The Happy Accidents challenge for March was to interpret a screencap from a movie in our own style (which I don't have). I chose this scene from Kiki's delivery service where she runs into an alley and ditches Tombo by flying off on her broom after meeting him for the first time. I really liked the deliberate vertical composition of the scene which struck me immediately. Unfortunately I messed up the perspective and general accuracy to the scene pretty badly, plushaving had only an afternoon and a half to work on this (through my own fault) I had to rush a lot of it, which I think shows. But I also learned a lot about painting and how to deal with colors, and I got a newfound appreciation to how much goes into just a single background painting that we don't even really see for more than a few seconds. But working on this virtually all day non-stop left me feeling really grumpy about this so I'll go to bed now. My interpretation involved using bleaker/more realistic colors than the cartoonish palette of the show, and to exaggerate some environmental effects and simplifications.

Pony version, because why cash in on only one meme when you can cash in on two? Enjoy.

Corona-chan singing Huo Hong De Sa Ri Lang. You’re not a real fan if you don’t know where this song is from.
This is the first art meme I finally got in on, too bad I missed out on the toilet paper meme. Hopefully more content to follow now that the art workshop is closed and I’m basically stuck at home.

First time I draw my own thing in months and of course it’s an edgy shitpost. And all it took was a global pandemic to force me to work from home.
I originally finished this on Sunday but then I realized the drawing had so many anatomical issues and a messed up face that I decided to quickly fix those before publishing, so here we are. Original pic and pony version coming soon.

I promised content today but it may be a couple hours late.

I also started to draw in my sketchbook during commutes (commuting takes up a lot of my day), here’s some of what that produced, not necessarily in chronological order. Actual content coming tomorrow, get hyp!

Aha, more studies! Not a lot though, and this will be the last one for a while, since the art school closed indefinitely.

And this concludes our catch-up on our studies. This post marks my introduction to pastel chalks, which so far I’m enjoying much more than color painting. There are also a couple pieces in this one that I’m fond of. Actual content coming soon!

Starting off 2020 with these wonderful studies. I continued to work on my interior drawing skills, which no longer look like someone set the FoV to 20. My color paintings also finally started to look a bit more like actual paintings.

I got a frustrating portrait and painting in, and a more spacious interior study where I sacrificed including more in the scene in favor of not squishing everything together and giving more or less accurate proportions to everything. I also created two figure studies that I’m really proud of, especially how they turned out from such extreme angles! And this marks the end of 2019! After this came the winter break (and my Christmas vacation), during which I tried to assemble my brand spankin’ new computer! However, it wouldn’t turn on. After spending two days testing, disassembling and reassembling the hardware, I decided to hook the known working power supply from my old computer into the new one. This is more painful than it sounds, as it takes at least 30 minutes and unplugging a 24-pin ATX power plug requires pulling hard on the sharp edged connector for five minutes, which is hell on your fingers. My new PC posted with the old power supply, but my old PC wouldn’t post with my new power supply. Diagnosis: Dud PSU. So I had to take money out of my savings to go buy a new PSU and take the old one to be replaced. That PSU got replaced about a week ago, so I’m damn glad I got a new one immediately. Today my new PC is up and running and it’s going great!

More adventures in figure drawing, painting and interior spaces! Around this time I did a lot of boring figures mostly, so I’m skipping over those here since they are mostly exceedingly boring. I’m showing some of the most exciting ones though, here I started to somewhat discover a shading style that I started to like, although it’s till very messy. My paintings have started to somewhat clean up at this point as well, and my interior spaces have started to very slowly improve, zoom out, and stop bunching the elements together.

Time for more studies! This time more painting, and a new challenger enters the arena: Interior space studies! Starting these was really enjoyable, as not only did I get to practice my perspective skills, but also my skills in quickly drawing many figures who are not only moving around, but sometimes will completely switch places, so you have to draw them in their original pose while looking at them from a different angle, all while they’re moving! Great stuff.
I had an obvious weakness going in, but I started making a concerted effort to improve upon it soon after.

Part three of the study dump! We had the same guy for a model for a lot of the time, but at least it gave me ample opportunity to explore my shading game.
Especially on the later ones, you can see it kind of reverting into its old messy self, which I didn’t like at all.

Here’s part two of the study dump! Looking back on it now I did seem to improve quite a bit, especially in the painting department. Although I still suck at painting.

Here’s a recap of some of the studies I’ve been doing since I realized I haven’t been posting on here for a few months. I’ll be posting all of that in the coming days. I’ve also been busy with working on a little something for the Happy Accidents Discord server, but that’s nearing completion so I’ll be posting some actual content (besides studies) after that soon!

Throughout her life, fate has thrown many obstacles her way, she was mocked and bullied behind her back in school, which was compounded by her several mishaps and accidents, one of which left her school uniform permanently stained. She chose to keep wearing her stained outfit despite the mockery it earned her, and serenely handled every flower bouquet placed and hateful message scratched on her desk. Her serene and wise aura despite all her hardships, which slowly but surely earned her popularity and respect among a few in her school. They started asking her questions, which she was more than glad to answer. This was all by design. Deep inside, she burned with fiery hatred and resentment at the deep and unthinkable cruelty life had subjected her to. She spent her nights reading on philosophy and religion. She combined eastern and western religions into her own personal philosophy with a sick twist - one is to voluntarily suffer hardships and tolerate malevolence not so one may forgive one’s aggressors, but rather, the point is to goad others into being as evil towards one as possible, so that the greater just punishment may be inflicted. She wanted to suffer at the hands of others as much as possible so that she, with divine permission, may exact her revenge upon all who ever wronged her. Graduating high school, she goes on to become the leader of one of the most notorious terrorist cults in the country. The Happy Accidents Discord server’s monthly challenge for September was to generate a waifu using https://waifulabs.com/ and paint a portrait of her. Making up a dumb character and cliched edgy backstory behind a character was entirely optional.

I really liked how these two turned out, but now I'm out of ink! I ordered a new set of supplies which hopefully will arrive in time.
