Loaded question, but what is living with DID like? What causes it?

hiii!

honestly, its a pretty tiring experience, though ill be speaking from our own experience as everyone experiences it differently and i wont speak for an entire group of people,

for us it can be,, incredibly tiring but also helpful at times! (some alters are more helpful than others,,)

Its hard to keep track of whats going on, especially if you have the amnesia type of dissociative disorder!

And what causes it is repeated childhood trauma (medical trauma, abuse (emotional, physical, ect.)) it forms at a really really young age (though, most of these alters tend to be fragmented , though thats what it was like for us! ), though some alters, for different people might grow a consciousness earlier than for other people! (our first alter pretty sure formed fully for us when we were about 12? )

these alters split as a sort of way to protect the body and or brain from any traumatic memories that the body might have gone through!

But like i said, everyone experiences DID/OSDD in a different way ^_^
