Books 14 and 15 for #ReadingChallenge2019 14: Kill Hill Carnage by Tim Meyer - 2/5 It wasn't really bad but mostly predictable, still a fun read despite. This is probably my 1st summer camp horror novel and I read it for book club. I enjoy summer camp horror but I guess more if it was in film format than as a book. I'm open to reading more from this genre though. 15: After Dark by Haruki Murakami - 4/5 This was a really fun read with an unusual 2nd person narration mixed in with Murakami's unusual style albeit this is not, as a whole, murakami-like story that I am used to. This was a great quick read that left me wanting more and it has enough creep factor to give me goose bumps... be careful of mirrors. #books #bookworm #bookstagram #murakami https://www.instagram.com/p/B1WOydzAuq3/?igshid=kkf6r1r8s4o3

Book 12 for #ReadingChallenge2019 Maas' finale for the Throne of Glass series - Kingdom of Ash. Rating: 4.5/5 In hindsight, I see issues with this final book especially with characters that had so much build up in prior books that didn't really amount to much. Then again one could argue that there is truth to it where there are people and things we put on a pedestal and once they're brought down to our level we realize they really aren't that much. But despite that, all the time I've invested into this series, I am satisfied with the ending. This is a long series spanning 8 books (including Assassin's Blade) and that end was satisfying for me. I wanted more death because that's just me but I'm glad there are deaths compared to the disappointing Court series from the same author. It's war. We expect death. And thought it was painful to read that part where one of my favorite characters died and those that were close to dying, I liked it better than noone dying at all. I now await the day I can get a print of this last book to complete my collection. I read it ebook format because I just couldn't wait anymore and our bookstores still doesn't have a copy or couldn't get me one for some reason. Oh well. Online stores here I come! #bookworm #books #bookstagram #throneofglass #kingdomofash https://www.instagram.com/p/B0xBjuHAhjk/?igshid=1tbghz6fnm4qk

Books 9-11 for #ReadingChallenge2019: 2 ebooks and 1 print. 9. Animal Farm by George Orwell - 5/5 10. Cards on the Table by Agatha Christie - 2/5 11. Gentle Man's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee - 2/5 Animal Farm was a short but very heavy read so it wasn't really one I finished quickly despite it only having a few pages. Of the classics, it seems I enjoy reading Orwell. This book is just as political, even more so actually, than 1984. Cards on the Table was my 2nd attempt at Christie. I really wanted to like her but it just isn't working between us. I'm sorry Agatha but maybe this is goodbye? It did not help at all that the book was about cards and the clues revolved heavily on the card game which I am completely clueless about. Anyone suggest a book from her that might change my mind? Who knows 3rd time could be the charm and if it still won't work then I give up. Gentle Man's Guide wasn't really that bad but I didn't like it either, I just couldn't care. I'm thinking maybe I just wasn't in the mood for it or something. #bookworm #books #bookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/B0iRqpmAfXp/?igshid=y303rvo3u7kb

Our trip had a lot of surprises from giant pandas to pink dolphins but nothing beats the randomness of meeting Julia Wong of #triplelanternscafe. We never expected to see a cafe that seemed to be in the middle of nowhere in the fishing village of Tai-O. What's even more surprising is when I expected noodles, dimsum, or sea food but the menu was pizzas and cakes! Very delicious ones at that. The place is decorated with art work from prior guests. Julia grew up in Tai-O but worked in Japan and UK where she dreamt of putting up her own cafe someday. She speaks like an anime character which was very amusing and the best part is she doesn't really care much about profit offering to give another item on the menu for free if whatever you ordered wasn't to your liking and the cafe is closed whenever she's not on the island (that would be aug-nov this year since she'll be in the UK that time). Our guide told us that we were lucky we met her because most tourists don't get to. I felt like I saw a unicorn when I saw the pink dolphins but the real unicorn here was Julia. Books 6-8 for #ReadingChallenge2019: 2 ebooks and 1 print. 6. Spilled Milk - KL Randis 5/5 7. The One - John Marrs 5/5 8. Tower of Dawn - Sarah J. Maas 4/5 Spilled Milk is a really good read that touches on the kinds of abuse and it's based on a true story. I highly recommend giving it a read as it is very informative without being preachy or sounding like a lecture. I was lucky to have randomly selected it on Amazon Prime for free along with John Marrs' The One. I've been meaning to read The One for quite some time after hearing about it here on instagram from @theguywiththebook some years ago. The premise was so interesting and it really did not disappoint! It was difficult to get a copy in my country but lucky it was free on Amazon Prime. 5 different stories that get wrapped up into one messed up whole was a very fun ride. I regret not having KoA at the ready after reading Tower of Dawn but unfortunately our bookstores doesn't have stocks anywhere. ToD had this Game of Thrones + Rebel of the Sands vibe to it so I did enjoy it. Though I didn't expect it to, I was hyped to finally read KoA, the last of the series. Crossing my fingers the next and final book will end great. #bookstagram #books #bookworm #goodreads https://www.instagram.com/p/BwtJ54kHsY2/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=3ih43rokt916

Books 3-5 for #ReadingChallenge2019 In the past few days I was able to finish 3 types of books which solidified my preference of print over everything else but the other options are also a welcomed change/convenience. 3: #99percentmine ebook by #sallythorne 3/5 4: #elevation audiobook by #stephenking 2/5 5: #headfullofghosts paperback by #paultremblay 4/5 Individual reviews up on my goodreads. 99% is my second sally thorne and my friends will not believe I actually read something like that but hey it was a fun change in pace hahaha. Elevation and Head Full of Ghosts is more up my alley but sadly Elevation is one of the few King books I don't really like and made me realize I enjoy King when he's on his lengthy novels, or as he would call it "word vomit books". Elevation was short and was just okay. Head Full of Ghosts though isn't that lengthy but it was enough to make me feel like vomiting and grossed out (in a good way). It's been a long time since I last lost sleep because of any form of horror. Thank you @ozhasbooks for gifting me a copy of head full of ghosts. :D #bookstagram #books #bookworm #bookcompanion https://www.instagram.com/p/BvOhZj0HGbQ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1130b1osid4pe

Book 2 for #ReadingChallenge2019 #TheStand by #StephenKing 5/5 馃悾 This book is massive at 1400+ pages and it took me a little more than 2 months to finish it and I've been bringing it around with me for that duration. In the course of 2 months I was attached to almost every single one of the characters, yes even the evil ones, and the pain of reading of their fate was brutal. This has to be the best (and so far the longest) of Stephen King's work that I've read so far and I want more! He wrote in his introduction that the 1st edition was shorter and this edition I have is longer. "This version is an expansion of the original." He says in the preface where he further explains that the shorter one was "made at the behest of the accounting department". King wrote a really good preface explaining about how and why the 1st ed was shorter and even mentions about movie adaptations. 馃悾 People will find the thousand pages long to be daunting but trust me, it's worth the read! The best post-apocalyptic/dystopian I've ever read! Would I read it again? From start to finish, maybe in a few years but I'll definitely be leafing through its pages from time to time rereading random chapters. #book #bookworm #bookcompanion #bookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/Bu1JGiNnvir/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=11o3faege3xj1

Another plus for ebooks: being able to read when the electricity is out. The plus for ereaders, the glare is less compared to reading on phones, tablets' or laptops. Here's Books and Tea's read along for February with the theme: "Lesser known books" which means books with less than 5000 ratings on #goodreads. This one has less than 200 and is currently free on #kindleunlimited. It sounds really interesting so this shall keep me company while the power is out. #ReturntoDyatlovPass by #JHMoncrieff #readalong #bookworm #book #ebook #BnTDiscord #bookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/BtDok0XHIZP/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=ti55zwl81tn1

It's been a long time since I've traveled by sea and it's times like this I'm glad I bought this #kindle. Thanks to Amazon's offer, I got #kindleunlimited for 3 months for only $0.99! Now I can read tons of ebooks for free while I travel. :D 馃悾 I've been seeing a lot of intriguing retellings of this book so I'm going to put King on hold while I try and finish this before the ship reaches the destined port. 馃殺 馃悾 #amazon #ebook #bookworm #book #bookcompanion #arabiannights #andrewlang https://www.instagram.com/p/BrFcwxQHJco/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1easofki12tbi

Book 13 for #ReadingChallenge2018 and #BnTDiscord July read along with the theme: Dystopian. #ThisSavageSong by #VictoriaSchwab. Rating this 4.5/5 because I really really enjoyed reading this. 馃悾 Schwab has been on my tbr for a long time seeing as so many keep recommending her works. I decided to pick it up after someone posted on the discord group that the ebook was on sale and great timing I just got my kindle that time, I bought a copy and I have no regrets. I now am super motivated to read the rest of her works! Why have I not read her sooner? 馃悾 Crossing off "no hint what it is about" for #bcph2018goals. Basing off the title I thought this was about magic and singing and probably in the victorian era (no idea why I thought that). I was so surprised when the Malchai, Corsai, and Sunai were introduced and there was war and chaos and etc. I was so not prepared for it that in the first few chapters I questioned what on earth did I get myself into haha. 馃悾 Crossing off antihero for #popsugarreadingchallenge2018 because August and Kate are gray areas for me. 馃悾 #book #bookstagram #kindle #ebook https://www.instagram.com/p/Bnf2DYPHfQc/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=h3zbn6l52tr3

Book 12 for #ReadingChallenge2018 and #BnTDiscord August read along with the theme: Translated. #NorwegianWood by #HarukiMurakami - translated from Japanese by Jay Rubin. 馃悾 Aside from Murakami, other translated books I have are the ff: 1. Battle Royale by Koushun Takami - translated from Japanese by Nathan Collins. 2. Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots by Project Itoh - translated from Japanese by Nathan Collins 3. Ink Heart by Cornelia Funke - translated from German by Anthea Bell. 4. Phantom of the Opera by Gaston leroux - translated from French by various people at Harper Collins. 5. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson - translated from Swedish by Reg Keeland 馃悾 I want read one of these in their original language someday because I believe the prose can be better appreciated in its original form. Have you read a book in its original and translated version? I want to read the tagalized editions we have but... cringe. Haha. Translating is not easy but it's doable. I wish we had better translations. 馃悾 Fun fact: in some translations, some names are changed. We discussed this over at BnT regarding Harry Potter in different languages and the name changes were amusing and how it changed the reading experience. Also, Voldemort's name. Imagine the trouble translators had to go through. 馃悾 #books #bookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/BnX7AW9hiDp/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1jf0fsj7r57vb

Book 11 for #ReadingChallenge2018: Tales from Sand and Sea by @alwynhamilton Thank you @paperdollsletter for letting me read it. The collection of short stories was enough to make me miss Amani's world and wish there was more but at the same time I'm excited to see what else the author can come up with. I have high hopes! 馃悾 These copies I got were ordered all the way from UK! So fortunate I had a cousin who was coming home from the UK just a few weeks after the release of Hero at the Fall, just in time for the order to arrive before she leaves. I didn't even care that I had multiple copies, I wanted these covers! 馃悾 #bookstagram #books #RebeloftheSands #TraitortotheThrone #HeroattheFall #AlwynHamilton https://www.instagram.com/p/BnKgCDGF5QC/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1u9idtdzmqo5i
