          maybe  it  was  impolite  to  ask.   noel’s  curiosity  seemed  to  be  the  bane  of  him,   this  time  surely  different  than  no  other,   mouth  running  off  and  a  question  that  would  surely  lead  to  the  downfall  of  whatever  budding  friendship  they  had.   there’s  regret  and  guilt  that’s  slapped  onto  his  face  in  but  a  moment   —   he  tries  to  hid  it,   but  it’s  plain  as  day  that  he  felt  bad  for  what  he’d  said.   it’s  best  to  try  and  direct  it  somewhere  better.

          ‘    i  get  what  you  mean…   my  pokemon  are  my  best  friends,   too!    ’     statement  said  with  a  tense  smile,   but  his  words  are  honest  as  he  is.   “maybe  that’s  not  really  what  he  meant”  briefly  runs  through  his  mind  and  fear  sets  in  that  he  might  be  doing  something  wrong.   anxiety  brings  his  hands  together,   twiddling  thumbs,   a  little  too  obvious  in  how  he  expresses  emotions  despite  the  attempt  to  hide  it.   instead  of  letting  this  silence  rule,   though,   he’d  keep  talking.

          ‘    but…   isn’t  it  still  kinda  lonely?   pokemon  and  humans  can’t  normally  speak  to  each  other   —   not  like  in  the  books...   at  least  i  don’t  think  it’s  possible.    ’     oh!   he  can  lead  this  into  a  much  better  topic,   he’s  sure!   the  dramatic  shift  in  attitude  is  almost  comical.     ‘    say…   if  you  could  talk  to  pokemon,   what  would  you  do?    ’     a  smile  radiant  and  welcoming,   noel  keeps  talking.

          ‘    i  know  i’d  want  to  help  pokemon  all  around  the  world!   maybe  i’d  end  up  a  hero  among  them…!?    ’     a  playful  laugh  follows.     ‘    oh,   but  i’d  wanna  have  some  long  chats  with  my  pokemon  first.   i’d  want  to  know  what  they  think  of  me,   what  i  could  do  better  as  a  trainer…   maybe  they  can  tell  me  stories  about  before  they  joined  my  team!?   ahh,   that’d  be  great!!!   what  do  you  think,   n?    ’

          ‘    wow...   i’ve  never  seen  pokemon  like  those  before!    ’     unfamiliar  with  the  species  which  inhabited  alola,   variants  and  all,   brought  curiosity  and  drew  noel  forward.   it’s  that  curiosity  which  always  did  drive  him,   actually,   with  his  desire  to  explore  to  find  his  destiny  tied  in  with  his  wish  to  see  the  world  around  him.   it’s  obvious  that  he  meant  no  harm  as  he  approached,   but...   he  certainly  seems  like  kind  of  an  idiot  for  this.     ‘    that’s  an  alolan  ninetales,   right?   though  i  don’t  know  what  this  fairy  could  be.    ’     inching  closer  and  closer  still  to  such  strange  new  pokemon...   until  he  realizes  how  fucking  weird  he’s  acting  and  steps  back.     ‘    i’m  sorry.   i  really  did  come  up  without  thinking.    ’     upon  closer  inspection,   didn’t  she  look  like  royalty  from  fairy  tales?   ...   maybe  she’ll  give  him  the  task  of  some  legendary  quest!?     ‘    what’s  your  name?   i’m  noel.    ’
