Cold being vulnerable feels like such a weird idea to me

Like. I know it’s not impossible. But like I have a bit of a hard time imagining Cold being vulnerable. Cause like, his emotionless front is a shield to him. Not dwelling on his emotions is how he’s able to keep on going, I think. He’s a hard shell to crack. He’s also like. Really detached regarding his own emotions. He is not in touch with it at all.

I kinda wanna see your takes on how to write a vulnerable Cold, cause I’m having a hard time imagining that.

what do you think overall of HEA? Both the route and her character and how the fandom thinks of her?

So... I kinda feel bad saying this considering how so many people felt so emotionally destroyed by HEA and Tony saying how it's probably the best thing he ever wrote and all that, but... HEA as a route is okay. It's nice. But just that.

It's hard for me to explain why, exactly, I don't feel particularly enthusiastic about this route. Maybe I'm just not the right audience for it. Maybe the whole thing about faking a married life is what puts me off from liking it more, I don't know. Every Chapter showcases a type of relationship your player can have with the Princess, but I see HEA less from the perspective of the (dying) relationship and more for the message that, sometimes, our desires mold who we are in such a way that, in the occasion we finally manage to get what we want - what we believe we want - and find out it's not all that, our response to this disappointment is basically to hide it away and cling to what we got because it can't be that bad, right? You wanted this, you fought for this, you poured your identity on the concept of achieving your desire, this is supposed to be the reward for all your struggle. It has to feel good. Maybe you just need a little more time to let the goodness of it sink in... Yeah, maybe you just need more time. Probably. Hopefully. Please-

The dance scene at the end of it is quite sweet, but I also think it's too... how should I put it, I think it's too easily earned? I dunno, I think the player should really pour more work into getting that final farewell (and it is a farewell, I don't see why some people think you two are "rekindling your relationship", no man, you two are going to the divorce lawyer after that) . Excellent soundtrack, tho.

As for the Princess herself... Boy, how I pity her. She's what many women were and are told they should strive to be: the center piece of the household, the eternally beautiful lover, the compliant wife, the one that keeps it all together, the Light of the Family. You took a shackle from her wrist and proceeded to decorate her neck with another, and she still tried to make the best out of it, still tried to see how beautiful it was, how grateful she should be for having it, because this is what she wanted, right? She just didn't know it.

She should be at the club, man.

On a final note, call me a madman if you will, but can I say how much the Princess in HEA reminds me of Voice of the Cold? The Cold is a disillusioned reflection of the player's detached yet dutiful violence; you believed the Narrator wholeheartedly and did everything "perfectly"... and then proceeded to be rewarded with an eternity of blissful, boring blur, completely isolated from anyone. HEA is a disillusioned reflection of the sweet and dutiful Damsel, who did everything "perfectly"... and then also proceeded to be rewarded with an eternity of blissful, boring blur, isolated from the one she cared about even when they're in the same room. Both of them numb themselves to their own suffering and passively accept whatever is given to them while trying to make their best out of it. They probably see the same therapist.

a reason I like to make Cold a very picky eater and sensitive to certain sensory stuff (besides projection) is because I just find it really funny to make the guy who's all like "Sensations are all just the same. Hi I just wanted to say THANK YOU for calling out fandom misogyny my goodness. Very tired of being like. An alarmingly underwhelming number of people who has very little interest in most of the Voices and much love for the Princess in all her complexities. Especially as a Thorn fan tbh it gets really tiring watching folks strip down complex characters into just waifu bait??? Or a Beast fan when folks can’t see past the vore jokes on her character to understand the mastermind she truly is? The fandom’s understanding of abuse victimhood and survivors is RANCID and it’s about time someone said as much.

It's hard. I understand that feeling of like, wanting to love and be loved by the princess, so of course you focus On the parts that are the most loving, and on the affection that's there. I try not to judge people when I feel like they're "softening" the princesses, because a lot of times it's just that they're showcasing the softest side of her even though they know the brutal, hard reality exists-this is especially the case for a lot of Den fans, I feel like. I myself am guilty of focusing on Fury's characterization in the leave ending like she doesn't spend most of her time on screen brutally ripping us to pieces.

HEA/Damsel fans are like. The most guilty of this. She would never be a tradwife. Like. Me when I'm in a "missing the point" competition and my opponent is someone named "#1 Damsel Lover" on discord. I'm especially sick of edits where people paste Damsel's face/personality on a "hotter" princess like Adversary, like...eugh. No. They're their own fucking people, for one, and for two, if you need a "soft" face and a submissive personality to the point of being a major character flaw to love a woman, I don't think you love her.

The vore thing in particular is like...ugh. It's so. It's nuanced, right. Because while it wasn't intended to Be vore or Be sexy by the artist/writer, it IS the act depicted in vore fetish fiction, and it IS appealing to vore fans for the same reason vore is. It is explicitly meant to be intimate because the two of you are being combined through digestion, because she is consuming you and making you into her. So it's not intended to Be vore, but it's also not shocking to me at all that the vore community latched onto it/Beast at all-the Beast chapter literally depicts digestion in an intimate and even romantic way. I don't think it's necessarily wrong to find the sexy in things unintended to be sexy, especially since Abby Howard herself said that it's not wrong to find anything in StP hot, she put it there for us. but i do think it goes against the core themes of the Beast's route to Solely look at the digestion scene and to view it from a Solely sexy angle, and good GOD, the joke is SO OLD. IT'S SO OLD. DO PEOPLE EVEN KNOW HOW MANY TIMES THE VORE JOKE HAS BEEN MADE ABOUT HER ROUTE IT'S NOT FUNNY ANYMORE IT WAS BARELY FUNNY TO BEGIN WITH I-SCREAMSSSSS

i don't personally read a lot of the dynamics in StP as abusive, mostly because people try to apply it to fucking. Adversary. a completely consensual situation between two people for whom death literally does not fucking matter. And even when it DOES apply, people focus on it to the point of ignoring other themes of the route-looking at you, Tower/Moment of Clarity. But there's totally a double standard. Tower/Nightmare defenders are relatively rare, and then with HEA, where it's explicitly US as the controlling/abusive element, people literally blame Smitten...and then defend Smitten. :/ HELLO. it's so dark in here.

literally any willingness to admit these characters are Nuanced and have Flaws and that they have reasons for having these flaws would go a long way but that'd require treating the Tower/Nightmare as human beings and that's too much to ask for a lot of people lmao.

like even if you want to SOLELY view their routes through the lens of "evil abusive woman" and ignore the ways you've pushed her to that point + the other themes their routes are dealing with. the horrifying reality is that abusers are like. People. Who believe themselves to be in the right and who have issues themselves. A refusal to engage with that does nothing to actually help abuse victims, who often stay with their abusers Because...their abusers Are People. with their own issues and complexities. like it's hard as hell to get out of a situation like that when you can't even conceptualize your abuse as abuse because abusers aren't like that, they aren't in pain like that, they aren't kind and caring like that!

but at the end of the day it's not Actually about examining abusive relationships/dynamics. It's an excuse to hate on a woman that's too confident and too strong and too mean to the guy who just stabbed her or abandoned her to be locked in a basement forever. If it actually WAS about these women being abusive, we'd see more people get into that, but it's not. It's about Broken as a perfect little victim and about a convenient excuse to hate on someone they don't find attractive because she's not Waifu enough for them.

anyways. i'm attached to these women. i'm attached to the weird and complex and violent and loving and contradictory and beautiful relationship between the long quiet and the princesses. i am. horny. sometimes. so i get where people come from when they talk about their favorite princesses as Wife and whatnot. but also is she really your wife if you have to recharacterize or redesign her in all of your art lmao

i think cold would be such an insomniac …. The process of trying to fall asleep is so so boring and he just doesn’t bother ! he loves it when he gets to sleep for ten hours once a year but that just never happens often . also he just keeps waking up for no reason after two hours . Naps twice a day at best . Takes people a long time to realize he just does not sleep

In general, while I do think Princess/TLQ are permanent partners, they're also not...human. they certainly act human, but they don't carry the same societal baggage that we get saddled either by viruses of being born surrounded by other humans.

And then "marriage" as a concept is one that is so vastly different in so many cultures and time periods, and at least for the kinds of marriages I'm familiar with, there are a Lot of benefits for abusive partners and Especially men to obtain legal and financial power over their partner through marriage. Like, so much of marriage, on top of its symbolic and romantic value, is also its legal and financial ones, as well as social positioning/maneuvering-"wife" carries more weight than "girlfriend", serves as a status symbol. I don't think the Princess and TLQ would really care for that.

HEA doesn't touch on the complicated socioeconomic issues that come with marriage, especially traditional/heterosexual marriage, but it does touch on so much of the domestic unhappiness that comes with it, especially in regards to how you, the player, and the Smitten keep her in this unhappy, stale situation she's Supposed to be happy with. Opportunist even calls her "our queenly wife."

So like on top of marriage being a distinctly human construct/invention I'm not sure those two would vibe with when they can literally merge their souls together at any given moment. HEA in particular would fucking hate it. She's already Been trapped with a partner in a situation all too similar to the Traditional marriage. I could see arguments for other princesses. for a modern-AU Prisoner using marriage for tax benefits and secretly being delighted when she signs the papers, for Tower or Nightmare to make the player legally her pet in a similar fashion, for the Wounded Wild to accept it...

Never HEA. And yet the majority of StP marriage content is HEA, because she's their favorite and she's wife. Never mind how much she hated it. Never mind that her whole route is about how much she hated it. She's wife! We love her! She loves us! Of course she's marry us, there's no other option! We HAVE to symbolically own her and tie her to us forever! Right???

I think Smitten and Cold would like. Not really get along. Especially at the beginning. (Well. Mostly on Smitten’s part)

Cause like. A lot of their ideologies clash with each other. Smitten is all about emotion and Cold thinks that emotions don’t matter. Smitten is all about belief while Cold sees things as they are.

Smitten at the beginning would side eye Cold a lot. Since Smitten’s main language to understand someone is through affection and emotion, he’s gonna get frustrated at Cold cause he just can’t understand him. The easier option for Smitten to react to him is to just. Label him. His hatred and his frustrations ultimately came from his own feelings and frustrations of not being able to understand and connect with him.

Cause I imagine at that point Smitten is able to find a common ground for all of the other voices, even Skeptic, someone else Smitten has a lot of opposing ideals with. But they were still able to connect emotionally.

Cold, at the meantime, has a language of violence. He instinctively understands violence, and that was what he was taught. He suppresses his own emotions in order to not be vulnerable or to dwell too much on the past in order for him to continue forward. He wants to feel something through that violence. And it’s through violence that he’s able to understand Fury.

So basically, Smitten’s frustrations of not being able to understand Cold is Cold’s language for connection. It’s literally the miscommunication trope. They would have a fight similar to that one scene in A Silent Voice, where one of them is using violence against another because of their frustrations of not being able to understand the other person.

Man.

And then the rest is just gonna be free flow
