Sorry this is after Christmas! I hope your Christmas went well and that your 2016 kicks butt!  

“Lady Palutena!” Pit said, rushing into the room.

Palutena startled, nearly dropping the supplies in her hands, “What is it, Pit?”

“Sorry for startling you! Viridi sent me to tell you that she was here.” he said, with a tiny salute, “Pittoo’s also here,” he added as a side note.  

She smiled, “Don’t be! I’ve been expecting Viridi all day. You’re free to go with Pittoo for the rest of the day, if you’d like, you have nothing else scheduled for today.”

His face lit up, “Really?! Thank you, Lady Palutena! Um, have fun with Viridi!” he said, leaving the room as fast as he had came.

Palutena shook her head, he was too excitable that one.

“Thank you, Viridi, for offering to do this,”

Viridi snorted. “I’m only doing this for Pit’s sake. Some one with his duties shouldn’t be eating,” she gestured to the dusty kitchen, “Whatever you’ve been feeding him.”

Palutena smiled.

“Alright,” Viridi said, pushing up her sleeves, “We’re going to start very, very simple, with some soup.”

Ok, soup, easy, Palutena thought, the last time I tried to make soup and something was ruined by the vegetable and not the soup.

Viridi hoisted two baskets of miscellaneous cooking ingredients on the counter with a few pieces of paper on the top. She held it up, “I took the effort of writing this all down so if you want to make this again you can. First step, we need to finish cutting up all the vegetables. Pittoo did the tomatoes and the potatoes earlier but we’ve got to do the rest. You do know how to cut up vegetables, right?”

“Of course!”

“OK,” Viridi said and scooted one of the two baskets towards Palutena, “I need you to cut up everything in here into bite size pieces. Everything that needed to be peeled, was, so don’t worry about that.”

Palutena gave a mock salute and took the basket.

Viridi turned around and began to tend her own vegetables when a bright flash of light came from behind her.

“What are doing?!” she asked to the sight of Palutena attempting to use a pair of claws to cut several vegetables.

“I borrowed these from Pit awhile ago, figuring that these would speed up the process a bit,” the goddess in question answered.

Viridi stared at her before responding with: “Take them off.”

“What?” “Off. We’re cooking with no weapons, no magic, until you get the basics.”

Palutena hesitantly took off both claws and set them down. Viridi handed her a small knife. Palutena examined it, unimpressed. This process was not going to be as fast as she had liked.

10 minutes passed of both goddesses chopping away. Viridi occasionally turned to make sure Palutena had not whipped out the the claws again.

“Are you finished?” Viridi asked.  

Palutena nodded in response.

“Alright.” Viridi pulled out a large pot, “Grab the olive oil and pour a little bit in.”

Palutena did that.

“Alright good, that’s not hard to mess up though,” she said while they waited for the oil to heat up, “Now you’re going to add the leeks, garlic, and a little bit of salt.”

Palutena did that and then looked to Virdi, “What do we do after this?”

“Wait for all of the thing in there to soften.”

“How long will that take?”

“10 minutes at the maximum. No, we’re not using magic,” she said to the look on Palutena’s face, “We have to let the vegetables do what they need, by themselves.”

 Palutena, once again, did not like the way, but waited out the ten minutes impatiently.

Both looked over the side of the pot, while Virid poked the vegetables inside.

“Those seem ready,” she said, “Alright, now add the carrots, potatoes and green beans.”

“Do we have to wait again?”

“No, you’ve got to stir them for a bit.”

“Ok,” Palutena stirred for a bit and deeming them stirred, made a move to let Viridi asse it.

Viridi looked at her, “What are you doing?”

“I stirred them.”

“I can see that. “You have to wait for a bit and then stir it again.”

“Again?”

“Again.”

Palutena kept stirring, as told, until the vegetables had reached Viridi’s approval.

“Those look alright,” she said, looking over the written out recipe. She handed a small jug to Palutena.

“What is this?” Palutena asked, swishing the contents around some and attempting to look inside.

“Chicken stock. The other paper shows you how to do that but we’re cutting some corners. Pour in about, half.”

Palutena stepped aside and Viridi fiddled with the heat, “There we go. Now pour in the rest of the vegetables.”

Viridi put a lid on the pot, “Now we have 35 minutes to wait.”

“How about a dip in the hot spring?” Palutena suggested, after a moment.

“You know what? That sounds wonderful.”

Two nearly identical heads were stuck through the kitchen door. Both of them took a deep whiff of the scent coming from inside

“Lady Palutena? What’s cooking? It smells delicious!” Pit asked, stepping foot inside. He was followed by his mirror.

“It smells like vegetable soup,” Pittoo said.

Two goddesses came running in, nearly running into to the two.

Pit blinked, “Wha-?” Even Pittoo looked surprised at how fast the two ran in.

“I was afraid it going to burn,” Palutena said, paying the angels no mind.

“Why? I had a timer on it. I wasn’t going to let it,”

Both goddesses’ hands moved towards the bowl.

“I get first bowl,” Viridi said to Palutena, swatting the other goddess’ hands away. Viridi ladled herself a bit out and tested a bit. The angels had made their way to the over to the pot and stood beside their respective goddess.

“Well?” Pit asked, after a beat of silence.

“Well. It’s not half bad,” she said, giving Palutena a quick smile.

Palutena grinned back in response as the two angels both clamoured over each other to get the next bowl. “Next week, we’re moving on to something more difficult.”

“I look forward to it.”
