Dear @markrober Over the last few days since your video about your autistic son, I have been through all of the emotions. I've felt happy that a big YouTuber is doing something relating to autism. I've felt sadness finding out that the charity choice is one of controversy (both past and present). I've felt anger that the event which is about autistic people doesn't have autistic people involved. But lastly, after reflecting, I feel like this event makes autistic people to be like a pity project or that we can't succeed by normal conventions. Let me say to you that I wish you luck with the event but also know that autistic people like myself can succeed. It may not be to societies expectations but that expectation sets autistic people up to fail. For example I'm a 28yo guy from the UK. Diagnosed aged 5 and people may have thought I wouldn't succeed or feel like I was a lost cause. All the skills that people like yourself find easy, I had to learn those and keep trying to catch up. But I'm not asking for pity but to say that despite my challenges, for the past few years I've made it my mission to help autistic people and their families with videos about autism and the autistic experience. To help young people feel less alone, to find someone they can relate to and know they are awesome for being them. For autistic people to know they are not lost causes and know that they can succeed because of who they are, not in spite of their autism. My hope is to see autism in the mainstream or even in the online space where it's not a charity cash cow. But it's an opportunity for autistic voices to actually be heard, both adults and kids. If it's a charity related that it goes to autistic people in a impactful, non-harmful way. Please understand I hate to see the community fight and tore itself over this but know that this must change! Anyways thank you for reading and I hope things will change for people like me sooner rather than later. ♥️ https://www.instagram.com/p/CN8Yx-OMDpa/?igshid=16n5jnjqc8pqq

Hi guys! This is the first time in two days that I've picked up my phone and gone onto social media... I must be honest, I haven't missed it. It's been nice to unplug and get away from the toxicity of Twitter, the filtered photos of Instagram and just the mess that is Facebook. It's become obvious that I've been running of fumes with my creativity and lacking the drive to film. But also as the above suggests, I've been having the internal battle with social media. All of this made me think I'm not good enough and thinking that I have to do x thing to get anywhere with my advocacy work. Like I have to constantly fight to stay relevant and to stay in the public consciousness. I'm going to be truthful, I have been feeling for a long time now that I have to do what others want. Say the right thing online to please people. Make the right kind of video to get engagement. Having to follow people even when I don't agree with their methods... Honestly it's exhausting and it's all BS. For the past two days, I have allowed myself to be free on all of this & it's been great. It's the happiest I've felt in ages. I haven't looked at my YouTube stuff in about 5 days which is a long time for me and it's been so liberating. So with videos etc... There won't be a video on Tuesday or the week after. I'll be back when I'm back. It's definitely not me stepping away forever but know that I'm doing what feels right for me now. If you're annoyed then I understand but also understand that I'm also a human being with limits. I talk about autism stuff which helps people but I'm also autistic myself, people need to understand that autistic creators are #ActuallyAutistic too and should never be judged to say they need to step away. So anyways thanks for coming to my inner headspace TED talk and I'll catch you guys later 💛 #FeelingGood https://www.instagram.com/p/CNifFBpsPna/?igshid=jmrey5yexd32

Waiting for the bus home once again and wanted to hop on here to chat about how being autistic made travelling independent tricky and some things that help me on the daily. The struggles: Anxiety due to lateness Getting the right bus/train etc If a new route, knowing where to get on and off When it turns up, knowing what kind of ticket to ask for During non-pandemic times, getting a seat/dealing with the amount of people on the bus (This is the main one for me that's hard to tackle). The noise of the bus (Especially where I live, the buses tend to be really old and therefore noisy af 🤣) Things that have helped me and may help you: Lateness - If your bus is late or haven't arrived at the time on the timetable, try to distract yourself i.e. music is my go to. But also if you use a certain company, I'd suggest download their app (if they have one). I use Arriva and they have a map to show you where buses are in real(ISH) time in the app. Getting the right bus/knowing the route - For this, definitely have a look at the timetable then maybe Google the route. I love using maps as I'm visual af. But take a note of the bus number/letter for reference. Again if there is an app with your bus company, use it. Arriva have this where if you click on a bus, it shows you the route that his takes. Knowing what kind of ticket - Honestly this kind of thing is confusing and also the less interaction I have to do with other people the better 🤣 I use e-tickets via the Arriva app (this isn't a plug for them btw). Getting a seat & noise - For the noise, I'll put my earphones/headphones in blasting some obscure rock band... Or some cheesy pop because you get hooked 😂. For the space thing, it's honestly something that's hard as it's properly situational. I would try to get a seat away from people if you can. If you can't and make it hard, again try to distract yourself. Anyways hope this helps 🙂 #autismacceptance #autismacceptancemonth #arriva #arrivabus #autismpride #ActuallyAutistic #autismwarrior #autisticpride #autismtools #autismlife (at Durham, Durham) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNXydfdMvDk/?igshid=6o6idrzylkgd

🌟 How To Support Autistic People AFTER Autism Awareness Month - World Autism Awareness Week 2021 🌟
Video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/Ifpdvd6QmWU
In this video, I go into how to support autistic people after autism awareness month. With World Autism Awareness Week 2021 falling in April, it got me thinking about the general public and how to support autistic people throughout the course of the year, not just during world autism awareness month. So with this in mind, I came up with a few ideas on how to support autistic people in general but for loved ones.
