8. how slow is a slow burn? it's both about time for the characters but also about words on a page. if a fic is 50k but takes place over a day they meet at the start of and kiss at the end of then that's not a slowburn, but also if a fic takes place over 60 years but is only 2k that's not a slowburn either. there is no hard and fast rule it just has to be a combination, altho the longer in words the less amount of time in the fic it has to be.

16. are one-shots really underrated? i have no clue what wider fandom people want/like i love a good one-shot but i know nothing about stats lol so maybe? whenever i listen to the devil on my shoulder and sort an entire fandom by kudos then it does tend to be a lot of chaptered works but depending on the fandom there can be a lot of one-shots as well.

33. give your writing a compliment. i think my dialogue is pretty solid quite a bit of the time!

38. “This never happened” fix-it fics or “this happened but” fix-it fics? *definitely* "this happened but" fix-it fics. allows for more angst while still fixing things eventually :))

it's irrationally upsetting to me how frequently genius lyrics are incorrect and yet are accepted as reality. especially when it's luke's lyrics. get that perfection right please.

Fanfic tiktok is wild... I see so many people saying shit like "I could never read anything below 60k!!", or "What story can you even tell in under 5k words?" or "A oneshot below 10k isn't even a story!" or "I always filter completed fics by 100k< only!"

And I'm like...

A) which fandoms are you reading fics for where you have this kind of offerings on the regular?

B) have you heard of short stories? If you truly think every story NEEDS to be longform to connect with people, I sincerely feel sorry for you.

C) Average novel length is between 50k to 100k. I'm sorry, but CONSISTENTLY demanding fic writers to push out fics of that length is insane. Just think about it: YOU DEMAND AUTHORS TO PUT OUT FICS THAT COMPARE TO COMMERCIAL NOVELS IN LENGTH (AND QUALITY) AS A BASELINE.

Yall are wilding.
