Fic Writers' Retreat Works 2025

This past weekend (August 7-10, 2025) was the annual Fic Writers' Retreat and the first European Writers' Retreat, and I was fortunate enough to be a part of such an exciting and magical experience! I put up the offer during the retreat to boost the fics that everyone either wrote or started during both retreats, so here are the ones that I have found or has been enthusiastically submitted to me!!

If you were part of the 2025 retreats and have a fic that you want to promote, please let me know and I'll add it to this list!

Flash Fic 2 by @raina-at (G, 439 w. || TUMBLR || SHERLOCK FANDOM || Dancing, Undercover for a Case, Cruise Ship) – This was a prompt we all did together. We had four words, ship, money, accusation, shield. We could skip one word. I skipped shield.

Flash Fic Round I by @shirleycarlton (G, 486 w. || TUMBLR || SHERLOCK FANDOM || Crack) – So today, at our European Fic Writers' Retreat, we did a Zoom call with the Canadian retreat (which happens to take place at the same time!) We used a random number generator to choose several prompts from various lists and websites. First, you had to write a list of characters you were willing to write about, and number them. Then the random number generator tells you which ones to use. This way, I ended up with the following prompts to use: Lestrade, Mrs Turner, An argument, flight, superhero The rules were: you have 20 minutes.

Avoiding Secrets✨ by @helloliriels (G, 708 w., || TUMBLR || SHERLOCK X SANDMAN CROSSOVER || Pre-ASIP, Army John, Light Angst, Dreaming, Character Study) – John stepped into the large marble hall, gazing around in wonder at the great expanse. At one end of the vast room was a raised dais above a winding set of stairs, and out the window beyond, the stars - the stars! - too numerous to count, shone through the window brighter than they should at any time of night. He knew he must be dreaming.

Brooklyn Dust by @beccibarnes (G, 540 w. || TUMBLR || GOOD OMENS / MARVEL CROSSOVER || Steve Rogers POV, Bars/Pubs, Bartender Crowley) – I rolled Steve Rogers and Crowley as characters, which is an interesting combination in itself. Then I kinda mixed and matched the two prompts, "Protagonist visits a place of their childhood home" and "He drank life before spitting it out". But mostly I just tried to make these two meet in a believable way. Written in 15 minutes with only minor edits afterwards.

Flash Fic by @seekers-who-are-lovers (G, 366 w. || TUMBLR || RKDD FANDOM || Bombing, Tension) – The moment the rockets dropped on the Izu Islands, Toto Isshiki dragged Alice Moriarty with him, shielding her away with his jacket, running fast. He forced her to hide inside the cave nearby.

Hey! I read a brilliant fanfiction where John was able to read minds a while back and I apparently didn't bookmark it

I've been looking for ages through tags like mind reader, telepath, or psychic- and nothing seems to be the right one! I'll describe what I remember and if anyone has heard of it or knows anything similar let me know!

John can essentially hear thoughts as if they were spoken- Sherlock starts suspecting that John can hear his thoughts despite him trying to hide it. John gets nosebleeds and headaches when overwhelmed by his powers? I know that there's a scene where he's mugged in an alley and gets flashes of someone's memories. He then wakes up in a hospital and I'm pretty sure Sherlock pretends to be John's husband to stay in his room. Sherlock then proceeded to aggressively think-yell at John to annoy him into reacting and giving away the fact he's a telepath.

I don't remember much more than this but the ending was sweet and I'd love to be able to relive it

OOOOOO I am NOT 100 on this one. I thought initially it was the An Experiment in Empathy Series but John's an Empath, not a telepath. I MIGHT have it on my Magical Realism Where John is the Powerful One OR my Telepath / Empath AU Fic Lists.

That said, does anyone know which fic Nonny is actually looking for?

To Hold, To Trust, To Love by that_was_tedious (G, 829 w., 1 Ch. || BDSM Undertones, Sub Sherlock, Dom John, Fluff, Comfort No Hurt, Hand Feeding, Long-Suffering John, Implied Relationship) – After long cases, Sherlock can't be trusted to take care of himself. Which is where John comes in, making sure the detective is clean, fed and rested. If they both need a little extra closeness after near death experiences, who can blame them? Basically, Sherlock falling asleep in John's lap after a case and John being a saint as always.

looking for an old fic from many years agoi've been hunting for this one-shot i read years ago. it wasn't sexual but had D/s aspects with john as the dom and sherlock as the sub. it involved sherlock refusing to eat so john makes him get down on his knees and stay at john's feet while john coaxes him into eating. i thought it was really sweet and i'd love to reread it, but i can never find it! it was on ao3 if it sounds familiar to anyone :)

SH – :London Become Human:  Procreate on iPad Pro

BAAAHHH OKAY OKAY OKAY.

So I LOVE DBH, especially as a world setting; I just REALLY love sci-fi stories with androids in general, and the underlying “are they real because of sentience” theme really just has always been something I’ve loved as far back as my Sonic days when I wrote a whole world revolving around the in-universe robots. It’s just SO interesting, and I LOVE character studies as such, which this game does three-fold with three interesting protagonists and are affected by player choices with consequences. My favourite storyline, as y’all know, is the one of Hank and Connor, maybe because I can see a Sherlock-and-John-in-another-universe dynamic with them… WHICH is what prompted me to draw this LAST YEAR for Halloween, but it never got posted because I finished the Halloween pic (which I don’t think I’ll finish this year’s in time), so you’re getting my DBH AU pic instead. 

Y’all, I REALLY want to either read or write this AU SO bad. So Sherlock is the Android sent by Cyberlife to help the New Scotland Yard with solving the mysterious android-related homicides, and Lieutenant Jonothan “John” Watson is the alcoholic, depressed, suicidal Lieutenant assigned to the Deviant cases, and Sherlock is assigned as his partner. 

John was TOO perfect to not be in the Hank role: was once a great detective but fell off after death of his six year old daughter, turned to alcoholism and his wife Mary left him, and now he’s depressed / suicidal, and a smarmy robot comes into his life to help give him a reason to live again… Oh and because I wanted to give John a beard LOL.

Sherlock of course is in the Connor role who, through his exposure to John (and an underlying “evil” subplot of Cyberlife hoping he would become a Deviant), becomes a Deviant himself and risks his life for him.

And of course they end up together at the end, because I feel unfulfilled from the ending I got on my playthrough of DBH (there IS an ending that’s considered the “perfect” ending but my QTE abilities suck and I couldn’t get it. Hank died in my playthrough).

LISTEN I HAVE HAD THIS AU PLANNED OUT SINCE I PLAYED THE GAME 2 YEARS AGO. I have ALL the roles for the Sherlock cast filled in, I think, but the storylines would have to be trimmed up and be less convoluted to work… the Marcus storyline is still happening in the States, so I think it could still sort of work as a “takes place during the events of DBH” story. Sort of a “now it’s starting to happen in London” kind of thing, since it is implied that androids aren’t just in the States in the game. 

I need to write this story, I just… wish I was better at not-procrastinating, LOL. And I feel like it’s such a niche game that no one would read it anyway, I dunno. *shrugs* Anyone wanna collab on it LOL.

ANYWAY, I had the idea, and I drew it, and I still like it, a year later. Sherlock’s face looks weird, but whatevs. I hope you guys like it too. Little Easter Egg: Sherlock’s serial number is the date ASIP first aired, I HOPE, unless Google lied to me LOL. 

The Halloween pic MIGHT be late, so for now, you get this one LOL.

I'm looking for a particular pet play fic that is very happy (and Explicit). Sherlock takes John to puppy parties where John plays enthusiastically with other "puppies," including women and men. Sherlock doesn't seem turned on by it but he treats his role as "owner" seriously and with clear affection for John. One small detail I remember is that Sherlock puts a plate of grapes on the floor, and when John whines, reminds him his GP said to eat less cheese.

I haven’t written so many words in my life that the three-day @europeanficwritersretreat2025 has given me the chance to do that. We did two flash fics, this is the first one, to be done in 20 minutes. Together with the Canadian chapter @ficwritersretreat , there was a joint flash fiction activity using prompts via Zoom meeting using the following key words:

superhero,

drinks life and spits out the blood

The moment the rockets dropped on the Izu Islands, Toto Isshiki dragged Alice Moriarty with him, shielding her away with his jacket, running fast. He forced her to hide inside the cave nearby.

Everyone—including Ron Kamonohashi and his dad, Elliot Moriarty—was already on the boat. While Toto and Alice remained on the island, waiting in the dark, praying that the missiles had stopped pouring.

The teenager flinched from Toto’s grasp. An argument ensued.

“You have to leave me now, Toto! I’ve decided to stay here! Please leave me alone.”

“No!”

“Hah! No need to save me. You are not a superhero! Besides, I’m a psychopath! Didn’t someone tell you that? Save yourself first when you still have time!”

Toto stopped discussing with her, an absurd, murderous 17-year-old girl, the current head of the Moriarty clan. She was akin to a vampire, who drank life from humans and then spat out their blood when she thought they were not worthy of her.

Who would have thought that the clan leader of the terrifying Moriarty Family is a teenager!

She turned hysterical when the bomb hit Kisaki, the Moriarty family bodyguard, apart from witnessing her own sibling Winter took the side of their archenemy, the descendant of Sherlock Holmes, Ron, Alice knew that she was defeated.

Minutes passed, an hour perhaps, she began to wail like a child. A mix of tears and snot marred that innocent face. Toto glanced at her, but stopped himself from nearly placing his hand on her shoulder to console her.

“You are good-hearted police officer, Toto Isshiki. No wonder Ron wants to keep you. But you are an idiot!” She looked at him with her lopsided smile in between sobs. Silence.

Wait, is that the sound of a whirring helicopter?

Bzzzzzzzz.

The noise continued.

“Go, Isshiki!” She pushed him away, even kicking his shins.

The buzzing of the engine had stopped. Shouting men and women echoed from the outside.

“Come Alice! We are going to depart from here.”

Outside it was…

So bright. Toto thought.

Alice gripped Toto’s arm, she finally relented.

The ground shook followed by a deafening sound of a sudden explosion.

He and Alice were nowhere to be found.

15 min Flash Fic: Brooklyn Dust

We had a ton of options to choose from: I rolled Steve Rogers and Crowley as characters, which is an interesting combination in itself. Then I kinda mixed and matched the two prompts, "Protagonist visits a place of their childhood home" and "He drank life before spitting it out". But mostly I just tried to make these two meet in a believable way.

It looked different than Steve remembered it. Though the stink was still the same. It smelled of stale beer and old wood that had been treated with a dirty rag one too many times. He tried to make himself tiny while entering the dim bar, knowing full well that it was a hopeless endeavour. Even though he had left the shield and superhero suit at home, in the vast room, his sheer size stood out like a fire in the night.

He tried not to look too lost, feigning sovereignty while walking over to the bar, but still curiously turned his head in all directions. The pictures on the walls hadn’t changed. At least most of them. The one of the Brooklyn football team had been brought up to date, but the frame was still dirty and cracked in the same spot. Even the music was still the same. Low humming tunes that had been old-fashioned then and were hopelessly outdated now. Or had probably passed the magic mark and were considered cool and retro again nowadays.

He walked over to the bar. It was late afternoon, so the establishment was sparsely filled with a few people who had finished their shift early or never had any workplace to be to begin with. Steve felt horribly out of place in this room, which used to be so very familiar to him.

“Hi there.” The bartender had slithered over to him, silent like a shadow and dressed equally dark. His red hair could have stood out, but it was rather melting into the wooden liquor shelves behind him. He leaned one lanky elbow on the counter and gave Steve a cheeky smile. “What can I get you, Captain?”

Steve grimaced at the title and sat down on the bar stool at the far end of the counter, as far away as possible from other guests. “Just Steve, please,” he told the bartender. “And I’d take a beer, please.”

The red-haired man eyed him for a moment before he reached underneath the counter and pulled out a dusty bottle. In one fluid movement, he opened the cap and slid the open bottle across the wood. That it came to a halt exactly in front of Steve made him smirk involuntarily. And the Bartender seemed to notice.

He shot a glance at the other guests, who all seemed rather content with their drinks and then turned over again to drape himself against the counter, right opposite Steve. “What brings Captain America to this pathetic establishment?” he asked, pretending to polish a glass with a dirty rag.

“It’s not pathetic,” Steve said, took a sip of his beer, and his tongue twisted from the stale taste. “It’s…”

“Depressing?” the other one provided helpfully. “Outdated? On the verge of death?”

Steve shook his head. “It’s kind of a fond childhood memory.”

The other man’s eyebrows wandered up as he eyed him with unconcealed disbelief. “Sounds like a weird childhood you had there,” he deadpanned. When Steve shrugged, the other man offered his hand. “I’m Crowley,” he said. “And because I get paid to listen, I’m actually a very good listener.”

Steve grinned and took Crowley’s hand to shake it. “I hope you’ve brought some time.”

What does "home" even mean when you've been away from your native country for years both physically and mentally? John feels stretched thin between the unknowns of the future and worrying about Sherlock, who seems to be struggling more with letting go of the PPDC than either of them might have expected.

looking for an old fic from many years agoi've been hunting for this one-shot i read years ago. it wasn't sexual but had D/s aspects with john as the dom and sherlock as the sub. it involved sherlock refusing to eat so john makes him get down on his knees and stay at john's feet while john coaxes him into eating. i thought it was really sweet and i'd love to reread it, but i can never find it! it was on ao3 if it sounds familiar to anyone :)
