Prompt: âItâs taking everything in me not to slap you in the face right now.â
Pairing: Rooster x OC
 ---x---
Itâs been years. He can hardly believe his eyes. Addison Brewer, in the flesh. The girl who broke his heart. Who even does that to an orphan? Cold as ice, like her fucking callsign. Â
But nonetheless, still hot as hell. He gulps because he canât help it when he sees her.
He turns back to Penny, pushes up his shades, and orders another round. He was prepared for this. Â Heâd heard from Maverick that Addison was up in the air again. Not that he was asking. But Pete had some sort of sick twisted idea that heâd cared about the girl who ripped his heart out and shot it out of the sky.
âUn-fucking-believable.â
âWhat was that, Bradshaw?â Penny asks, handing him the beers.
âNothing,â he sighs.
Walking back to the others, Phoenix corners him. âI saw. Are you going to be okay?â She had the unfortunate luck in having to see his mopey ass after that breakup. It wasnât pretty and it wasnât quick either.
âHow do you want to play this?â she asks.
âLike always,â handing her a beer, he picks up a pool cue and tells Bob to rack âem up.
 ---
As Addison walks over, sheâs not sure what sheâs going to say. She knew most of these pilots from around the traps, but they werenât her squad. She felt slightly uncomfortable. But she knew that this was more to do with seeing her ex, than being the introvert that she was.
She knew Hangman though, and boy was she glad when he came up placing his free arm around her shoulder. Â Well, well , well, if it isnât Little Miss Addison.â
She rolled her eyes at him and gives him a light punch to his side. âHangman, can we drop the Little Miss now. Itâs been 5 years.â
âSorry, Brewer. Habit,â he shrugs.
âSo are you ready?â He asks looking down at her. She raises her eyebrows in question, âFirst time engaging with enemy fire or as we like to call him, your ex, Rooster?â he explains as if it was the most obvious thing on Earth.
Goddamn, did everyone know?
âItâll be fine. Weâre all adults here.â She calmly explained.
âWell, some of us are. Some of us break little poultry hearts the night before a huge mission.â
âShut the fuck up, Hangman. That was a long time ago.â
âHey, donât get all agro at me, Iâm just preparing you for what may come.â And if Addison wasnât nervous before, she sure was now. Of course these guys hated her. Sheâd done Bradshaw wrong. And she deserved what would come tonight.
âHeartbreaker is here!â Hangman called out and she grimaced.
Please God, do not let that name stick.
Her eyes naturally darted over to Bradshaw. Of course, she had noticed him the moment she walked in. How could she not? He was lining up a shot, so she didnât expect him to look up.
But he did.
She couldnât read him at all. Itâs funny how things can change so much.Â
âHangman, let me be clear here,â clearing her throat, Addison spoke up, for everyone to hear. Â âItâs taking everything in me not to slap you in the face right now.â
The laughter was immediate and loud.
âAnd sheâs back,â Hangman sighs, handing her his drink and walking back to the bar to grab another one.
Out of the corner of her eye, she sees a small smirk form on Roosterâs face and for a second, she thinks that this might not be the full on clusterfuck she was expecting.

A/N: I thought about maybe planning out these ficlets a little more, but Iâm just not organised enough. Maybe at the end Iâll put them in some sort of order *shrugs*

Prompt: iâll change your life, if you let me.
Pairing: Rooster x OCÂ
---x---
Hypnotized by the waves, Addison doesnât understand how anyone could ever want to live away from the water.
The sun on your face, the cool wind through the airâŠ.It felt cleansing.  The perfect place to start over.
Sheâd been here for over a year, thinking that this was it. The longest place sheâd lived in after her military service ended. Well, ending was debatable since she hadnât been discharged and hadnât requested it either. Â But, she was done running or so sheâd thought.
And as much as she loved this place. She was ready to go.
It wasnât as if she was running (except that it was), but she just had to get away from here. From him. And from that military life once again.
This giant pain in the ass, who had serenaded her and convinced her it was okay to let someone in again. âIâll change your life, you know?â he had said that night on the beach watching the stars. As much as she didnât want to fall for it, she did.
And now, he was just going to leave, like everyone else. Â
It wasnât his fault though. He was a pilot. He never hid that from her. She knew it the minute he walked into the bar. Shades onâŠand that strut. Sheâd been around enough pilots to figure that out. Hell, a few years ago, that would be her walking through the bar like that with aviators on.
But Top Gun? It should have comforted her, knowing he was the best of the best. But how do you gain comfort when his job is to fly the most dangerous of dangerous missions? When, at any moment, the call could come and it could be his last.
And she had tried to keep him at a distance from the beginning. But goddamn, he was just so, so good lookingâŠand sweet, and kind, and funny, as sheâd come to learn.
He didnât know all of her back story. He wanted to though. He wanted to know everything about her. But she couldnât tell him everything. Not so soon after-
And so it was time. Time to let him go. Let this place go. Heâd be on a plane out of here tomorrow and sheâd be on the road, the very next day.
But not before telling him that this was it. And she knew it was cruel to do it right before he left. But itâs be crueller to not tell him at all.
She felt strong arms wrap around her. She hadnât heard him walk up and plop himself down in the sand behind her, his knees enclosing her like a protective cage.
He placed a soft kiss on her cheek. âHey.â
Involuntarily, her body moved into his. She wanted to remember this moment, this feeling. Â God, she loved him. And that was danger zone territory. Â âHey,â she drawled out.
âWhat are you thinking about?â He asked.
It was now or never. âI need to tell you something.â God, this was going to kill her
âOkay, sounds seriousâŠ? Everything okay?â
She breathed in and started. âIâm leaving.â
âOkay, and where are you leaving to?â He asked. She could see the grin plastered on his face, without needing to turn back and look. He thought she was kidding. Â She slowly got up and he followed suit. His grin fading.
âI donât want to do this anymore.â She said it with resolve. If he had to believe it, then sheâd have to as well.
âDo what?â but he knew the answer.
âYou and me. Whatever weâre doing. I donât want it anymore.â He scoffed and she could feel it coming. Bracing herself like she would before a 6G manoeuvre, she looked him in the eye.
âLike itâs so easy to just turn it off? Wow. You really are your callsign.â She winced. Her wingman, Rain, gave her that callsign and it didnât mean that. But he was gone and she didnât fly anymore, so I guess it didnât really matter anyway.
âIâm sorry-â Rooster started to apologise, but she put up her hand.
âNo, youâre right. But, it is what it is, okay. We had some fun and now Iâm punching out.â
His tone softens. âIs this about tomorrow?â Â
Damn. He always knew. âLook, nothingâs going to happen to me out there. Iâll be back before you know it.â He leans forward trying to reach for her.
But she knew better. Â âNo.â
Hard. And final.Â
The way it needs to be.Â
She starts to leave and walk past him. Heâs quick though, what with all those years of playing with the squad on the beach. His hand darts out and catches hers easily.
âIâll change your life, if you let me,â he pleads. She knows itâs a promise from him. That same promise from a year ago. Rooster never says anything he doesnât mean. Thatâs just the way he is.
He loves her. She knows it.
And she loves him. He knows it.
But itâs not enough. Â
âIâm sorry, Bradshaw,â the last words from her mouth as she walks past him.

Prompt: âIf you die on me after everything i've done for you... i'll never forgive you.â
Pairing: Rooster x OCÂ
---x---
âIf you die on me, after everything Iâve done for youâŠI'll never forgive you,â Addison grunts out, in between heavy breaths. Sheâs climbing her way to the last known location of Rooster, desperate to get there before anything else can go wrong in this godforsaken mission.
As she reaches the summit, sheâs stopped in her tracks by the carnage in front of her.
Roosterâs plane is split in two, with slightly more damage than her own. A quick assessment later, thereâs no sign of him anywhere. She takes a minute and leans up against a tree, groaning because her ribs hurt like a mother-.
âWell, thank fuck for the ejector seat,â a familiar voice comes from behind her.
She rounds on him, catching his grin.
âThank fuck for the ejector seatâŠ.Thank fuck for the ejector seat? Are you fucking insane or just concussed?â she asks as she forgets the pain in her chest and runs up to Rooster with a tight hug.
He pulls back quickly, not letting go of her arms, apparently assessing her for any damage.
âIâm fine,â she says exasperatedly as she waves him off. He gives her a look that says he doesnât quite believe her. But Addison knows thereâs really no time left. Theyâve got to be miles from the extraction point.
âWeâve got to go. Like, now.â Snapping back to reality, he nods. He doesnât let go of her though. His hand slides up to her cheek. He leans down and kisses her. Â Itâs familiar and welcomed, calming her in seconds.
Either of them could have died today.
But they didnât and they were both still here.
---x---
Just saw Top Gun: Maverick and slightly obsessed with Rooster...arenât we all?
These are just random words/stories with Rooster and an OC (Addison Brewer) based on some old Prompt Lists I have.

NowâŠ
Sheâs breathing heavily. Not really knowing why sheâs running.
â
12 months earlierâŠ
âCaroline,â he whines. âCome on, please just put in a good word for me.â
She can see the twinkle in his eyes and she canât help but think heâs such a dork.
âI donât even know her.â
âYes, but you can get to know her,â he protests.
âSo can you!â she chuckles. Seeing his look of desperation, she gives in. âFine. But just so you know, you owe me.â
â
8 months earlier
Sheâs got a crush. Itâs causing butterflies to permanently reside in her tummy every time she walks down the halls.
âStefan!â she calls out. Heâs down the hall kissing Elena goodbye and she fights a grimace. Their PDA has become intolerable 6 weeks into their relationship.
âHey Caroline, whatâs up?â he puts an arm around her shoulder and walks her to History.
âRemember that time I singlehandedly got Elena and you together?â Sheâs exaggerating and heâs laughing.
âI faintly recall you having a small role to play in that.â
âWhatever, Salvatore,â rolling her eyes, she continues. âI need to call in that favour.â
âOkay,â heâs confused but he listens to what she has to say.
â
6 months earlierâŠ
Itâs Tyler and he still canât wrap his head around it. Caroline and Tyler. Tyler and Caroline. Nope. Still weird. Heâs happy enough that Caroline is happy, but doesnât mean itâs not weird seeing her with someone. He puts it down to being an overprotective friend.
â
4 months earlier
Elena fell for his brother and somewhere down the line heâs fallen for Caroline. He thinks heâs always loved her but now he doesnât know how to act around her. When Tyler breaks it off with her, he sucks it up and acts like her best friend again, because that's what she deserves . They slowly heal together and things are good.
â
2 weeks earlier
Things arenât good. Heâs floored her. One minute theyâre talking about the good old days and the next-
âI love you Caroline and Iâm in love with you.â
âIâŠuh-â she stutters. Sheâs taken aback and who could blame her? âYou canât be.â And sheâs so sure of it.
â
NowâŠ
âWhat the hell, Caroline? Why are you running?â heâs breathing heavily after chasing her through the woods. He thinks its absurd. Sheâs been avoiding him for two weeks now and itâs driving him insane.
âSeriously, what do you think running away is going to achieve here?â he sounds exasperated.
âI thought we could go back to whatever the hell we were!â she yells out as she comes out from behind a tree looking slightly embarrassed.
He laughs. Itâs all he can do. The laughter dies down, when he catches a glimpse of her less than impressed face.
âWe canât,â he says confidently as he walks up to her, arms going around her waist.
He waits for her to kiss him and when she does, he knows it was always meant to be her.

Sheâs not sure why sheâs here. I mean, itâs not like he asked her to be. And sheâs well aware that thereâs a million other places that she could be.
But here she is. Because heâs dying and she canât let it happen again. She takes a deep breath and rings the doorbell to the Salvatore mansion.
Damon opens the door and she tries not to roll her eyes. Of course he came back, which means Elena probably did too.
Thereâs no love lost here as she tersely asks where Stefan is. Damon directs her upstairs to his room and as she gets there, sheâs afraid to go in. Not of what sheâll find, but of the memories, sheâs been trying so hard to forget.
She hesitates, but walks in because he deserves this much.
Heâs frail and she hates that heâs risked it all for Damon. Again.
But thatâs what he does and she isnât surprised.
He turns his head to her when she walks in. And his smile lights her up as itâs always done. But heâs weak and she hopes sheâs not too late.
She takes out the vial from her bag and tells him to drink. His look is one of pity, that he needs her to accept his fate. âIt wonât help Caroline,â he resigns.
âYou donât even know what it is.â
âI know Iâve been bitten by a werewolf and the last I heard, Klaus wanted me dead.â
âCanât blame him.â Sheâs blunt with him.
âKlaus gave me this when I met him in New Orleans, in case of an emergency.â
âThatâs yours-â
âAnd Iâm giving it to you.â She sees him groan in pain and she needs him to hurry. âJust drink it. Now.â She practically forces it down his throat.
â
Sheâs sitting cross legged on his bed when he walks out drying his hair. She wants answers and she's going to get them.
Sheâs first to break the silence. âWhat I donât get is why didnât you call me? Were you just going to die and leave me to deal with it?â
He doesnât say anything immediately, like heâs unsure that any answer would make a difference.
Finally, he starts to speak, âIâm not proud of the way I left things, Caroline. You told me not to go and I still did. Your life is better off without someone like meâ

âErrrâŠStefan, what are you doing?  Why are you behind a dumpster?â
âHiding,â he says, his breathing heavy.
âFrom what?â Bonnie takes a look around. Not spotting anything at first, she looks puzzled. Â But then she sees her.Â
âCaroline.â
âSheâŠshe looks mad. What did you do?â
âI, uhâŠvolunteered.â
âThatâs a good thing. Â Shouldnât you be helping and not hiding?â Â she kinks her eyebrow in the way that only Bonnie Bennett can. Â
âIâm doing everything wrong. Sheâs going to murder me.âÂ
Bonnie laughs. âStefan, she loves you. Sheâs not going to get rid of you. Besides, youâre too pretty to be killed.â
As she speaks, Caroline calls out to Bonnie, evidently not seeing Stefan yet. âHave you seen Stefan around? I am going to kill him.â
Bonnie gives her a nervous look and Carolineâs eyes narrow. She turns the corner and spots him.
âStefan Salvatore! What the hell are you doing? The carnival is in three days!â
Itâs only the beginning of her rant, but he canât help but smile. He rushes forward and silences her with a kiss. It wonât distract her for long, but itâs worth the extra lecture time.

Walking back to her apartment at 3am with Stefan Salvatore in tow was the last thing Caroline Forbes expected to be doing...and yet, there he is, walking silently behind her. Heâs walking much too close and she can feel him tense every time she tries opening her mouth to speak. But hell if she even knows what she's trying to say.Â
Sheâs seen him a handful of times after they all left Mystic Falls and this time is no different.Â
The town was destroyed over a decade ago and as much as it pained her to see the Forbes household go at the time, she was glad to be rid of that town and the supernatural forces that came with it. Â She was particularly glad to be rid of the Salvatore brothers (well, one Salvatore brother). Â
As they walk, thereâs this pesky crackle of energy between the two of them that just wonât go away. Â And all the while, sheâs thinking..itâs been twelve goddamn years already - how am I going to deal with an eternity of this? Every time he pops up, her whole put together world topples over.Â
Theyâre at the landing to the apartment block and she needs to get whatever she needs to say out before they go upstairs.  It must be the alcohol talking, because Caroline Forbes usually internalises that shit. Sheâs all too aware  that if she fights with him up there, then the apartment will be tarnished with memories of him and she canât have that. Â
So they have it out in the middle of the street at 3am in the morning.Â
She tells him everything sheâs been needing to say for over twelve years...maybe even more. How she would have given up everything for him. Â About how it feels to come second or third, every time, because thatâs her life and what he did to her. How sheâs lost everyone she cares about because he couldnât put anyone else above Damon Fucking Salvatore.
And then heâs shouting back at her - that he did give it all up for her. He killed his own brother for her. He watched Elena mourn Damon for years...watched her tear herself apart with grief and worst of all watched Elena hate him. Â
Elena would never forgive him and he would never forgive himself.Â
She hisses angrily when she hears Elena brought up and he knows instantly that that was the wrong thing to say, but he needs to get things off his chest as well. He just needs them both to move past this all. I mean, itâs been twelve goddamn years.
So she retorts, âWhat about Tyler or Matt?â She pauses, because, well, the last name is the hardest to get out. âOr Bonnie?â Her voice breaks.Â
âEveryone I love is gone because of him and because of you and Elena and your deluded need to save Damon Salvatore. Newsflash Stefan, he was beyond saving.â Itâs unfair of her to blame him and she half means it and she half doesn't. But itâs out there now and she canât take it back.
He remains silent and watches her. And she wants to both run and apologise to him and also to run far, far away from him.Â
After a moment, he speaks, âIâm sorry.â Â Heâs breathes out these two words and she can see the anguish in his eyes. He didnât mean for this to happen. Any of it.
Sheâs missed him. Thatâs what it comes down to. Hating him...or trying very hard to...wonât bring any of them back. Â And if she canât forgive him now, sheâll never be able to.Â

âYou were going to turn it off?! After everything weâve been through.â Sheâs livid with him.
âIn my defence, I was trying to protect you,â He knows that he is so screwed and somehow it makes everything just that much funnier. He canât hide his smile.
Sheâs trying not to get distracted by it. âAre you kidding me right now?!â
âLook nothing was going to happen. Damon said-â She cuts him off and he immediately knows heâs said the one word that has destroyed any chance of his redemption.
Sarcasm lining her every syllable, âOh, Iâm sorry . I didnât realise that Damon said itâd be okay. Remind me to go to him the next time I need some ridiculous advice.â
She scoffs. âI love you Stefan, but for someone who is so smart, you are an absolute idiot.â
Heâs sheepish when he counters her remark. âItâs not like you wouldnât have done the same for me.â

She can see heâs drunk and she hates it. Heâs dancing with Elena and she hates that more. Sheâs not prepared when she sees them kiss. So she runs, but he doesnât notice.
â
Sheâs leaned up against her front door trying to breathe. Heâs absolutely fucked everything up. Â Sheâs loved him for as long as she can remember and he went and ruined it all.Â
His palm is resting against the same door, hoping that it will magically open. Â He needs to tell her everything, but itâs Caroline. And if she doesnât want to let him in, then she wonât. Â His forehead touches the door and heâs not sure what else he can do.
âI thought we could go back to whatever the hell we were,â he sighs in frustration.
She hears him and well, she doesnât know what they were either.Â
The door lock clicks and he has just enough time to step back instead of falling through doorway. Â
âYou kissed me.â Itâs a statement loaded with silent questions. When he doesnât answer, she continues. âWhy?âÂ
âIsnât it obvious?â And he looks into her eyes and sees that no, itâs Caroline and of course sheâd be clueless to the fact that anyone could want her.
âThen you kissed Elena.â Another loaded statement.
âI thought you didnât feel the same way. I made a mistake, Caroline.â Heâs hoping theyâve been best friends long enough for her to know heâs not lying.
âWell, which is it?â she asks.
âHuh?â
âDo you want to go back to what we were before? Or do you want something else?â
He grins wide. Stepping up to her, he wraps his arms around her waist.
âWe couldnât go back, even if we tried.â
And ainât that the truth.

âUgh!â she huffs for the tenth time tonight. âI cannot believe him!â scanning the room, she still sees no sign of Tyler. I mean, she told him not to be late and here she is standing like a loser at the back of the room.
It was her best friendâs wedding and she was not on the dancefloor. How was this happening? Bonnie was going to kill her.
âI can dance with youâŠif you want?â a voice sheâd recognise anywhere, spoke from behind her. Taking a deep, calming breath, she turns to face him.
âStefan?â she asks. It is a stupid question, but she needs to stall to think of what she wants to say next.
âHi Caroline.â His head tilts almost sheepishly. He saves her from answering by extending his hand.
âSoâŠshall we?â
Caroline hesitates. She isnât prepared for this. Why didnât Bonnie warn her that he was invited. She hadnât felt this kind of betrayal since the third grade, when Elena and Bonnie didnât tell her that Beau Brady had asked Missy to go on the merry-go-round with him. Traitors. She turns to where the Bride is looking around, presumably for her. Realising that this night is bigger than her, she takes his hand.
And oh. It is warm, and gentle, and brings back so many memories. She closes her eyes and swallows down those feelings. This is a dance. Only a dance. And she will most definitely not let it affect her.
So what if she had spent the better part of twenty years getting over Stefan Salvatore. She has to remember that she has done just that. She has gotten over him. This is just a dance between old acquaintances. Anyways, she needs a partner and heâs offered. Itâs nothing more than that.
But the way he leads her to the dancefloor, his hand on the small of her back is distracting, she has to admit. Twirling her, she gets a good look at him. And damn, if she had a heartbeat, itâd be off the charts. The man always did know how to wear a suit.
Settling into a rhythm, Caroline wonders what would have happened if things went differently all those years ago.
â
âYou look well,â he says softly, breaking the silence. She doesnât know how to respond. And well, isnât that funny. She never expected there to come a day when talking to him would feel awkward.
âThanks. You too.â She wants to run away. As fast as she can. But she also wants to never let him go. Sheâs afraid of her eyes giving it away, so she turns her head and looks anywhere but at him.
âWhereâs Elena?â she asks suddenly. Wanting to know, but fearing the answer. His jaw tenses for a split second, but she doesnât miss it.
âLast I heard, up North.â
She realises that heâs not with Elena anymore, but doesnât want it to seem like a big deal. After all, sheâs moved on. So she makes a lame joke. âWhat like the Pole?â He doesnât seem to mind.
He chuckles. And she doesnât realise how much sheâs missed that sound.
âIâm not really sure. We went our separate ways a few years ago.â
âI-â she starts to say.
âYou donât need to say anything Caroline. It is what it is.â She feels sorry for him. Even though she shouldnât have to. I mean, he chose Elena over her. He always chose her and Elena did exactly what Elena always did. Chose Damon. She didnât need Stefan to say it, she already knew.
The song ends. âThanks for the dance. IâŠuhâŠneed some air .â She pulls from his embrace and rushes out to the gardens, grabbing a drink from a nearby waiter and downing it on her way out the doors.
â
âYou know, I wasnât sure if I should come tonight. I almost didnât.â
Why was he here? Why couldnât be leave her alone. Didnât he know how hard this was for her?
âWhy are you telling me this? We arenât friends, Stefan.â The words came out harsher than she meant.
He flinches.
âI need to tell you something that has been on my mind for a long time now. And I know you owe me absolutely nothing, but I promise Iâll go when Iâm finished.â
She doesnât know if she wants him to go. Not after sheâs felt him so close to her body. But she nods with pursed lips and lets him continue.
âI was messed up back then. You saw it. You even told me I was.â She remembers bitterly their final words to each other. âI didnât understand how you could feel those things for me when you had seen me at my worst.â
She scoffs. The self-deprecating act was wearing thin considering heâs spent the better part of a decade with Elena. The bitterness surfaces so quickly that sheâs taken aback by it.
He continues as if he knows what she is thinking. And he probably does, because he knows her. Or he used to anyway. âElena never saw me at my worst Caroline. I never let her. But you. I showed you everything. I told you everything. And at the time, I didnât recognise what that was. That unconditional trust and support. I wasnât worthy of your love.
âElena was never meant to be mine, because I could never show her the monster I am. â
Instinct follows for Caroline, âYouâre not a monster, Stefan.â And he can see she believes the words sheâs just said. It lifts his heart, if only for a moment.
âAnd I believe, that you believe, what youâre saying is true. But this is about Elena choosing Damon and now youâre lonely.â Itâs a low blow, but she has to protect herself. Yes, sheâd moved on, but it didnât mean that her heart wasnât still fragile.
âCaroline-â he starts, but she cuts him off.
â Look Stefan, I listened to what you had to say. Now, I want you to listen to me. Hereâs a list of things it doesnât change.
âIt doesnât change the fact that you chose her over us. Repeatedly.
âOr that you werenât here for me the last twenty years.
âIt doesnât change that you never called or that you never wrote.
âYes, Iâve seen you at your worst. Evil Herself had you under her control for fucks sake. But did I walk away from that?â
She doesnât know how, but years of frustration and insecurities of not being enough have bubbled to the surface.
She takes a deep breath, registering the pain on Stefanâs face, but too broken herself to console him.
âSo thank you for the explanation,â she starts again, her voice a whisper. âTwenty years too late, I might add. But it doesnât change anything. â
She moves to walk past him, but he grabs her wrist gently and pulls her to stand in front of him.
âStefan-â Sheâs looking anywhere but at him. When he starts, her eyes flick to his.
âYouâre right,â he cuts her off. âIt doesnât change anything. Iâve loved you for so long and that will never change.
And well, she doesnât know what to say to that.

Stefan tiptoes into the room and looks down at the small child sleeping. His life. The girl wakes up and sleepily rubs her eyes.
âDaddy?â she mumbles out.
âHey baby,â he whispers. âYou should be asleep.â The girl nods and closes her eyes as Stefan places a kiss on her forehead and tucks her in. Leaving the room, he loosens his tie. Heâs finished up late at the hospital and itâs been a tough day losing one of his patients. He goes to his study and pours himself a glass of bourbon. Pulling out his journal, he starts writing.
He doesnât notice her come in. She coughs softly to alert him to her presence. Looking up, he sees that smile. The smile that is just for him and the weight of the day starts to fall away. Just like that. He might go to work and save lives as a doctor, but it seems that everyday, she saves his life, just by being her.
She pads towards him and runs her fingers soothingly through his hair. He leans into her fingers. She should be upset with him that heâs worked late. Everyday this last fortnight to be accurate. But she canât. Heâs Stefan. And heâs his best when heâs helping others. Thatâs who he is and she canât be mad at that when itâs one if the things that made her fall for him. After all, he saved her life too.
âBabe,â he whispers. She hums in reply, her fingers moving down his neck to his shoulders. âSorry I woke you up,â he turns in his chair and pulls her down into his lap.
His kiss is soft to begin and quickly tranforms to a hunger and need that she doesnât anticipate. She pulls back, hands still in his hero hair, and looks him in the eye. âWhat happened today?â
He goes on to explain his day and she holds him tight in her arms as he breaks down with grief. She loves him for it but she canât help but think that itâs all taking a toll on him. He canât save everyone. Not this 12 year old boy who cheered up his recent days at work. Not his best friend Lexi, who was killed last year. Not his good for nothing brother, who refuses to be helped after losing Elena. And definitely not his own mother, who will never put him first.
âOh, Stefan,â she sighs into his hair.

Drabble 1
Caroline was in a rush. Alaric had asked for her to pick up a gift for one of his colleagues since âshe was always the best at those kind of thingsâ. Instinctively, her eyes snapped downward. I mean, it wasnât like sheâd ever given anyone a snowglobe keychain for a Kris Kringle present. Eyes snapping back to the road, she sighed. She wish she hadnât forgotten about getting this stupid present.
Stefan didnât know when driving became his escape, but I guess decades of running does that to you. Valerie had long gone. She didnât feel like being second choice to a ghost of the woman he loved.
Caroline saw the car coming up fast about a kilometre back. It was weaving and dodging the other cars with such speed that on any other day where she wasnât so tired, she could have appreciated the skill. Because, well, as a vampire with superspeed abilities, slow drivers tended to piss her off too.
Stefan didnât care that people were flipping him off. He knew his own skill well enough to get past them fast and safely. After all, he did have an extended lifetime of experience driving. He couldnât understand why they were all going so slow. Didnât they have places to be? He floored it, cutting people off left, right and centre and not really caring.
Caroline noticed the hoon quickly gain speed behind her. But she was ready for this. She wanted to put this guy in his place on behalf of the rest of the drivers out here. So everytime he made a move to overtake, she would move in front of him. She glanced in her rear-view mirror to see if she could guage a reaction from the driver, but the illegal tint made that impossible.
Stefan had had enough. Truth be told, he was having a bad day and instead of driving behind able to diffuse that pent up steam like it usually did, he was getting more and more frustrated by this car who wouldnât let him pass. Or was he gettimg frustrated that he couldnât overtake a soccer mum? After having enough, he stsrted to exit the highway. The SUV did too. He found himself stuck behind it again, but this time on a single lane road.
She couldnât let it go. She exited the highway too, speeding ahead in front of him.
He saw an opening in the oncoming lane and decided, now or never. Narrowly missing a truck in the opposite lane⊠he got in front, slammed the brakes and turned the wheel.
Caroline could not believe the asshole driver. A second after missing being pulverised by an oncoming semi, the driver slammed their brakes and stopped the car sideways in front of Caroline. Caroline had to use all her reflexes to stop her own car in time. She had most definitely had it with this asshole. Getting out of the car and storming over to the driver, she waited with arms on hips. Every bone in her body wanted to rip the car door off and scare some sense into the driver, but she resisted. The door opened and she stood on awe.
âCaroline?â he asked uncertainly. Never in his wildest dreams did he think he would see her again.
âStefanâŠ?â there were so many things she wanted to say to him, but where would she even start?

1.
He doesnât realise that sheâs been staring at him for the last 3 minutes. Heâs too focussed on grabbing leftovers from the fridge.
When he finally looks up at the blue eyed blonde, heâs taken aback by the seriousness of her gaze. Theyâve been living in a two bedroom apartment in New York since they left Mystic Falls 15 years ago. It was damn well better than living with Damon, but times like these made Stefan wonder which was really the lesser of two evils.
âItâs your turn!â she grinds out.
âWhat if I say no?â he responds slowly, his eyes twinkling. Heâs known her for so long, that he knows there is no room for the word no.
She saunters towards him, leaning in close and whispers seductively into his ear, âI guess I might think you enjoy hearing the word no when it comes to otherâŠthings.â She abruptly turns and walks away, calling out over her shoulder, âDonât forget Mrs. Maguire said to be on time or else you might have to keep our son company in detention.â
