Chapter 1
It was Friday evening when you got that text message from your best friend.
“I’m there in ten! Please wear the new dress we bought last week because I can’t be the only hot chick...”
What? You’re finally sitting on your couch after having a hard day with moving in. Your parents helped you as much as they could but the whole moving in and out thing stressed you a lot. They just left your new student apartment and you planned to spend the evening in front of the television with Grey’s Anatomy and popcorn. But your best friend was about to ruin your plans. What is she even talking about? You didn’t make any plans with her tonight. And you’re definitely not in the mood to wear that hot dress. You tried to call your bestie Dina but she’s not answering and a few minutes later, there was a knocking on your apartment door.
“Hey, it’s me! Come on open the door y/n, we’re already late!”
You stepped to the door and there was Dina, she wore her black short dress and silver high heels.
“Oh my god! Why do you look like this??”
She said while entering your apartment.
“Didn’t you get my message? Please don’t tell me you forgot about tonight…”
Dina stood in the middle of your living room and looked at you reproachfully.
“Uhm, actually I don’t know what you’re talking about… I’m sorry?”
“No that’s a joke now, right?”
She lifted her eyebrows.
“Do I look like I’m joking Dina?”
You pointed to the television which shows the Grey’s Anatomy screen.
“Okay fine, here’s a little reminder: today’s the newbie party in the sports hall and last week we decided to spend our night there so I’m not angry that you’re a little granny but just if you get dressed very fast.”
Oh gosh. Please not. The newbie party. Dina’s right.
You two decided last week to have the best first party night as students this Friday but you’re totally not into partying. Actually, she decided for you two, it would be the best start. And that would be the perfect time to make new friends and so on.
“Here’s the hot dress. You should wear black heels and I do your make-up quickly. Please don’t look at me like that! You promised! It’s going to be fun, trust me.”
She made a sad face and you didn’t want to disappoint her. You promised.
You grabbed the dress and changed your chill outfit into a hot but very uncomfortable dress. Dina did your make-up in your bathroom and after 15 minutes, you two were ready to leave the dormitory.
The campus was so overloaded. Hundreds of new students were drinking and screaming loud songs, which was tiring for you. Dina took your hand and went straight to the hall.
“And here we are! Isn’t it cool? Let the night begin!”
You two entered the hall and you wondered when you saw so many people at one spot the last time.
“We need a drink. Come with me to the bar.”
She pointed to the other side of the hall and pulled you with her. You both squeezed through the crowd and it was difficult for you not to lose her hand. Finally, you arrived at the bar, Dina and you ordered cocktails.
“For me a tequila sunrise and for my best friend here a strawberry mojito please!”
She turned around to you with a big smile on her face.
“Look y/n, this is the beginning of a whole new chapter in our lives. We both are students now and you know what that means?”
“I’m studying psychology and you’re studying journalism?”
It was so loud, you almost shouted.
“No! I mean yes, you’re right. But not just only studying is the new chapter. Enjoying life, meeting new people, and especially new boys. I’ve already seen some cuties over there.”
Dina giggled and her glimpse went to the right side nearby the dance floor.
“Oh my gosh, Dina. It’s always the same with you!”
You rolled your eyes and you both laughed.
“Ladies, your cocktails! Enjoy the party.” The barkeeper handed out our drinks and winked at Dina.
“Thank you!”
You turned yourselves to look back again at the dance floor.
“He flirted with you, I can’t believe it… we’re five minutes here and your project boys have already started!”
You shook your head but smiled.
“Uhm, I don’t know what you mean… anyways, I’m happy to be here with you as my best friend. We’re going to have an incredible time. Cheers y/n!”
Your glasses bumped together but the click sound wasn’t hearable.
“I’m happy, too. Even if my television plan was also really attractive to me. I love you!”
You took a big sip and tasted the alcohol.
You drank the drinks very quickly and Dina pulled you to the dance floor. At first, you were really shy but when you disappeared into the crowd and the right music played, you were able to let yourself go. You jumped and screamed, everyone was on fire. It was crazy to forget the past, the present, and especially the future for one moment.
You danced for a few hours and ate some of the snacks when you realized you were done with partying. Your legs hurt and your head was still ringing inside because of the loud music. You gave Dina a sign that she should follow you outside, so you two could talk better.
“I think I’m done for today Dina. Party time is over for me, now I’m going back to my granny lifestyle.”
You laughed.
“Okay, whatever you want. It was so much fun! Please text me when you’re at home.”
Dina hugged me.
“Wait, you’re not coming home with me?”
“No y/n! I’m having the time of my life right now and I’m not tired. Honestly, that sweet barkeeper should get another chance to wink at me again…”
She gave you a little kiss on your cheek.
“I’ll call you tomorrow. I love you!”
And with that, she disappeared back again to the hall.
The night was beautiful and not that cold so you decided walking a few meters on the campus would be a good idea. It was nearly empty, everyone was inside the hall where the party was. In the middle of the campus, there was a big fountain and you could hear the water splashing. You were sitting on the fountain edge when suddenly a voice interrupted your thoughts.
“So, the party is over for you, too?”
You flinched. What the hell?!
“I’m sorry, I didn’t want to scare you.”
You turned your head to the left side and a girl was sitting about two meters away. She had her hair in a bun and wore a short-sleeved shirt, simple jeans, and sneakers.
“Uhm, yeah. I just wanted to get some fresh air on the way home, what about you?”
“I was at the party for my friend because he literally forced me to go with him but turns out, he found a new love interest so it was my time to go. Finally.” She sighed.
“Oh okay, I understand. Parties can be a burden. My best friend was the reason why I was inside that hall.”
“It's great to meet a fellow sufferer…”
You both laughed. You took off your heels and stretched out your feet. This was a big relief. The other girl was looking into the sky.
“You’re also a new student on the campus?”
You looked right into her face.
“Yeah, I’m studying astronomy. So I can understand these things a little bit better.”
She pointed to the sky.
“Oh. That is really cool!”
You also looked into the sky now.
“And what about you?”
“I’m studying psychology.”
“That is really cool, too. Maybe we will see each other on the campus.”
She smiled a little bit.
“I bet. I’m living in this dormitory right there, so probably I will spend a lot of time here outside.”
“Maybe we can have lunch together one time… Oh my god, this is really a milestone for me to say things like that. I’m not a very outgoing person, to be honest.”
She scratched her neck.
“Oh, don’t worry. I feel you. But yes, lunch sounds good.”
You smiled at her and she did, too. You two sat there for the next couple of minutes, just enjoying the silence of the night.
“I think, I’m about to go now. I need tons of sleep but it was very nice to meet you. I’m looking forward to seeing you again.”
You stood up and you picked up your shoes.
“It was nice to meet you, too. I keep my eyes open… Get home safely.”
“I will. Good night.”
You walked a few steps when you realized that you did not even know her name. So you turned around.
“I’m sorry, I didn't ask you for your name.”
“I’m Ellie.”
Oh. What a pretty name.
“I’m y/n.”
And with that, you walked back home.
