Do you have any theories on why Razamel dislikes Gargamel so much? (because for some apparent reason he does) O_o

Well… personally, I have a couple:D

If we take into consideration only the movie and what JP Karliak said about the brothers in his interviews (I’ve posted some of them), then I’d say it’s because of their parents, probably mostly their mom. The She [Mother] never respected you or your stupid cat from Razamel when he betrays Gargamel makes me think their parents were extremely disappointed in Gargamel and berated and humiliated him in front of his younger brother. Since their parents, the (evil) authority in the family, treated Gargamel like this it was only natural that Razamel developed the same disdain towards his sibling:(

JP Karliak said that Razamel has major only-child energy, so he, perhaps, has always wanted to be better than his brother to avoid being treated the same by his parents😢 Or in this situation Razamel simply believes that in comparison to Gargamel he is easily superior in the eyes of his parents (and his own).

Also in the family portraits you can see that Razamel is always front and center, while Gargamel is barely seen. Long story short, it’s favouritism from the part of the parents:(

But I have my very personal version of the events that is different from the original movie.

The movie makes it clear that their dad is long dead (and now inhaled by Joel).

In my story their dad is, first and furmost, alive, fine and dandy. In my headcanon, however, the brothers were initially pretty close to each other (you know, being mischievous and getting into brotherly shenanigans together), but:

1. A particular episode damaged their relationship (I’m trying to explore this plotpoint)

2. Their upbringing made it worse. The thing is that in my headcanon they spent a lot of their time separated: Gargamel mostly lived with the mom, why Razamel usually stayed with the dad (this is quite ironic, hopefully I’ll get to explain it later!). It was not a divorce, though. But yes. An unpleasant incident, confusing treatment from their parents and basically growing up separated - is a recipe for ruined relationship😭

And, as we saw in the movie, Gargamel at least wanted to catch up and be a happy evil family again, while Razamel… not so much (but I do see reasons for that too😉).

In fact, we did see their younger selves in the movie… well, kinda. It’s before the scene where Joel tries to kill Azrael, look at the portraits (sorry for the quality)

But yeah. It would’ve been great to get a proper flashback with younger Gargamel and Razamel.

…hopefully I’ll get to write more headcanons (or maybe even a proper story!) on their family.

It’s just I’ve been on tumblr for many years (though went by a different name), but I’ve never made posts (especially art) of my own. So this is an entirely new experience for me. I know that yellow eye whites are usually a stylistic choice, mostly to show that this character is a bad guy.

HOWEVER

One of my non-ironic headcanons about Razamel is that he’s got jaundice, which in real world is about yellowish hue of eyes and skin, like this:

And if we compare Razamel to other characters, it’s clear that the colour of his eyes is different:

Initially I thought it was due to the lighting in the scenes, but even in the posters (let’s call it “neutral lighting”) you can see the difference:

The only characters who have similar eye colour are the intergalactic wizards (Chernobog and his friends) and Azrael:

Which could indicate that they are another (evil) species and, therefore, suggest that Razamel could be some sort of intergalactic being posing as Gargamel’s human brother… but I don’t like that theory, so I’ll just say that those are different species and Razamel just has jaundice.

Which brings me to a headcanon of mine concerning the evil brothers’ nameless (for now) dad: their father is a heavy smoker always walking around with his pipe stuffed with some pungent powders (that are totally used to enhance his magic abilities and nothing more). And because of that the old wizard and, naturally, his son have liver issues causing the whole yellowish eye thing and other annoying health problems.

Something I’ve noticed in one the latest Smurfs tv spots: at first I thought that those in the water cooler in the backround were some fish (dunno, weird evil wizards with their weird evil things), but I’ve just realized that those in fact are Chernobog, Asmodius and Jezebeth! The guys who told Razamel his plans were lame. Apparently, that’s his revenge of some sort. That he, judging by the trailer, tries to celebrate with harmonica solo (unsuccessfully, tho)

Just watched a review on The Smurfs and it seems that all of this (and more things planned) might make no sense in the film’s universe. Buuuut I’ll have to see it for myself first. And I’ve got some ideas how to rework this concept to fit the canon because I already love this oc of mine, I don’t want him to go😭😭😭😭

Thanks a lot! But I’m kinda silly and don’t exactly understand the Free Gush Pass thing😭

But as for the question I guess at the moment Gargamel and Razamel (mostly Razamel as a matter of fact) live in my heart and mind rent-free.

And I’m particularly horrible at “gushing about” (despite having a ton of ideas😭).

But the encounter with you inspired me in a way and out of the blue (pun intended) I’ve got some ideas/headcanons(?) on Gargamel and Razamel’s dad!

Perhaps I’ll eventually draw him and write more about him.

Still playing around with the names, but appearance-wise I do see him resemble professor Ratigan (from The Great Mouse Detective), with wide shoulders and narrow lower body. Opposite to Razamel in that sense.

And if we take Gargamel and his mom in the 2021 show, they look strikingly similar.

Soooo in that sense Razamel takes A LOT from their dad.

Like the guy definitely boasts some excellent (maybe even Salavador Dali-like!) moustache that he loves twirling in a villain-y manner. He is balding like his sons, however, hid hair is fabulously long and healthy with some grey strikes. Also he sports fabulous red b o o t s✨ (made from the skin of a dragon he vanquished back in his youth).

And magic-wise I do see him as a summoner/conjuror mage: summoning and/or enslaving various beasts and spirits and enslaving them in variuos ways. Though “enslaving” might be too strong of a word, since he keeps the majority of them as pets and servants (I have some headcanons on his relationships with Azrael and the smurfs too!)

Concerning his personality, well… A man with a strange and wicked sense of humour; even more peculiar ways of showing love to his sons; flamboyant; fabulous; knowing, how powerful he is, and getting immense pleasure from this (completely justified); the why are people worried about the end of the world? The universe is in no danger, I’m just at home tending to my man-eating flowers type of villain; papa raised no quitters type of dad; in many ways a dictator and a real threat.

I can (and do want😭) to talk about him for a pretty long time, so I’d rather do a separate post on him some day.

I mean you really inspired me to share my quedtionable concepts and to go back to my cringe drawings and share them too😭💔❤️
