What do you think it is about Bad Ends that are so appealing?

Fun question! I have a few angles to go with this one. Bad Ends Likened to the Horror Genre - Probably the easiest to understand is to consider Bad Ends as something in the Horror genre, and much of what people like and enjoy about them fits perfectly. There's creativity in the deaths and kills and the how's and why's, it can make the audience feel a lot - dread, suspense, fear, disgust - sometimes even vindication, catharsis or schadenfreude. It's not to everyone's taste and it doesn't mean the audience is sadistic - feeling anything is what fiction does. In fact, there is something satisfying in seeing the worst violence, horror, monstrous things - but knowing it's all fiction and fake. Putting words to it all is hard, but then, as Quentin Tarantino explained, "Because it's so much fun, Jan!" Kinky - Lets hit the taboo, I think you're mature and adult enough for it. Many kinks can be simplified to an experience of dominance/submission, and people suffering is a part of that. Depending on your preferences, in one story, one could see themselves as the victim or the aggressor. Bad Ends with something like TFs just broaden the possibilities of how that suffering happens, and how long, and whatever extremes that can be mined from that specific TF. Of course, this is all fantasy and not reflective of the audience in real life. Creative Exercises - This might be a little secret, but I like stories with Transformations in them! That includes Good Ends, stories about adapting to difficulty, stories about realizing something new about oneself, and, naturally, Bad Ends. They, especially, usually push TFs to extremes, and I love seeing how far it goes for the character, physically, mentally, socially, etc.

Obviously, not for everyone, and many bad ends in different contexts will have even me pretty disappointed or unsatisfied or even grossed out - so I def understand why many would be turned off by them. But I hope I explained that, when done just right, I give my thumbs up!
