This upcoming free virtual event is brought to you by the Under the Rainbow Storytelling and Edmonds Neighborhood Action Coalition!

Rhubarb-Apple Muffins
A tray of rhubarb-apple muffins with a yellow ranunculus. The tray is lined with a brown-and-white cloth with a cat pattern.
It’s Pride Month. I sat down to write this, and thought, wow, I am ready for Wrath Month and Goth Season. Spring is finally here, just in time for Juneuary; my brain feels like a sieve, and I am so tired! Tired of the never-ending pandemic and the lifting…

Gideon the Ninth Skull Cookies
Gideon the Ninth Skull Cookies
“Her adept said: “I’ll keep it off you. Nav, show them what the Ninth House does.” Gideon lifted her sword. The construct worked itself free of its last confines of masonry and rotten wood and heaved before them, flexing itself like a butterfly. “We do bones, motherfucker,” she said.”Tamsyn Muir, Gideon the Ninth

Polenta Casserole with Spring Onions and Mushrooms
Polenta Casserole with Spring Onions and Mushrooms, and making the heteros upseteros
Skip to recipe.
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about Midwestern food since starting work on a new zine about Jello salad (forthcoming Summer 2021), so now seems like a good time to share another Midwestern-mets-Pacific Northwest recipe: Polenta Casserole with Spring Onions and Mushrooms.

The F*ck-Uterus Cake
The last party I went to before Lockdown 1 was my friend’s JM’s “Fuck-Uterus Party,” held in celebration of getting their uterus removed. They requested a chocolate and raspberry cake with an angry cartoon uterus on it and the phrase “Good Riddance” written on it. Readers, it was a delight to make.

Double-Chocolate Candy-Cane Cookies
How do you start a recipe essay in the (late?) pandemic without it sounding flippant or weird? “In the last year, I spent the time that I wasn’t panicking about the pandemic or the election or all the anti-trans bills trying to work through my pantry.” I mean, we all have to eat, even in “unprecedented times,” and working through my pantry was a manageable challenge that made me feel like I had…

2020 in Review and 2021 Goals
What a hellish year.
My beautiful sunflower that I grew from a seed this summer
So, normally, I do a new year’s wrap up and set some goals, but y’all, I am TIRED. 2020 really sucked, and it highlighted so many ways that things could be changed that would have served us all better in the first place: working from home, sick pay, universal health care and a UBI, etc. I’m scared and angry and…
