Solas: How can you be happy surrendering, knowing it will all end with you? How can you not fight?
Varric: I suppose it depends on the quality of the fermented fruit juice.
Solas: So it seems.

Solas: You truly are content to sit in the sun, never wondering what you could've been, never fighting back.

Varric: Ha, you've got it all wrong, Chuckles. This is fighting back.

Solas: How does passively accepting your fate constitute a fight?
Varric: In that story of yours—-the fisherman watching the stars, dying alone. You thought he gave up, right?
Solas: Yes.
Varric: But he went on living. He lost everyone, but he still got up every morning. He made a life, even if it was alone.
Varric: That's the world. Everything you build, it tears down. Everything you've got, it takes. And it's gone forever.

Varric: The only choices you get are to lie down and die or keep going. He kept going. That's as close to beating the world as anyone gets.

Solas: Well said. Perhaps I was mistaken.

Fly away, little crow
This is a short story of why Fillip disappeared for two years before the Veilguard, without warning his beloved siblings.
TW! Mentioning of blood and eye injury
"You're an idiot."
"You said it already."
"Apparently, not enough!" Viago's voice raised and Fillip winced, as it ringed in his heavy head.
Job supposed to be simple. He found trail of the mage, track him down, cornered him... Ah, right. Then he summoned the demon. Bloody thing took Fillip by surprise and scared his face. Flash of pain came almost immediately and blood ran out fastly, blocking the view of his right eye. Crow managed to avoid next hit, what could end him, and charged on the demon. He squeezed an axe in his left hand, holding back blood with the right one. While he was fighting, mage managed to slip away. Fillip would try and follow, but he knew what if blood won't be stopped soon, he will die before he say "Crows send their regards."
So he got to his safe spot, small room in Drowning District, patched himself up... And then Viago broke into the place. And screamed at him. And threw his dagger into the wall near Fillip's head. And then he cursed Crow again.
"I thought you are capable enough to complete such easy contract!"
"I am, just-"
"No 'just', Fillip!" Viago stopped him, before brunette had even a little chance to defend himself. "You embarrassed yourself back there, you embarrassed me, Maker, you embarrassed whole de Riva house!"
Fil hanged his head, not being able to look at his mentor. Man was right, he was always right. Crow let him, all of them, down. Hell, can he even call himself a Crow after such "performance"? Maybe Fillip should just be called a "failure" from now on... Viago probably wouldn't mind.
Man decided to look up at his Talon. Eyebrows frowned, not looking at him, arms crossed... He thought, he got used to seeing this expression since the childhood, after he failed times and times again. But it never got easier.
"You need to get out of the city. No one will know about this... Embarrassment."
"What about the target?" Fillip asked quietly, checking bandage on his face, what covered wounded eye.
"I'll send someone, after him, without telling it was yours. Maybe Aria. Or Heloise. Damn it, even fledgling would do better..."
"Yes, I got it," brunette said sharply, interrupting the Talon. He could be polite and quiet, but headache was getting stronger with every minute, and he wanted to be done with it as soon as possible. "I'll sleep through night and in the morning, I'll-"
"No. You're heading out now." Fillip paused and looked at his older brother with a wide eye.
"But... Viago, my things and injury." he could swear what man's eyes got softer when he took in the bandage, covering all right part of Fillip's face. But softness disappeared as soon as it showed up.
"You can handle it. Just grab whatever you have here and head out. I put on the map where you should go, new client will be waiting for you there." Viago handed him a rolled paper. "You'll need to be his bodyguard. I hope, this task you can handle."
Fillip nodded, but didn't get up yet. Viago didn't say anything about timings. Which could mean, what Fil will be away for Maker knows how long.
"What about our siblings? Can I say goodbye?" He asked, looking at brother with plea in his eye. Man took a deep breath and looked away.
"No," he said sternly. "Just go away as soon as possible. Write them when you get out of Treviso... And don't you dare mention anything about your failure."
Fillip felt how his heart broke and sharp pieces stung his chest, making it hard to breathe. He can't even warn little ones... What if they be worried? He hate making them worried. But...
But he swallowed any tears what tried to raise in him. He grabbed everything he needed for the first few days and went out of the room, not saying goodbye to Viago. If he couldn't say farewell to his siblings, what should include his older brother too, right?

OC Vibes
Rules: Go to Pinterest, search "your OC's name + core", post six pictures. Then tag six people.
Thank you @pandorazlost fo tagging me! I tag... Whoever didn't do this funny thing
ESHA MERCAR

Who knew that's how I find the artist Esha Tewari (+ I should add what sentences suit more Esha's ex crash, than her new relationships)
FILLIP DE RIVA

I love how Pinterest gave me Fil's "but"s. He's a romantic, but he's alone. He's mourn so many things from his past, but he knows they gave him what he has now. He's a kind and caring person, but he's also a dangerous predator.
HOL INGELLVAR

I think here's mostly her path of life. She was lonely girl, surrounded by shadows and spirits. For now, she's building herself a new path. She doesn't know where it leads, but it's exciting and she's happy. As for her future... It's bright.

You never failed to make me emotional

Not Before Me - RRAU
Here's somewhat angst! sorry guys I got to thinking and then I started cooking and I whipped this up.
CW: Implications of attempted suicide
Ages and Rooks
Aria - age 23
Fillip, @i-creatied-au - age 24

9:47 Dragon, 4 years after Aria’s torture.
There were many high points in any Antiva City. a tower in Salle was Aria’s favorite. It had been her spot to run away when she needed to be alone and her room didn’t cut it and now she stood near the edge looking out at the city, seeing the de Riva estate from where she stood. Wind whipped past her, taking strands of her dark hair as her eyes looked out on the city with the sun slowly setting in the horizon. All she had to do was step off, let gravity take her down. It could be seen as an accident, a bottle of wine sat away from her. The story could go, she was drunk unaware how close she was to the edge before she slipped.
The city before her had been her home, or what could be close to a home. After her return from Tevinter though, everything felt wrong. Every way she acted was a face, everything she felt was fake, she was broken deep down with no way to be fixed and she was a failure. Spending four years indulging in getting wasted and company of others only made the voices disappear for a while, only letting the thoughts at bay for a moment until she was alone again or asleep reliving the nightmare that never left. She closed her eyes, letting the city disappear and feeling the wind. With a deep breath she prepared to take a step.
“Lovely view, don't you think dear sister?” her eyes flew open as her body tensed from the sound of the familiar voice of Fillip. She turned to look at him, removing any shock from her face as she did so. “I see why you come up here.” he let out a low whistle as his eyes looked out at the city.
“Yes, it is very remarkable. Especially when the sun begins to set.” she turned away from him, looking out to the sun as it was halfway down almost being fully gone. How did Fillip find her? And how much did he know? There was no telling, she kept herself calm and wiped any trace of her ideas, her thoughts away.
“Yes it is. You seem awfully close there. May want to take a step back. Wouldn’t want you to fall.”
Aria looked down at her feet, she was right by the edge just as she planned but now Fillip was there. Slowly she took a couple steps back letting out an awkward laugh “It appears I wasn’t paying attention. I get lost in the view sometimes.” she turned around to face him, a smile on her face as she spoke. Fillip’s own face held a very small smile but his eyes were not smiling, there was a deep sadness in them along with a determination.
“It appears so.” he walked over and stood by her, his gaze stuck on the view before them. “Though you were never one to not pay attention.”
“We all have our moments, Ermano.” her eyes stayed glued on him, needing to know how much he knew. What would he say? Why was he here? Fillip managed to find ways to Aria even as the years she closed herself from everyone focusing on work and nothing more. He would be there, ready to pop a joke or to try to convince her to relax. When Alecto was home she would do the same, but with the strained relationship between the mage and Viago she was rarely home for long.
“Not you.” he said, his tone dropping the playfulness as his smile dropped along with it. “What’s going on with you?” he turned to look at her “You are not alone whatever it is.”
Aria stared at him, unsure of what to tell him or how to tell him. There was once no secrets between her and her siblings much less Fillip. Coren and Heloise were nicknamed the twins and in a way Fillip was her twin. Now though, there was a distance one that Aria had made and continued to keep. “I do not know what you mean. I’ve just been focused and busy.”
Fillip let out a small huff in response as he crossed his arms “whatever it is, there is something better than dying about it.”
A silence stretched between them, as the two crows looked at each other. Fillip’s expression softened “Aria…” his voice was soft as he spoke.
“No. don’t give me any pity speech you have.” she turned away from him and walked away from the ledge creating space between them. She felt his hands grab her shoulder and turn her to face him.
“Aria no. I am not letting you run from this. Not completely. I won’t ask, I won’t pressure but there is no way in hell I will let you die before me. This is a promise I intend to keep.”
“There’s no point in saying such things.” she said, brushing her brother off. “I am fine. I just needed to have my head clear.”
His expression didn’t change, not buying her words but even so he did as he said and dropped it. “Well… I just got back into town, it would be nice to catch a drink with my dear sister.”
She looked off to the horizon. All that was left of the sun was the very tip of it still peeking out but even then, it was slowly retreating, disappearing until it would rise again and it would rise again. It seems she will be there to see it. “Yea… a drink sounds nice.”

Okay, but Varric/Hawke is "All I want" by Kodaline
Varric, when Hawke leave Kirkwall + all years without them:
All I want is nothing more
To hear you knocking at my door
'Cause if I could see your face once more
I could die as a happy man I'm sure
And Varric, when Hawke went to the Fade:
When you said your last goodbye
I died a little bit inside
I lay in tears in bed all night
Alone without you by my side
But if you loved me
Why did you leave me
It's fitting them, right???

Dear Holisill (part 1)
Description: Hol is recieving a letter from her father, about existence of who she learnt only after opening the letter. Unsure what to do, she asks for an advice from her found family.
Reto belongs to @tiravi , Ambrose belongs to @knowlsey and Osla belong to @moonbunecho
It was a quiet morning at the Greenhouse. Too quiet. Partly because it's occupant wasn't working between plants, but sat in her small room. Her shoulders were tense and pointy ears hang down. The cause of her conflicted expression layed in front of her. Small letter, few sentences and she can't work properly. How annoying.
Herbalist was so deep in her thoughts, what didn't hear a knock and how door opened.
"Hey, Hol, we wanted to show Ambrose some cafe back home and..." elf paused, looking at his girlfriend with a frown, "Are you okay?" Hol quickly put away letter and turned to Reto.
"Yes, of course. Just was... Thinking."
"Yeah? You must be thinking about something important. Your face looks like that, only when you are trying to make hard decision." Herbalist sighed and started playing with her rings nervously. It was almost annoying how well other Watcher knew her... But also endearing. After few moments in silence, she finally spoke.
"I got a letter... And I don't like what inside. And I don't know what to do with the information."
"Is someone threatening you?" Reto frowned, coming closer to her desk, but elf quickly shook her head, making jewelries ring.
"No, no, nothing like that. It's more like... An invitation."
"From who?" Hol fell quiet again, looking at the letter with troubled expression.
"My father."
"I... I didn't know you have one."
"Neither did I."
Hol looked up at her boyfriend. Elf kneeled down, taking her hands in his. Familiar roughness of his skin and warmth calmed down herbalist and she gave him a smile.
"It's fine. I'm just... Surprised." Warrior smiled softly and raised her hand, kissing knuckles. He did it so many times, but Hol couldn't get used to it. She blushed and quickly looked away. "You... You said something about a date with Ambrose. I don't mind going on a walk. Don't want to think about this letter."
Reto smirked, but nodded, getting up and pulling girlfriend up too.
--
Date was going great. Hol was eating sweet pie and listening how Osla and Ambrose practice Orlesian. Maybe she didn't know much of it, but their voices helped her distract brain from thoughts about the letter. It was just her, tasty pie, her friends and nothing else...
"Hol found her dad." Or so she thought.
"Reto!" Elf looked at her boyfriend with a frown.
"You would ask for their advice after some time," he just shrugged his shoulders. "I'm just pushed things a little bit."
"Is it true?" Ambrose smiled and took her hand. "Hol, that's amazing!"
"We don't know that yet..." herbalist sighed, but squeezed their hand back. "Plus, I didn't find him. He found me, somehow. So it might as well be a trap."
"Or your father is alive and wants to reconnect." Osla hummed, taking a sip from her cup. Other Watcher frowned more and looked at her cup with coffee.
"I'm not sure which one is better."
"What do you mean?"
"He wasn't around my whole life. But suddenly he's all interested in me and wants to reconnect? Sounds like bullshit. Or a trap." Watchers and Shadow Dragon exchanged looks. Hol sighed and raised gaze at them. "Listen. It's fine. I managed without him all these years. And I don't need him now. Besides... I have you, guys."
They all smiled to her and Reto let out "awww" teasingly. She felt how cheeks warm up again. "Quit it, big softies."
"How can I? You're rarely this affectionate." Reto smirked, making Hol grumble and hit his shoulder lightly.
"You know..." Ambrose started, getting attention from the group. "It won't hurt to check. Maybe... Maybe you two will get along and your family gets bigger?"
Hol was silent, just looking at her friend. She still didn't know what happened to their father, but she knew Ambrose loved him. Maybe it was the reason, why they were for herbalist meeting her father.
"And if it's a trap?" She asked quietly.
"Then we'll have your back." Osla said with a smile. Elf couldn't help but chuckled from idea, coming to her mind.
"So what, you all going to hide in the bushes?"
"Yes, and we'll attack if he'll try something funny." Other elf answered with a smile on her face. Hol felt how lips are forming in a smile. Creators, these idiots...
"If you insist... I'll write him back and arrange the meeting."

based of @larknnightingale post
Would people love your OC:
Fillip de Riva:

here's your answer: yes, they would. i know you find it hard to believe, but trust me this time. i'm sorry if something or someone in your life made you believe that you're unloveable; god, you're so far from that. despite everything, your heart is tender- a little scarred, yeah, but ready to be stitched up with some care and affection. please remember that your past mistakes don't define you, and nothing, nothing will ever make you unworthy of being loved. you remind me so much of a puppy, a little clumsy and a little uncoordinated, but so precious and tiny. or perhaps- a walnut? hard on the outside, soft on the inside. anyone would be lucky to be with you.
here's your answer: yes, they would. falling in love with you feels like falling for your childhood best friend. it's warm, cozy, just feels so natural. it feels right. you're someone who knows how to make people feel comfortable around you; soft spoken, sweet, gentle, such a caring soul. it's hard not to like you. even though i don't really know you, somehow i feel like i have a weak spot for you already; you remind me so much of one of those plaid blankets, the ones you would wrap around your shoulders on a rainy day, and of the tepid sunlight that creeps through the curtains in the early morning. will you be mine?
Esha Mercar:

Hol Ingellvar:

here's your answer: yes, they would. what i want you to understand is that sometimes people love us in a quiet, reserved way. little things, little gestures that we don't pay much attention to- those are gestures of love, too. you're like the bright, bright moon in the midnight sky. people admire you from afar, a little starstruck because you're just so gorgeous. please, don't settle for anything less than the best for you; you really deserve it. with you, i associate endless nights spent listening to the rain, and the softest of blue silks. you're such a dream, i can't believe you're real.
Well, on my opinion, all of these are true! Especially, Fillip. When I think about him, I often imagine a soft blanket too :>

Every 21st century piece of writing advice: Make us CARE about the character from page 1! Make us empathize with them! Make them interesting and different but still relatable and likable!
Every piece of classic literature: Hi. It's me. The bland everyman whose only purpose is to tell you this story. I have no actual personality. Here's the story of the time I encountered the worst people I ever met in my life. But first, ten pages of description about the place in which I met them.

Poor Aria :( but, honestly it's sweet and cute work
The de Rivas pt. 1 the first three - RRAU
I still have to add to the Minrathous chase and I will! Been cooking smth in my brain for it! While we wait here's a bit of the The de Riva siblings™️
Aria meeting Alecto ( @alystrin03) and Fillip ( @i-creatied-au)
Ages for Time keeping purposes
Alecto - 11 years old
Fillip - 9 years old
Aria - 8 years old
Word count: 693

The travel to Salle was long, for eight year old Ash'anne Aria Arainai-Lavellan it felt much longer. The days after her parents murder and Viago finding her in her wardrobe felt blurred together, almost like a dream. When they finally approached the de Riva estate, Aria was asleep. Her head lay on Viago's lap as he absentmindedly played with her long wavy black hair. When they drew near, Viago woke her. “When we get to the estate.” He started, his eyes looking out of the carriages window instead at the young elven girl that looked too much like the bodies he saw a month prior. The bodies of his mentor, the closest thing to a father, and his wife. “I shall introduce you to two other of my charges… You will no longer be” he paused. Aria's mismatched eyes bore into him, a wide eyed gaze that had shed many tears in the last month but had stopped in the last week. “You will no longer be Ash'anne Aria Arainai-Lavellan… you will be Aria de Riva. Do you understand?” Finally he tore his gaze from the window to look at the young elven girl, she was so small and fragile and now she was alone with only Viago left.
Aria didn't speak, she just nodded her head in response before folding her hands in her lap, her fingers fidgeting with her mother's wedding band. A dalish betrothal ring engraved with both Vesa's and Enzo's initials on the inside. It was one of the things Viago took from the elves’ apartment, having slipped it off Vesa’ cold finger. Sentiment value wasn't something he was particularly good at, but it was something he believed she may have wanted and he was right. The young girl hadn't stopped messing with it or let it go since he gave it to her. He looked away from her, his eyes focusing back on the window as they made the final small stretch to the estate.
Once they were in the estate, Viago had Aria stand in the living room. She found it hard to keep from staring in awe of how large the estate was compared to her once small apartment within the Antiva City Alienage. She stared up at the high ceiling, her hand clenching around her mamae's ring until the doors opened up then she tore her gaze to them. Two children were led in by Servants who hung around, their eyes kept low to the ground. Aria nervously fidgeted with the ring as she stared at two human children.
Interactions with humans were few and far in-between and rarely were they pleasant, Viago was the only Human Aria felt safe around the only one who didn't sneer or insult her family. The only one who didn't appear to hold the same aggression she had seen from others. Just as she was taught, Aria put her gaze down, keeping from looking at them instead at their feet.
“Aria, you can look up.” Viago said, his voice cool showing no emotion. A pattern Aria had come to notice in recent times. She did as he said and lifted her gaze finally meeting the two other pairs of young eyes. A girl and a boy stared back at her. The girl was slightly taller than the boy, her dark hair long and pulled into a braid. The boy had light hair and was kept short. Both held a curiosity toward her. “Alecto, Fillip this is Aria she will be starting her training under me.”
The girl, Alecto, slowly smiled at her before walking to Aria. “It's nice to meet you!” She held her hand out but Aria just stared at it before looking up to Viago. All he did was nod slightly urging her. Before she could take her hand, Alecto grabbed hers and pulled her along and out of the room, Fillip following close behind them.
Before long, Aria was running down the halls with Alecto as they ran from Fillip who held a frog in his hands, but it didn't last as long because training took over. Training to become an antivan crow, just like her papa.

Two Dragons and a Crow Merchant
While Esha and Nels ( @madrabbit014 ) are looking for their siblings and friends, they met a new friend.
"I can't believe it, he disobeyed me," Esha grumbled, walking with Nels through Minrathous market. Thanks to them, she found out what Isiah left to find Dáire, after she clerly told him not to do it. And it didn't make oldest Mercar happy. "I would've be proud, if it wasn't a life or death situation."
"He's not 5 anymore, dear sister. He has his own head on shoulders and he doesn't have to follow your every word." elf reminded her with a smile, before bending down to give few coins to beggar. Quinari frowned from their words and crossed her arms. Nels was right, of course. But it didn't mean she was agree or what she didn't worry.
"I just don't want him to get hurt."
"Neither do I, but he's grown up. And he can take care of himself."
"Even with venatori after every corner?" Esha whispered angrily, in case someone listened to them. Nels sighed, but decided not to press on their sister. For now.
As siblings walked past hovels, they saw a man with a large box, surrounded by kids. He was smiling and spoke gently with a roudy group.
"I brought enough food for everyone, don't worry. Here, take some. You can bring second portion for ones who can't move."
Esha noticed a scars on right side of his face, and remembered the man, who was helping Shadows for days already.
"Fillip?" man looked up and his eyebrows raised.
"Oh, Advisor Esha. And it's you siblings, I suppose?" Nels gave their sister questioning look, and she nodded.
"Yes, this's Nels. Nels, this is Fillip de Riva."
"A Crow? Helping in Minrathous?" Nels asked, suspicion creeping in their voice but Fillip didn't react on it, continuing to smile.
"I'm not really a Crow for few years now. I got... A permanent vacation." Shadow Dragon wanted to ask more, but man interrupted them. "And now I'm helping here. Luckily, I have enough money and opportunities to supply injured and people who lost their homes."
"Fillip was a big of help these days," Esha nodded and looked at her sibling. "Protected the civilians and brought many food and other things for them." man shook his head with a flattered smile.
"Your sister gives me too much credit. Just helping a little here and there."
"I see..." Nels said, still looking at man carefully, studying him. His composure was friendly and open, so Nels gave up, deciding to dig something on Fillip later. "Well then, thank you for helping Shadows. I'm sure everyone appreciates it."
"Well, not everyone... But that doesn't matter now. What are you doing here?" He looked at quinari with worry. "I thought all Shadows decided to lay low for now."
"Almost everyone... Remember I said to watch a little after an elf?"
"Dáire?" Esha nodded and ignored another surprised look from her sibling.
"Yeah. Have you seen him?"
"Kind of? When I was giving supplies to Shadows, he walked past me. More likely walked to another resurch mission. Kid has such angry eyes..." Esha sighed and followed the man, who waved kids and walked with two Mercars.
"Can't blame him. We lost so many to venatori and now they just walking on the streets and hurting people without restraint like they are the rulers." she squeezed her fists. Nels' hand, what layed on her shoulder, calmed her down and shelooked at them with gratitude. Falling into rage wouldn't help their situation now. Maybe made it worse.
"We'll make sure it's not for long." Nels assured her and she smiled softly, really wanting to believe in their words. They look at the dark haired Crow again. "Thanks for the lead, Fillip."
"It's nothing, really. Maybe, I should have stopped him..."
"No, no, that would made things worse," Esha quickly shook her head. "Thank you for letting us know... And everything."
"Any time, Advisor." He smiled and bow his head, starting to go in different direction, when Nels stopped him.
"Say, Fillip... Do you have younger siblings?" man turned, looking confused by the question but nodded.
"Well, I have some people, who I can call that word."
"And how did you handle them growing up?" quinari send her sibling annoyed look, but they kept a smile, looking straight at a Crow. Fillip scratched his short beard, thinking.
"Interesting... It seems some siblings able to let little birds fly out of the nest," Esha muttered something under her breath, and Nels patted her back. "You'll learn. Thanks for answering, Fillip! We'll see you around."
"I still worried about them, I suppose? But after seeing what they can kill a man, I got much calmer." he chuckled, looking a little nostalgic. "I know they can protect themselves and others, and they have good hearts to lead them." quinari smiled thinking about her own siblings. They all were amazing and strong people. But she never could throw away the feeling what she has to protect them. Thinking this way for years, she might forgot what little ones all grown up.
"Good luck with your sibling." Man smiled, before going away.
"And yours, apparently..." Esha huffed, following Nels to the Dock Town.
