I would like to preface this by saying that I don’t intend to gatekeep in this post. I am talking about my experiences while growing up. People grow and change, and that’s a beautiful thing. I have more people who I can talk to about these things, more art to buy, more community!
Tw for bullying.
And now, the meat of the post.
This year has been a confusing one for me.
Fandoms I have been a part of for years are on the rise. Things like frogs and mushrooms and bats and worms and pigs that splash in the mud are being praised and loved.
It’s the year of the weird girl. All my friends are excitedly posting “#relatable” next to quotes from Wednesday.
“Omg, I was just like her! I’ve always loved this!”
No.
You didn’t.
I was actively bullied for much of my life for loving vampires, helping worms who were drowning on sidewalks on rainy days, for thinking bats were cute.
I was talked to by therapists and guidance councilors about my “unhealthy obsession” with Anne Rice because I dressed in black and daydreamed about vampires in class.
I am happy these things are trending. I can now go and get a mushroom shirt or frog mug anywhere I please. I’m no longer that isolated goth kid who is in too deep.
But it hurts me deeply to see people who made fun of me for so long insist that this is the way they have always been.
Maybe things at home were different. They felt they needed protection or they felt insecure so they picked on me. I can’t fault them for that, and I don’t blame them for doing what they needed to in order to survive.
I never say anything about it, but sometimes I want to scream.
This isn’t a major life problem. But it’s been eating at me for a while now.

Louis was that grumpy “I don’t want this animal in my house ever” dad stereotype, but mojo grew on him. Their bond made Lestat jealous at times (I don’t think Lestat is stable enough to fully handle a dog, with all the adventures and general squirrely ness)
What is your most mundane, vanilla, inconsequential VC hot take?

I’ve been thinking about this for a minute and this stance is so weird to me. It takes a lot of time, effort and skill to do any kind of work like this.
So what does Marius think of other crafts? Would he think less of someone who works from a knitting pattern or crochet book? How about someone who has written down the instructions for a tapestry because the patterns are too complex to memorize? Or another, who works ceramics in a way that has been passed down from person to person, but is not from their own head?
Artisans, I guess they are called.
Where is your line, Marius?!
Been thinking a lot about how Marius, a man who rarely made anything other than a mess, had the gall to criticize Daniel for making his toy train houses from kits instead of from scratch

My dad was dealing with some mixed feelings so I told him "In therapy when something is too complicated to do a simple 'pro and contra list' we sometimes do an excercise where you imagine all these mixed feelings around a table in some kind of conference, letting each tell their bit and you leading the debate."
and my dad didn't really respond and just stared ahead so I kept preparing lunch. Until a few minutes later when he suddenly piped up: "I am having a bad time at the conference"

The Dog is one of Goya's Black Paintings, which he painted directly onto the walls of his house sometime between 1819 and 1823 when he was in his mid-70s, living alone and suffering from acute mental and physical distress.
Greavard is so affectionate that paying it any attention will make it so happy that it'll follow you wherever you go. However, Greavard will slowly and inadvertently absorb the life-force of those around it.

CONCEPT:
a vampire/immortal character who was around when the internet was first invented and was absolutely fascinated by it
they know every single viral post, video and meme and exactly when it was posted.
they have an account on every social media to exist and they keep up with the current internet culture and are actually extremely tech savvy.
when they meet a mortal, the mortal expects them to talk like they’re from the victorian era or something, but they find that this immortal in particular is just an avid shitposter.

I noted that several actresses over the age of 18 have convincingly played the part of a much, much younger character with the assistance of makeup, costuming, and other little tricks.
The main meat of my post was speaking of Abi Monterey, a woman aged 20 playing a preteen in the second season of doom patrol.
I understand why the change was done, but it ultimately changed a very important detail to that character, which will likely be a detriment to the story.
Anyone saying Claudia needed to be aged up for any number of reasons should take a look at HBO’s doom patrol.
In the second season we are introduced to the character of Dorothy, a girl who has been shut away by her father for about 100 years for… reasons.
She’s played by a (at the time,) 20 year old woman, Abi Monterey . Throughout the season, the character is shown to “grow up” and change from being in the “real world”.
Abi performed the role very well (I’d argue masterfully), with the assistance of makeup and costuming, It completed the illusion.
I’m not saying Abi should’ve played Claudia, but what I am saying is that there were other options that could have been explored to make an older actress appear much younger.
AMC’s IWTV cost 60 million to make. The second season of doom patrol was just under 10 million.
Money was not the issue.
I’ve stayed kinda quiet about the whole thing because everyone was so very heated about it all, but after seeing what’s on here… well.
The creative decision to change Claudia so fundamentally is what ultimately made me decide I’d lurk before putting my money down for the subscription to peacock.
This was when I felt in my gut that this thing they were making was going to be a mess that was as rough to sit through as that ill fated QOTD.
After seeing what I’ve seen of this latest episode (and I definitely have feelings about that, but I don’t feel like sharing them here, now) I feel very good about my decision to not watch.
No shade to Ms. Bailey Bass. I do think she’s a total (pardon the joke) Doll in this role, and it’s totally not her fault. I think she’d be foolish if she didn’t take the part and run with it. She’s doing well with what she’s given. The whole cast is. I commend them
This post is more of a general comment about disappointment. I feel like there’s a greater conversation to be had about how characters are being messed with on a fundamental level here. You cannot change something so major to a character out of convenience without sacrificing something very important that’s being said.
This seems to be a running issue with the writing, and I’m very sad to see something that resonates with so many be treated this way.
