YACHI’S POV

Izora was definitely right when she said dealing with a bunch of immature high school boys can be exhausting. But there’s always a bright side, meeting new friends and pushing myself out of my comfort zone. Right now, though, all I can think about is getting through practice so I can walk home with Y/N and Izora.

“YACHI, HEYYYY!!” I hear Hinata yell from across the gym, waving both arms.

“Hi, Shoyo. What’s up?” I call back, trying not to sound as out of breath as I feel.

“Nothing, just brainstorming how to help Tsukishima win student council president!”

“Right… I forgot he’s running,” I say, blinking.

“WAIT—YOU SHOULD HELP US!!” Hinata shouts, his eyes sparkling like he just scored a quick set.

“See, I would… but I’m already part of another committee.”

“WHAT? WHICH ONE?!”

“The Femininomenon Committee.”

Hinata tilts his head, his expression blank. “The what now?”

I sigh. “You’ll see.”

He’s on instagram scrolling through reels when you call. “Hi Atsumu” “You miss me that bad, huh?” he laughs but it fades fast. When you say “Nah. Just wanted to say goodnight,” he goes quiet. “…Goodnight? Uhh text me when you get home safe, even if I’m not supposed to care anymore.”

The first ring doesn’t even go through before he picks up the phone. “Is this a dream?” he says immediately. “No.. I Just wanted to tell you goodnight Bo.” After you say goodnight, he sniffles. “Can I say it back and pretend things are okay for a sec?” And he does. Over and over.

- OIKAWA -

You haven’t talked in months. But he still answers on the first ring. “…You okay?” he asks, voice low and concerned. “I just wanted to say goodnight Tōru,” there’s a pause, and then “Sweet dreams, dummy.”

Practice was supposed to be over.

The boys had finished fifteen minutes ago—sweat-drenched and loud as always—trudging to the locker room with their usual jokes and shoulder shoves. You’d waited for them to clear out, wanting space. Peace.

But of course he stayed.

Oikawa Tooru, captain of the boys’ team, notorious flirt, and number one reason the gym lights somehow stayed on too long after hours, stood near the back wall, arms crossed, watching you like he always did. Like this was his gym and you were the surprise act.

You hated how aware of him you were. How his gaze burned like a tight set serve. How he never looked away when you caught him watching.

You tossed the ball again.

Jumped.

Spike. Land. Reset.

“Your form’s off,” he called out finally.

You whipped around. “You done stalking or should I get you a chair so you can keep staring?”

Oikawa smiled, lazy and smug, like you’d said something sweet. “Couldn’t help myself. You jump higher than most of my team. I was admiring.”

You tossed the ball again, ignoring the heat in your ears. “If you’re here to give unwanted coaching, at least warm up a ball.”

He didn’t hesitate. Seconds later, he was across from you, spinning the ball between his fingers.

“You know,” he said, “for someone who acts like they hate me, you sure let me hang around.”

You stared up at him . “For someone who flirts with the whole school, you sure never miss my practices.”

He grinned, slow and guilty. “Maybe I like the way you spike. It’s aggressive. Passionate.”

“Or maybe i’m imagining it you.”

“I wouldn’t mind.” He tossed the ball in the air, set it perfectly—like muscle memory—and watched as you leapt, met it in the air, and sent it crashing down.

The echo rang through the gym.

When you landed, he was smiling again, this time softer. “Nice kill.”

You blinked, breath catching. “…Thanks.”

For a moment, the silence stretched. He stepped a little closer.

“I’ve got a game next weekend,” he said. “You should come. If you’re not too busy being better than my team.”

You rolled your eyes, but your lips twitched. “I’ll think about it.”

He tilted his head. “I’ll save you a seat. Or—better—come warm up with us. I could use a good blocker in my face.”

You smirked. “You really want me in your face, huh?”

Oikawa’s eyes glittered. “Only if you promise to spike just like that again.”
