“Cas,” Dean huffs. “Movie night is sacred.”

In his defense, Cas at least has the decency to look guilty. “Honey, I know movie night is a tradition but Jack has been begging to go to that toddler yoga class for months and this is the first night they’ve had an opening.”

Dean sighs, turning to look out the kitchen window. He watches the sunlight dance across the lake in their backyard as he swallows the sudden lump in his throat.

Jeesh, he thinks to himself, it’s a stupid movie night, don’t get weepy about it.

Dean clears his throat and looks back at Cas. “Of course, Jack’s been dying to go to that class. I’ll just call everyone and reschedule.”

Cas smiles gently, reaching over to run a gentle hand up his arm. “Don’t worry about that, I’ll send out a text right now.”

Dean smiles back, capturing his husband’s hand with his own before pulling it to his lips. “I’m gonna head outside and work on that pergola in the garden.”

“Okay, love you.”

“Love you too.” Dean says as he leans in for a brief kiss.

A few hours later, Dean is in the passenger seat as Cas drives them into town for the toddler yoga class. Jack is in the backseat talking excitedly about the turtles he saw on his walk earlier that day.

“Momma,” Jack says. Dean’s not exactly sure when Jack started calling him momma, but he’s never had the heart to correct him. And, if he’s being honest, he’s grown to love the name.

“Yeah, baby?”

“Did you know that you can count the rings on a painted turtle to find it’s age? Just like a tree!”

“Huh, I didn’t know that.”

“Uncle Sam told me.”

Dean catches Jack’s eye in the rearview mirror and makes a kissy face. Jack giggles before making one back, exaggerating it with a loud smack.

Cas smiles at the exchange, reaching over to grab Dean’s hand.

“Uh, buddy,” Dean starts. “Don’t know if you realized but that was the yoga studio we just drove by.”

“Was it?” Cas says airily.

Dean squints, confused. “Yeah, are you lost?”

“Nope, I know exactly where I’m going.”

Dean gives Cas another look of confusion but Cas only shrugs and turns his attention back to the road.

About 15 more minutes pass of Cas and Jack singing along to Taylor Swift, before they pull into a secluded park on the outskirts of town.

“Did they relocate the yoga class to the park?” Dean asks.

Cas opens his door and slides out without a response. He quickly rounds the car to pry open the back door and release Jack from his car seat.

“Are you coming?”

Dean, who remains confused, opens his own door and steps out onto the pavement. Immediately after exiting the car, Dean hears the unmistakable laughter of Rowena.

“Cas, what the h- heck?” Dean questions, catching his profanity.

Cas walks a short distance ahead of him, staying uncharacteristically quiet. Jack is propped on Cas’ hip, excitedly looking toward a group of trees that keep most of the park out of view from the parking lot.

Dean picks up his speed in an attempt to catch up with Cas as they round the trees. To Dean’s surprise, Cas stops a few feet ahead of him.

“Dude, if i didn’t know any better, I’d think you were using our child as bait to lure me to the woods and murder me.” Dean says, closing the distance between himself and his family.

Dean takes the last few steps around the small group of trees, where the park opens up into a large grassy field.

That’s when he sees it.

“Surprise, momma!” Jack exclaims, reaching for Dean.

“Wha-, what?” Dean says quietly, taking in the scene in front of him.

His family is gathered, spread out on blankets in the grass. There’s a projector casting light onto the back wall of a small white shelter sitting on the edge of the field. Everyone turns at the sound of Jack’s exclamation. Sam and Eileen are sat crisscross on a blue and white checkered blanket, Rowena laid out next to them. Charlie, Claire, and Kaia are lounging on a massive throw blanket adorned with tiny Marvel characters. There’s another large yellow blanket spread out next to them, the one with the bumblebees that Jack loves.

“Surprise, honey.” Cas says, momentarily resting his chin on Dean’s shoulder before pressing a kiss to the side of his neck.

“You did this for me?” He asks incredulously.

“Well, we all know how much you cherish movie night, so Sam and I thought it would be nice to surprise you with a movie night in the park.”

Dean can hardly speak, his eyes betraying him by welling up with tears. He watches as all the people he loves wave him over excitedly.

“Shall we?” Cas asks, motioning toward the group.

Jack wriggles free of Cas’ arms and makes a breakaway, running full force toward Sammy before he crashes abruptly into his lap. Sam recovers from the collision quickly, tickling Jack’s stomach and pressing sloppy kisses to his face.

“God, old man. Are you done crying yet?” Claire shouts across the few hundred feet where Dean remains frozen. “This movie ain’t gonna watch itself.”

Dean laughs then, it’s wet with emotion, his chest seemingly overflowing with love.

Cas loops their arms together, leaning in for a chaste press of lips. “C’mon, I’m pretty sure Charlie brought Empire Strikes Back.”

Dean concedes, allowing Cas to pull him toward their ragtag family.

Movie night is sacred, not because of the overly buttery popcorn and outrageously unhealthy snacks, not because of the films they’ve watched and watched again, but because it brings everyone together. One family, haphazardly stretched out on blankets or couches, snuggling close, laughing together at shitty jokes or quoting lines from movies seen far too many times. It’s loud, far too loud considering the activity, it’s filled with love, and it’s sacred.

Dean: I’m going to stay in monster hell for months even after I have a way to escape just to find Cas. I prayed to Cas every night. I’m not leaving here without Cas. Cas: I wonder if Dean loves me

Dean: I was so traumatized about losing Cas in Purgatory, my brain made up false memories so I could blame myself rather than dealing with how he pushed me away because he felt he needed to do penance and stay in monster hell.

Cas: Unfortunately I believe my crush on Dean is one-sided. I will nobly pine forever.

Dean: I’m going to yellow crayon Cas down from brainwashing, on my knees to show my love, and tell him how much I love him. The original script draft is going to say “I love you” but it will be changed during filming.

Cas: But does Dean love me?? 

Dean: I’m going to invite Cas out for a cheeseburger date.

Cas: Not now Dean we’re very busy with serious angel business. 

Dean: I’m going to kick a door down, after racing frantically to find Cas across several states, torturing demons, just to get here in time to save him, only to be too late and I’m going to cry out Cas’s name and my voice will shake with emotion and when it turns out he’s okay I’m going to yell at him for scaring me.

Cas: I should probably continue to  repress more, for I am in love with someone who is not in love with me

Dean: Despite being under the influence of a magic curse mark that makes me uncharacteristically violent, I won’t be able to kill Cas, because the love between us is so strong.

Cas: But does he love me…*pines*

Dean: When Cas is under a magic spell that brainwashes him into attacking me I’m going to fend him off without hurting him and when he collapses as he’s freed from the magic spell, I’m going to keep touching him and cradle his face in my hands and stare at him with worry and love and tenderness.

Cas: Love is ineffable, it is enough just to love, even if Dean doesn’t love me back.

Dean: Cas is possessed by Lucifer, this is awful, I’m going to spend half a season on a mission to save Cas, and the divine feminine is literally going to use Cas’s heart to triangulate on my location.

Cas: Oh, the plight of an angel helplessly in love with a human. 

Dean: I’m going to act jealous when Cas’s ex is in town and refuse to give up on him when he’s dying. Again.

Cas: I’m going to tell Dean I love him only when I’m dying so I don’t have to deal with the consequences of my words.

Dean: Cas and I are going to break up like an old married couple having a divorce and I’ll lash out in my hurt because God was messing with my life and I don’t know what’s real any more what if what’s between me and Cas was never real this is the worst thing ever FML.

Cas: Dean no longer cares about me. I’lll just go now.

Dean: I’m going to take Cas’s calls even though I supposedly am done with him and I’m going to accept him back despite our conflicts not being resolved. Then during our return trip in Purgatory I’m going to fall to my knees, praying and crying, because I’m scared I’m going to lose him forever, again.

Cas: Okay I actually heard that. But I don’t know if Dean loves me back.

Dean: I’m going to act like Cas is my husband and I’m so relieved that we reconciled after a trial separation.

Cas: I must save Dean from Death personified, so I’m going to give myself up to the deal I made to save the son we raised together and summon The Empty to take me by fully confessing the immense depth of my love for Dean even though he doesn’t love me back and then die. Again. So I don’t have to deal with the consequences of my words.

Dean: *sobbing on the floor* FML. Cas: Time to remake heaven for Dean, who I shall pine over forever.

this past week has been so wild in the supernatural fandom, here are my wildest predictions for the next week:

- Jared finally breaks and tells us what he really thinks about the finale. On a completely unrelated note, Walker gets canceled.

- some journalist reveals that Misha is secretly suing the CW for the rights to the show

- Dabb tweets something negative about the backlash and ends up deleting his twitter

- the Japanese dub for The Confession Scene has Dean asking Cas for a kiss goodbye

- Bobo Berens "accidentally" tweets the full shooting script of the confession scene

- Kripke is revealed as the person who included the reciprocation in the spanish dubbing script

- a crew member posts a selfie with Misha from the last day of shooting, confirming he was there

- somebody leaks the video Jensen took on set onto tumblr but it only gets 5 notes
