Prompt: “It’s taking everything in me not to slap you in the face right now.”
Pairing: Rooster x OC
 ---x---
It’s been years. He can hardly believe his eyes. Addison Brewer, in the flesh. The girl who broke his heart. Who even does that to an orphan? Cold as ice, like her fucking callsign.
But nonetheless, still hot as hell. He gulps because he can’t help it when he sees her.
He turns back to Penny, pushes up his shades, and orders another round. He was prepared for this.  He’d heard from Maverick that Addison was up in the air again. Not that he was asking. But Pete had some sort of sick twisted idea that he’d cared about the girl who ripped his heart out and shot it out of the sky.
“Un-fucking-believable.”
“What was that, Bradshaw?” Penny asks, handing him the beers.
“Nothing,” he sighs.
Walking back to the others, Phoenix corners him. “I saw. Are you going to be okay?” She had the unfortunate luck in having to see his mopey ass after that breakup. It wasn’t pretty and it wasn’t quick either.
“How do you want to play this?” she asks.
“Like always,” handing her a beer, he picks up a pool cue and tells Bob to rack ‘em up.
 ---
As Addison walks over, she’s not sure what she’s going to say. She knew most of these pilots from around the traps, but they weren’t her squad. She felt slightly uncomfortable. But she knew that this was more to do with seeing her ex, than being the introvert that she was.
She knew Hangman though, and boy was she glad when he came up placing his free arm around her shoulder.  Well, well , well, if it isn’t Little Miss Addison.”
She rolled her eyes at him and gives him a light punch to his side. “Hangman, can we drop the Little Miss now. It’s been 5 years.”
“Sorry, Brewer. Habit,” he shrugs.
“So are you ready?” He asks looking down at her. She raises her eyebrows in question, “First time engaging with enemy fire or as we like to call him, your ex, Rooster?” he explains as if it was the most obvious thing on Earth.
Goddamn, did everyone know?
“It’ll be fine. We’re all adults here.” She calmly explained.
“Well, some of us are. Some of us break little poultry hearts the night before a huge mission.”
“Shut the fuck up, Hangman. That was a long time ago.”
“Hey, don’t get all agro at me, I’m just preparing you for what may come.” And if Addison wasn’t nervous before, she sure was now. Of course these guys hated her. She’d done Bradshaw wrong. And she deserved what would come tonight.
“Heartbreaker is here!” Hangman called out and she grimaced.
Please God, do not let that name stick.
Her eyes naturally darted over to Bradshaw. Of course, she had noticed him the moment she walked in. How could she not? He was lining up a shot, so she didn’t expect him to look up.
But he did.
She couldn’t read him at all. It’s funny how things can change so much.
“Hangman, let me be clear here,” clearing her throat, Addison spoke up, for everyone to hear.  “It’s taking everything in me not to slap you in the face right now.”
The laughter was immediate and loud.
“And she’s back,” Hangman sighs, handing her his drink and walking back to the bar to grab another one.
Out of the corner of her eye, she sees a small smirk form on Rooster’s face and for a second, she thinks that this might not be the full on clusterfuck she was expecting.
---x---
A/N: I thought about maybe planning out these ficlets a little more, but I’m just not organised enough. Maybe at the end I’ll put them in some sort of order *shrugs*

Prompt: i’ll change your life, if you let me.
Pairing: Rooster x OC
---x---
Hypnotized by the waves, Addison doesn’t understand how anyone could ever want to live away from the water.
The sun on your face, the cool wind through the air
.It felt cleansing.  The perfect place to start over.
She’d been here for over a year, thinking that this was it. The longest place she’d lived in after her military service ended. Well, ending was debatable since she hadn’t been discharged and hadn’t requested it either.  But, she was done running or so she’d thought.
And as much as she loved this place. She was ready to go.
It wasn’t as if she was running (except that it was), but she just had to get away from here. From him. And from that military life once again.
This giant pain in the ass, who had serenaded her and convinced her it was okay to let someone in again. “I’ll change your life, you know?” he had said that night on the beach watching the stars. As much as she didn’t want to fall for it, she did.
And now, he was just going to leave, like everyone else.
It wasn’t his fault though. He was a pilot. He never hid that from her. She knew it the minute he walked into the bar. Shades on
and that strut. She’d been around enough pilots to figure that out. Hell, a few years ago, that would be her walking through the bar like that with aviators on.
But Top Gun? It should have comforted her, knowing he was the best of the best. But how do you gain comfort when his job is to fly the most dangerous of dangerous missions? When, at any moment, the call could come and it could be his last.
And she had tried to keep him at a distance from the beginning. But goddamn, he was just so, so good looking
and sweet, and kind, and funny, as she’d come to learn.
He didn’t know all of her back story. He wanted to though. He wanted to know everything about her. But she couldn’t tell him everything. Not so soon after-
And so it was time. Time to let him go. Let this place go. He’d be on a plane out of here tomorrow and she’d be on the road, the very next day.
But not before telling him that this was it. And she knew it was cruel to do it right before he left. But it’s be crueller to not tell him at all.
She felt strong arms wrap around her. She hadn’t heard him walk up and plop himself down in the sand behind her, his knees enclosing her like a protective cage.
He placed a soft kiss on her cheek. “Hey.”
Involuntarily, her body moved into his. She wanted to remember this moment, this feeling.  God, she loved him. And that was danger zone territory.  “Hey,” she drawled out.
“What are you thinking about?” He asked.
It was now or never. “I need to tell you something.” God, this was going to kill her
“Okay, sounds serious
? Everything okay?”
She breathed in and started. “I’m leaving.”
“Okay, and where are you leaving to?” He asked. She could see the grin plastered on his face, without needing to turn back and look. He thought she was kidding.  She slowly got up and he followed suit. His grin fading.
“I don’t want to do this anymore.” She said it with resolve. If he had to believe it, then she’d have to as well.
“Do what?” but he knew the answer.
“You and me. Whatever we’re doing. I don’t want it anymore.” He scoffed and she could feel it coming. Bracing herself like she would before a 6G manoeuvre, she looked him in the eye.
“Like it’s so easy to just turn it off? Wow. You really are your callsign.” She winced. Her wingman, Rain, gave her that callsign and it didn’t mean that. But he was gone and she didn’t fly anymore, so I guess it didn’t really matter anyway.
“I’m sorry-” Rooster started to apologise, but she put up her hand.
“No, you’re right. But, it is what it is, okay. We had some fun and now I’m punching out.”
His tone softens. “Is this about tomorrow?”
Damn. He always knew. “Look, nothing’s going to happen to me out there. I’ll be back before you know it.” He leans forward trying to reach for her.
But she knew better.  “No.”
Hard. And final.
The way it needs to be.
She starts to leave and walk past him. He’s quick though, what with all those years of playing with the squad on the beach. His hand darts out and catches hers easily.
“I’ll change your life, if you let me,” he pleads. She knows it’s a promise from him. That same promise from a year ago. Rooster never says anything he doesn’t mean. That’s just the way he is.
He loves her. She knows it.
And she loves him. He knows it.
But it’s not enough.
“I’m sorry, Bradshaw,” the last words from her mouth as she walks past him.

Prompt: “If you die on me after everything i've done for you... i'll never forgive you.”
Pairing: Rooster x OC
---x---
“If you die on me, after everything I’ve done for you
I'll never forgive you,” Addison grunts out, in between heavy breaths. She’s climbing her way to the last known location of Rooster, desperate to get there before anything else can go wrong in this godforsaken mission.
As she reaches the summit, she’s stopped in her tracks by the carnage in front of her.
Rooster’s plane is split in two, with slightly more damage than her own. A quick assessment later, there’s no sign of him anywhere. She takes a minute and leans up against a tree, groaning because her ribs hurt like a mother-.
“Well, thank fuck for the ejector seat,” a familiar voice comes from behind her.
She rounds on him, catching his grin.
“Thank fuck for the ejector seat
.Thank fuck for the ejector seat? Are you fucking insane or just concussed?” she asks as she forgets the pain in her chest and runs up to Rooster with a tight hug.
He pulls back quickly, not letting go of her arms, apparently assessing her for any damage.
“I’m fine,” she says exasperatedly as she waves him off. He gives her a look that says he doesn’t quite believe her. But Addison knows there’s really no time left. They’ve got to be miles from the extraction point.
“We’ve got to go. Like, now.” Snapping back to reality, he nods. He doesn’t let go of her though. His hand slides up to her cheek. He leans down and kisses her.  It’s familiar and welcomed, calming her in seconds.
Either of them could have died today.
But they didn’t and they were both still here.
---x---
Just saw Top Gun: Maverick and slightly obsessed with Rooster...aren’t we all?
These are just random words/stories with Rooster and an OC (Addison Brewer) based on some old Prompt Lists I have.

Now

She’s breathing heavily. Not really knowing why she’s running.
—
12 months earlier

“Caroline,” he whines. “Come on, please just put in a good word for me.”
She can see the twinkle in his eyes and she can’t help but think he’s such a dork.
“I don’t even know her.”
“Yes, but you can get to know her,” he protests.
“So can you!” she chuckles. Seeing his look of desperation, she gives in. “Fine. But just so you know, you owe me.”
—
8 months earlier
She’s got a crush. It’s causing butterflies to permanently reside in her tummy every time she walks down the halls.
“Stefan!” she calls out. He’s down the hall kissing Elena goodbye and she fights a grimace. Their PDA has become intolerable 6 weeks into their relationship.
“Hey Caroline, what’s up?” he puts an arm around her shoulder and walks her to History.
“Remember that time I singlehandedly got Elena and you together?” She’s exaggerating and he’s laughing.
“I faintly recall you having a small role to play in that.”
“Whatever, Salvatore,” rolling her eyes, she continues. “I need to call in that favour.”
“Okay,” he’s confused but he listens to what she has to say.
—
6 months earlier

It’s Tyler and he still can’t wrap his head around it. Caroline and Tyler. Tyler and Caroline. Nope. Still weird. He’s happy enough that Caroline is happy, but doesn’t mean it’s not weird seeing her with someone. He puts it down to being an overprotective friend.
—
4 months earlier
Elena fell for his brother and somewhere down the line he’s fallen for Caroline. He thinks he’s always loved her but now he doesn’t know how to act around her. When Tyler breaks it off with her, he sucks it up and acts like her best friend again, because that's what she deserves . They slowly heal together and things are good.
—
2 weeks earlier
Things aren’t good. He’s floored her. One minute they’re talking about the good old days and the next-
“I love you Caroline and I’m in love with you.”
“I
uh-” she stutters. She’s taken aback and who could blame her? “You can’t be.” And she’s so sure of it.
—
Now

“What the hell, Caroline? Why are you running?” he’s breathing heavily after chasing her through the woods. He thinks its absurd. She’s been avoiding him for two weeks now and it’s driving him insane.
“Seriously, what do you think running away is going to achieve here?“ he sounds exasperated.
“I thought we could go back to whatever the hell we were!” she yells out as she comes out from behind a tree looking slightly embarrassed.
He laughs. It’s all he can do. The laughter dies down, when he catches a glimpse of her less than impressed face.
“We can’t,” he says confidently as he walks up to her, arms going around her waist.
He waits for her to kiss him and when she does, he knows it was always meant to be her.

She’s not sure why she’s here. I mean, it’s not like he asked her to be. And she’s well aware that there’s a million other places that she could be.
But here she is. Because he’s dying and she can’t let it happen again. She takes a deep breath and rings the doorbell to the Salvatore mansion.
Damon opens the door and she tries not to roll her eyes. Of course he came back, which means Elena probably did too.
There’s no love lost here as she tersely asks where Stefan is. Damon directs her upstairs to his room and as she gets there, she’s afraid to go in. Not of what she’ll find, but of the memories, she’s been trying so hard to forget.
She hesitates, but walks in because he deserves this much.
He’s frail and she hates that he’s risked it all for Damon. Again.
But that’s what he does and she isn’t surprised.
He turns his head to her when she walks in. And his smile lights her up as it’s always done. But he’s weak and she hopes she’s not too late.
She takes out the vial from her bag and tells him to drink. His look is one of pity, that he needs her to accept his fate. “It won’t help Caroline,” he resigns.
“You don’t even know what it is.”
“I know I’ve been bitten by a werewolf and the last I heard, Klaus wanted me dead.”
“Can’t blame him.” She’s blunt with him.
“Klaus gave me this when I met him in New Orleans, in case of an emergency.”
“That’s yours-”
“And I’m giving it to you.” She sees him groan in pain and she needs him to hurry. “Just drink it. Now.” She practically forces it down his throat.
—
She’s sitting cross legged on his bed when he walks out drying his hair. She wants answers and she's going to get them.
She’s first to break the silence. “What I don’t get is why didn’t you call me? Were you just going to die and leave me to deal with it?“
He doesn’t say anything immediately, like he’s unsure that any answer would make a difference.
Finally, he starts to speak, “I’m not proud of the way I left things, Caroline. You told me not to go and I still did. Your life is better off without someone like me“

“Errr
Stefan, what are you doing?  Why are you behind a dumpster?”
“Hiding,” he says, his breathing heavy.
“From what?” Bonnie takes a look around. Not spotting anything at first, she looks puzzled.  But then she sees her.
“Caroline.”
“She
she looks mad. What did you do?”
“I, uh
volunteered.”
“That’s a good thing.  Shouldn’t you be helping and not hiding?”  she kinks her eyebrow in the way that only Bonnie Bennett can.
“I’m doing everything wrong. She’s going to murder me.”
Bonnie laughs. “Stefan, she loves you. She’s not going to get rid of you. Besides, you’re too pretty to be killed.”
As she speaks, Caroline calls out to Bonnie, evidently not seeing Stefan yet. “Have you seen Stefan around? I am going to kill him.”
Bonnie gives her a nervous look and Caroline’s eyes narrow. She turns the corner and spots him.
“Stefan Salvatore! What the hell are you doing? The carnival is in three days!”
It’s only the beginning of her rant, but he can’t help but smile. He rushes forward and silences her with a kiss. It won’t distract her for long, but it’s worth the extra lecture time.

49.
Walking back to her apartment at 3am with Stefan Salvatore in tow was the last thing Caroline Forbes expected to be doing...and yet, there he is, walking silently behind her. He’s walking much too close and she can feel him tense every time she tries opening her mouth to speak. But hell if she even knows what she's trying to say.
She’s seen him a handful of times after they all left Mystic Falls and this time is no different.
The town was destroyed over a decade ago and as much as it pained her to see the Forbes household go at the time, she was glad to be rid of that town and the supernatural forces that came with it.  She was particularly glad to be rid of the Salvatore brothers (well, one Salvatore brother).
As they walk, there’s this pesky crackle of energy between the two of them that just won’t go away.  And all the while, she’s thinking..it’s been twelve goddamn years already - how am I going to deal with an eternity of this? Every time he pops up, her whole put together world topples over.
They’re at the landing to the apartment block and she needs to get whatever she needs to say out before they go upstairs.  It must be the alcohol talking, because Caroline Forbes usually internalises that shit. She’s all too aware  that if she fights with him up there, then the apartment will be tarnished with memories of him and she can’t have that.
So they have it out in the middle of the street at 3am in the morning.
She tells him everything she’s been needing to say for over twelve years...maybe even more. How she would have given up everything for him.  About how it feels to come second or third, every time, because that’s her life and what he did to her. How she’s lost everyone she cares about because he couldn’t put anyone else above Damon Fucking Salvatore.
And then he’s shouting back at her - that he did give it all up for her. He killed his own brother for her. He watched Elena mourn Damon for years...watched her tear herself apart with grief and worst of all watched Elena hate him.
Elena would never forgive him and he would never forgive himself.
She hisses angrily when she hears Elena brought up and he knows instantly that that was the wrong thing to say, but he needs to get things off his chest as well. He just needs them both to move past this all. I mean, it’s been twelve goddamn years.
So she retorts, “What about Tyler or Matt?” She pauses, because, well, the last name is the hardest to get out. “Or Bonnie?” Her voice breaks.
“Everyone I love is gone because of him and because of you and Elena and your deluded need to save Damon Salvatore. Newsflash Stefan, he was beyond saving.” It’s unfair of her to blame him and she half means it and she half doesn't. But it’s out there now and she can’t take it back.
He remains silent and watches her. And she wants to both run and apologise to him and also to run far, far away from him.
After a moment, he speaks, “I’m sorry.”  He’s breathes out these two words and she can see the anguish in his eyes. He didn’t mean for this to happen. Any of it.
She’s missed him. That’s what it comes down to. Hating him...or trying very hard to...won’t bring any of them back.  And if she can’t forgive him now, she’ll never be able to.

“You were going to turn it off?! After everything we’ve been through.” She’s livid with him.
“In my defence, I was trying to protect you,” He knows that he is so screwed and somehow it makes everything just that much funnier. He can’t hide his smile.
She’s trying not to get distracted by it. “Are you kidding me right now?!”
“Look nothing was going to happen. Damon said-” She cuts him off and he immediately knows he’s said the one word that has destroyed any chance of his redemption.
Sarcasm lining her every syllable, “Oh, I’m sorry . I didn’t realise that Damon said it’d be okay. Remind me to go to him the next time I need some ridiculous advice.“
She scoffs. ”I love you Stefan, but for someone who is so smart, you are an absolute idiot.“
He’s sheepish when he counters her remark. “It’s not like you wouldn’t have done the same for me.”

She can see he’s drunk and she hates it. He’s dancing with Elena and she hates that more. She’s not prepared when she sees them kiss. So she runs, but he doesn’t notice.
—
She’s leaned up against her front door trying to breathe. He’s absolutely fucked everything up.  She’s loved him for as long as she can remember and he went and ruined it all.
His palm is resting against the same door, hoping that it will magically open.  He needs to tell her everything, but it’s Caroline. And if she doesn’t want to let him in, then she won’t.  His forehead touches the door and he’s not sure what else he can do.
“I thought we could go back to whatever the hell we were,” he sighs in frustration.
She hears him and well, she doesn’t know what they were either.
The door lock clicks and he has just enough time to step back instead of falling through doorway.
“You kissed me.” It’s a statement loaded with silent questions. When he doesn’t answer, she continues. “Why?“
“Isn’t it obvious?” And he looks into her eyes and sees that no, it’s Caroline and of course she’d be clueless to the fact that anyone could want her.
“Then you kissed Elena.” Another loaded statement.
“I thought you didn’t feel the same way. I made a mistake, Caroline.“ He’s hoping they’ve been best friends long enough for her to know he’s not lying.
“Well, which is it?” she asks.
“Huh?”
“Do you want to go back to what we were before? Or do you want something else?”
He grins wide. Stepping up to her, he wraps his arms around her waist.
“We couldn’t go back, even if we tried.”
And ain’t that the truth.

“Ugh!” she huffs for the tenth time tonight. “I cannot believe him!” scanning the room, she still sees no sign of Tyler. I mean, she told him not to be late and here she is standing like a loser at the back of the room.
It was her best friend’s wedding and she was not on the dancefloor. How was this happening? Bonnie was going to kill her.
“I can dance with you
if you want?” a voice she’d recognise anywhere, spoke from behind her. Taking a deep, calming breath, she turns to face him.
“Stefan?” she asks. It is a stupid question, but she needs to stall to think of what she wants to say next.
“Hi Caroline.” His head tilts almost sheepishly. He saves her from answering by extending his hand.
“So
shall we?”
Caroline hesitates. She isn’t prepared for this. Why didn’t Bonnie warn her that he was invited. She hadn’t felt this kind of betrayal since the third grade, when Elena and Bonnie didn’t tell her that Beau Brady had asked Missy to go on the merry-go-round with him. Traitors. She turns to where the Bride is looking around, presumably for her. Realising that this night is bigger than her, she takes his hand.
And oh. It is warm, and gentle, and brings back so many memories. She closes her eyes and swallows down those feelings. This is a dance. Only a dance. And she will most definitely not let it affect her.
So what if she had spent the better part of twenty years getting over Stefan Salvatore. She has to remember that she has done just that. She has gotten over him. This is just a dance between old acquaintances. Anyways, she needs a partner and he’s offered. It’s nothing more than that.
But the way he leads her to the dancefloor, his hand on the small of her back is distracting, she has to admit. Twirling her, she gets a good look at him. And damn, if she had a heartbeat, it’d be off the charts. The man always did know how to wear a suit.
Settling into a rhythm, Caroline wonders what would have happened if things went differently all those years ago.
—
“You look well,” he says softly, breaking the silence. She doesn’t know how to respond. And well, isn’t that funny. She never expected there to come a day when talking to him would feel awkward.
“Thanks. You too.” She wants to run away. As fast as she can. But she also wants to never let him go. She’s afraid of her eyes giving it away, so she turns her head and looks anywhere but at him.
“Where’s Elena?” she asks suddenly. Wanting to know, but fearing the answer. His jaw tenses for a split second, but she doesn’t miss it.
“Last I heard, up North.”
She realises that he’s not with Elena anymore, but doesn’t want it to seem like a big deal. After all, she’s moved on. So she makes a lame joke. “What like the Pole?” He doesn’t seem to mind.
He chuckles. And she doesn’t realise how much she’s missed that sound.
“I’m not really sure. We went our separate ways a few years ago.”
“I-” she starts to say.
“You don’t need to say anything Caroline. It is what it is.” She feels sorry for him. Even though she shouldn’t have to. I mean, he chose Elena over her. He always chose her and Elena did exactly what Elena always did. Chose Damon. She didn’t need Stefan to say it, she already knew.
The song ends. “Thanks for the dance. I
uh
need some air .” She pulls from his embrace and rushes out to the gardens, grabbing a drink from a nearby waiter and downing it on her way out the doors.
—
“You know, I wasn’t sure if I should come tonight. I almost didn’t.”
Why was he here? Why couldn’t be leave her alone. Didn’t he know how hard this was for her?
“Why are you telling me this? We aren’t friends, Stefan.” The words came out harsher than she meant.
He flinches.
“I need to tell you something that has been on my mind for a long time now. And I know you owe me absolutely nothing, but I promise I’ll go when I’m finished.”
She doesn’t know if she wants him to go. Not after she’s felt him so close to her body. But she nods with pursed lips and lets him continue.
“I was messed up back then. You saw it. You even told me I was.” She remembers bitterly their final words to each other. “I didn’t understand how you could feel those things for me when you had seen me at my worst.”
She scoffs. The self-deprecating act was wearing thin considering he’s spent the better part of a decade with Elena. The bitterness surfaces so quickly that she’s taken aback by it.
He continues as if he knows what she is thinking. And he probably does, because he knows her. Or he used to anyway. “Elena never saw me at my worst Caroline. I never let her. But you. I showed you everything. I told you everything. And at the time, I didn’t recognise what that was. That unconditional trust and support. I wasn’t worthy of your love.
“Elena was never meant to be mine, because I could never show her the monster I am. “
Instinct follows for Caroline, “You’re not a monster, Stefan.” And he can see she believes the words she’s just said. It lifts his heart, if only for a moment.
“And I believe, that you believe, what you’re saying is true. But this is about Elena choosing Damon and now you’re lonely.” It’s a low blow, but she has to protect herself. Yes, she’d moved on, but it didn’t mean that her heart wasn’t still fragile.
“Caroline-” he starts, but she cuts him off.
“ Look Stefan, I listened to what you had to say. Now, I want you to listen to me. Here’s a list of things it doesn’t change.
“It doesn’t change the fact that you chose her over us. Repeatedly.
“Or that you weren’t here for me the last twenty years.
“It doesn’t change that you never called or that you never wrote.
“Yes, I’ve seen you at your worst. Evil Herself had you under her control for fucks sake. But did I walk away from that?“
She doesn’t know how, but years of frustration and insecurities of not being enough have bubbled to the surface.
She takes a deep breath, registering the pain on Stefan’s face, but too broken herself to console him.
“So thank you for the explanation,” she starts again, her voice a whisper. “Twenty years too late, I might add. But it doesn’t change anything. “
She moves to walk past him, but he grabs her wrist gently and pulls her to stand in front of him.
“Stefan-” She’s looking anywhere but at him. When he starts, her eyes flick to his.
“You’re right,” he cuts her off. “It doesn’t change anything. I’ve loved you for so long and that will never change.
And well, she doesn’t know what to say to that.

50.
Stefan tiptoes into the room and looks down at the small child sleeping. His life. The girl wakes up and sleepily rubs her eyes.
“Daddy?” she mumbles out.
“Hey baby,” he whispers. “You should be asleep.” The girl nods and closes her eyes as Stefan places a kiss on her forehead and tucks her in. Leaving the room, he loosens his tie. He’s finished up late at the hospital and it’s been a tough day losing one of his patients. He goes to his study and pours himself a glass of bourbon. Pulling out his journal, he starts writing.
He doesn’t notice her come in. She coughs softly to alert him to her presence. Looking up, he sees that smile. The smile that is just for him and the weight of the day starts to fall away. Just like that. He might go to work and save lives as a doctor, but it seems that everyday, she saves his life, just by being her.
She pads towards him and runs her fingers soothingly through his hair. He leans into her fingers. She should be upset with him that he’s worked late. Everyday this last fortnight to be accurate. But she can’t. He’s Stefan. And he’s his best when he’s helping others. That’s who he is and she can’t be mad at that when it’s one if the things that made her fall for him. After all, he saved her life too.
“Babe,” he whispers. She hums in reply, her fingers moving down his neck to his shoulders. “Sorry I woke you up,” he turns in his chair and pulls her down into his lap.
His kiss is soft to begin and quickly tranforms to a hunger and need that she doesn’t anticipate. She pulls back, hands still in his hero hair, and looks him in the eye. “What happened today?”
He goes on to explain his day and she holds him tight in her arms as he breaks down with grief. She loves him for it but she can’t help but think that it’s all taking a toll on him. He can’t save everyone. Not this 12 year old boy who cheered up his recent days at work. Not his best friend Lexi, who was killed last year. Not his good for nothing brother, who refuses to be helped after losing Elena. And definitely not his own mother, who will never put him first.
“Oh, Stefan,” she sighs into his hair.

Drabble 1
Caroline was in a rush. Alaric had asked for her to pick up a gift for one of his colleagues since “she was always the best at those kind of things”. Instinctively, her eyes snapped downward. I mean, it wasn’t like she’d ever given anyone a snowglobe keychain for a Kris Kringle present. Eyes snapping back to the road, she sighed. She wish she hadn’t forgotten about getting this stupid present.
Stefan didn’t know when driving became his escape, but I guess decades of running does that to you. Valerie had long gone. She didn’t feel like being second choice to a ghost of the woman he loved.
Caroline saw the car coming up fast about a kilometre back. It was weaving and dodging the other cars with such speed that on any other day where she wasn’t so tired, she could have appreciated the skill. Because, well, as a vampire with superspeed abilities, slow drivers tended to piss her off too.
Stefan didn’t care that people were flipping him off. He knew his own skill well enough to get past them fast and safely. After all, he did have an extended lifetime of experience driving. He couldn’t understand why they were all going so slow. Didn’t they have places to be? He floored it, cutting people off left, right and centre and not really caring.
Caroline noticed the hoon quickly gain speed behind her. But she was ready for this. She wanted to put this guy in his place on behalf of the rest of the drivers out here. So everytime he made a move to overtake, she would move in front of him. She glanced in her rear-view mirror to see if she could guage a reaction from the driver, but the illegal tint made that impossible.
Stefan had had enough. Truth be told, he was having a bad day and instead of driving behind able to diffuse that pent up steam like it usually did, he was getting more and more frustrated by this car who wouldn’t let him pass. Or was he gettimg frustrated that he couldn’t overtake a soccer mum? After having enough, he stsrted to exit the highway. The SUV did too. He found himself stuck behind it again, but this time on a single lane road.
She couldn’t let it go. She exited the highway too, speeding ahead in front of him.
He saw an opening in the oncoming lane and decided, now or never. Narrowly missing a truck in the opposite lane
he got in front, slammed the brakes and turned the wheel.
Caroline could not believe the asshole driver. A second after missing being pulverised by an oncoming semi, the driver slammed their brakes and stopped the car sideways in front of Caroline. Caroline had to use all her reflexes to stop her own car in time. She had most definitely had it with this asshole. Getting out of the car and storming over to the driver, she waited with arms on hips. Every bone in her body wanted to rip the car door off and scare some sense into the driver, but she resisted. The door opened and she stood on awe.
“Caroline?” he asked uncertainly. Never in his wildest dreams did he think he would see her again.
“Stefan
?” there were so many things she wanted to say to him, but where would she even start?

1.
He doesn’t realise that she’s been staring at him for the last 3 minutes. He’s too focussed on grabbing leftovers from the fridge.
When he finally looks up at the blue eyed blonde, he’s taken aback by the seriousness of her gaze. They’ve been living in a two bedroom apartment in New York since they left Mystic Falls 15 years ago. It was damn well better than living with Damon, but times like these made Stefan wonder which was really the lesser of two evils.
“It’s your turn!” she grinds out.
“What if I say no?” he responds slowly, his eyes twinkling. He’s known her for so long, that he knows there is no room for the word no.
She saunters towards him, leaning in close and whispers seductively into his ear, “I guess I might think you enjoy hearing the word no when it comes to other
things.” She abruptly turns and walks away, calling out over her shoulder, “Don’t forget Mrs. Maguire said to be on time or else you might have to keep our son company in detention.“
