar flow. it fucks so hard
i wouldn't say a lot of the songs have a ton of replayability on their own, but i also wouldn't say that any of these songs are anything less than solid. 8/10

Dogrel - Fontaines D.C.
i saw this album on my list and thought "i have no idea who this is" until i realized i'd been bumping their newest album back when i was a janitor. so at least i had something new to look forward to from them
⛔WRONG⛔
"Big" has been in my playlists for years now. this guy is 4 steps ahead of me at all times
when a song is a dude just kinda talking to you while the instrumental is going insane is one of my favorite genres of music, and "Hurricane Laughter" is delivering
oh and just when i thought i was safe turns out "Boys in the Better Land" is also another song that i've listened to for a while, wow. is my memory this bad? have i listened to this before??? im confused, good album, 8/10
