Remembering how when I first watched stranger things (this was literally so long ago, omfg) in that scene where Mike is talking with Dustin about Lucas, Dustin says, "He's your best friend right?" And I just remember thinking,

'Lucas? It's obvious WILL is Mikes best friend'

But then, Mike agrees.

And now, with the context of byler, that just feels like one of the biggest OG proof. Mike's connection with Will is undeniably different from the rest of the party, even since the beginning.

Lucas Sinclair appreciation post because Pookie is CRIMINALLY. Underrated. I hate the way black characters are ignored and disregarded is some fandoms and he is genuinely such a cool character.

It actually makes me so angry how much Lucas/Caleb is ignored in the fandom. He is so much more than just Max’s goofy boyfriend he is his own character and we need to talk about him more often. I love him sm.

Just want to add that Mike wears yellow (Will's color) and Will wears blue (Mike's color) to enhance the idea that the two of them do not get along when they don't wear their usual colours.

They're fine here because they wear their colours. This symbolism is here to show that they don't get along if they don't wear their own colours because they're trying to be someone else. Someone they're not.

In Rink O'mania, Mike tries to act different than his usual self, and so does Will.

With Lumax it is kinda the same, we can see Max wears dark clothing while Lucas wears light clothing. It emphasizes this idea that Max is in the dark and tries to be someone else, she's like acting different, while Lucas is also trying be someone else, he's acting different.

And we can also add the fact that at Rink O'mania, both Mike and Will are in a dark area, while you can see when they wear their own colour it's lighted.

It is visible when the colorimetry is darker or lighter.

Max: What the hell is that supposed to mean?

Both duos fight for something similar.

Lucas and Max broke up at that time because Max was feeling too depressed about Billy's death, while Lucas started to play basketball, joined the school team, to be popular and to stop being bullied.

The reason they fight is because Lucas feels like Max is "not here anymore", she's like a "ghost." Which means she's been off, ignoring him, and everything else around her. She's going through a hard time, and Lucas is trying to be there for her, and tries to talk to her, even if it means being ignored.

Will has been off to California for almost a year, and him and Mike have been separated. The only way they communicated with is through phone calls. Later in that arguing, Will tells Mike he's been calling "a couple times" while El has "a book of letters" from him. Mike was arguing with Will because he's been ignoring him all day, that's the main reason before Will mentions something else.

Will feels like Mike is ignoring him, only caring about El. He's off, been calling just a few times (although we know it's not true), but overall, he feels like Mike isn't being himself. Mike on the other hand, feels like Will is ignoring him, probably because he likes a girl too (Angela + the painting which he doesn't know it's for him yet).

Lucas is mad at Max for not being here. Will is mad at Mike for not being here. Max is mad at Lucas because she's going through a hard time. Mike is mad at Will because he's going through trying to be the typical boyfriend for El, and a hard time of admitting his sexuality.

Obviously, these two couples have a lot in common already. Because they have other parallels.

And Max/Will usually blame themselves but Lucas/Mike are here to blame them instead of their lover.

Overall they just share similar scenes.

His friends cheer with him while he plays DND and wins, he reads Max's letter for him, El hugs him in the desert, Jonathan tells him about how being a freak is the best, his mom repeats just how much she loves him and how she's proud of him, Mike says that his painting is amazing and being weird is really cool and maybe everything happens for a reason and he says that they'll go crazy together... he's not a mistake, and he's not alone
