the writing behind Silco and Jinx’s relationship is so well done, and makes everything completely uncomfortable revolving them.
people latch onto the fatherly part of Silco while ignoring the purpose that it serves. They’re using that bond of father and daughter to demonstrate the lack of boundaries that should define their relationship. it constantly reminds the audience that even with the fact Silco cares for her, he is actively preying on her because of her lack of stability. He is not a good father, but he is a loving one; because of how he sees himself in her.
plus with the added information from S2, Silco and Jinx bonding over their almost one to one backstory is more fodder for their enmeshment. They relate so heavily to eachother, Silco projects completely on her. Jinx even says it herself, Silco is convinced that he made “Jinx” because that was his goal, making her identity to fit alongside his own.
Hopefully the Silco stans understand me here, I enjoy his writing and character too, he’s just not a good person and that’s alright— it’s compelling.

“Our Hextech Dream”
I am a sucker for the trope of "separated by ideology so they can never be together, but never being able to give up on the person".
Jayce and Viktor both believed in Hextech, but diverged when it came to its use. There's an irony to it in that the Hextech dream that brought them together is also what tears them apart.
Tumblr media
Viktor has always seeked to use Hextech to improve lives. He tells us this from the beginning: "Scientists seek discoveries. Ways to make the world a better place".
Viktor is steadfast in his morals. When it's clear that Hextech has the capability to cause harm (see: Sky), he is willing to walk away from it and accept his death. Then when he is brought back to life against his will, he sets out to Zaun to put an end to needless pain and suffering. The method is questionable, yes, and perhaps blinded by Viktor's guilt of failing to do good in the pursuit of great. But it is still Viktor.
Jayce on the other hand, has the morals of a slippery slope. What's interesting about Jayce is his ideals are inherently tied to defending the people he loves. It's in his title even-- Jayce, The Defender of Tomorrow.
Because Jayce's ideals are so tied to protecting and supporting his loved ones, his morals live on a sliding scale that are never fully his, but instead intrinsically tethered to those he loves.
When he was partners with Viktor was when their ideals were most in sync, and also when Jayce’s motivations most strongly reflected his own. Their inventions to improve the lives of laborers reflected the Talis family dream: “put hammers in the hands of people”. It also reflected Viktor’s to make the world a better place, converging into their shared dream of “giving Hextech to the people”.
But that which inspires us to our greatest good is also the cause of our greatest evil.
When Jayce betrayed Heimerdinger to continue their Hextech research, it was for the chance of finding a cure for Viktor in Hextech. When Jayce shook hands with the other council members, it reflected his goal to maintain support and funding for their Hextech research: but it also reflected Mel’s political agenda. When he forged Hextech weapons, his morals reflected his desire to protect his loved ones from the threat of “terrorism": but it also reflected Mel’s desire to weaponise Hextech; and Caitlyn’s vendetta for revenge against Jinx.
The slippery slope of morality describes how small ethical infractions can lead to bigger ethical missteps. Jayce justifies minor infractions (creating weapons to protect the people I love) and fails to see the bigger ethical consequences that extend from them (the harming of innocent Zaunites).
One of Jayce's biggest failings is that he is often short-sighted and goes in guns blazing. There's an element of vanity-- to be seen as "good" or "the hero"; that craving for validation and praise. Inside Jayce, there is still that naive young boy who drew himself as a hero with a hammer.
Tumblr media
For his part, Jayce realizes his missteps and does set out to correct them, though as we see he is often too late.
When it comes to their divorce in ideals, Viktor, who has the renewed clarity from having a second chance at life, is able to set aside his affections from Jayce to walk away. Jayce... takes it a bit harder.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Still, despite their separate paths, there is always that longing for their partner back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Their Hextech dream that brought them together is also what tears them apart.
It's fitting then, that in the end, they both choose to destroy it together.
Tumblr media
And so, they give up on their Hextech dream. And they choose each other.

When it comes to Viktor’s insecurities and shame, I often think it was just as bad intense for him throughout s1, he was able to stave it off by projecting as much more confident as he is. But by the later acts, the thoughts take hold because he no longer has the energy to fight it off.
It’s essentially masking, and he’s burned out everything in himself, finally revealing what was festering underneath for all of those years because he never learned how to deal with it, except for bottling it up. And of course the shimmer giving him a glimpse of what he could’ve had, only makes the desperation worse.
It creates the stage for his dissent to the alternative route to achieving his original dream, achieving “perfection.” unlike Jayce, his goal of helping people is more consistent. This is simply how it derails so easily, in correspondence to his condition’s effects on his mental state.

Jinx not scolding or reprimanding Isha for going out on their own when finding them in Stillwater is incredibly special to me. She doesn’t need to because they know how important they are to eachother already! Instead Jinx makes a joke to ease the tension & comfort them immediately because Isha looks scared, and ashamed, the same way Powder did so many times.

someone on twitter mentioned that they didn’t like Jinx and Vi being unable to coexist peacefully and was qrted something akin to “well it’s a doomed sister narrative,” but the whole theme of s1 was violence in the absence of compassion / love, and s2 was breaking that cycle.
While it could’ve been done in a less rushed manner, etc… various other improvements, it makes sense for people to be confused on why Vi and Jinx’s ending went the way it did, not getting the siblings that they wanted— it’s often a problem in shows dealing with morally grey and dysfunctional people.
When to allow them to heal, the pacing of that, so on, are not easy to decide especially with the cuts they had to make. I think it could’ve been quite beautiful for the doomed narrative to be healed through the presence of love, returning back to general theme of s1.
They couldn’t change their beginning, because of Piltover’s perpetuation of the poverty and discrimination in Zaun, but in the end they break that cycle because they no longer blame themselves or eachother for something they couldn’t fix or never understood in the first place despite how Piltover pits them against eachother.

I understand why people would think that Isha and Jinx’s relationship is either strictly sibling, or mother/daughter but to me it’s both from their perspectives. They give eachother what they needed, or lost. For Isha, Jinx is most likely the closest thing to a parental figure for them, which is why they would call her “mama.” Meanwhile for Jinx, they mend the broken sibling bond that she lost with Vi (at the time.) Their bond is a “do-over” in the most important ways to them.

must be adopted in pairs
kind of obsessed with the characterization of jayce and viktor as fundamentally good people who will also go absolutely batshit insane if you separate them because theyre also ridiculously codependent to a degree that is concerning for everybody else's wellbeing. they were literally away from each other for a couple of months and almost ended the entire world

I think the reason people tend to misinterpret this scene
as Jayce actively disregarding Viktor as his partner, and demeaning their work together is because of the particular way it’s framed. He doesn’t fight it at all, respecting Viktor’s wishes, and the “Man of Progress” cup replace Vik.
The key part of this is not the fact that Jayce is doing it, however, it’s the fact that V’s insecurities and self-deprecating nature (which is most likely worsening with his condition) about how he would be perceived by the whole of Piltover swallow him whole.
It’s another large facet of his descent into trying to “fix” himself. And it makes perfect sense for him to have these thoughts because a majority of Piltover would doubt him, or belittle, or infantilize him in some way. The embodiment of Piltover’s reaction to Viktor, that the audience sees, would be Mel. The way she outright ignores his existence and only focuses on / addresses Jayce probably confirms this to Viktor that it would be a bad idea for him to be a public representative of Hextech.
meanwhile Jayce would happily support him in any way possible, and this action includes that. He takes up these responsibilities as an act of love, and trying his best to show his care by being the face of their work. We simply don’t see his perspective of this scene, which makes him look oblivious. And to an extent he is, because he has never had to fight off the title or designation of being from the undercity and disabled in Piltover in that way.
anyway that’s just some of my thoughts on this scene and why people interpret it the way they do, or use it as an avenue to dislike Jayce’s character.
