Soo real like -

This ship had so much potential but at the end of the day they feel more good as platonic than romantic.

And why is that? Because they were kinda rushed from the beginning. It was never a "love at first sight", this whole "love at first sight" concept is more like - "oh I saw this pretty person randomly somewhere and developed a crush on them" (he didn't even knew that El was a girl not a boy + he mistaken her for Will)

This idea of "Mike being in love with El" was at first pushed onto him by people at his surroundings (Lucas and Nancy).

But okay let's just say that he fell in love with her after that. But what after that? They never got to be by each other's sides for most of the time and not forget to mention that they don't even feel like a main couple, it's like the side couple that is just there to fill in.

Mileven’s biggest problem is that the show never fully commits to them.

With lumax, even when they're paired with other characters. their chemistry is natural, their conflicts are earned, and their big moments land. and the show proves they work.

Max gets thrown in with dustin and lucas a lot, and if you look for it, their dynamic is undeniably common. and its good. a key thing to see here is that she is never overshadowed by the two guys, nor dustin by the main couple. the shots are always of the three as a united front. friends. allies. fighters. their energy is fun, fast-paced, borderline comedic—they feel like a trio.

the el, mike, will shots never deliver that same scene work, and they come off as way more insecure. someones always behind, or to the left, or looking elsewhere. never truly a trio.

usually? it’s Will. but in the final moments of Season 4 when Hawkins is literally breaking apart, it’s Mike and Will standing together.

El stands alone, emphasized as the supernatural core of the show. not as Mike’s romantic partner.

and after a year apart, where was the big mileven moment?

when there are long gaps between seasons, most shows double down on their central love story—reminding the audience why they should care. so why would the duffers make their reunion so weak?

for three seasons, it was Mike and El. but by Season 4, everything tilts. the final shot tells us that, whether intentional or not, the real emotional arc was always between Mike and Will.

and that creates a plot problem.

because all that character building, all that love, all that passion? It was always meant for someone else.

if the Duffers wanted us to stay invested in Mileven, they should have locked it in during the biggest moments.

Instead, they framed something else entirely.
