Hello everyone, IRIDE here. Welcome back to the sArtuday! This week I'll talk about my fundamental artistic inspiration. Maybe you saw one of his incredible illustrations on Pinterest, or on Instagram, or maybe here on Tumblr; his artsyle has something magic and powerful; and probably, this might be the best definition you could give to this artist: Terada Katsuya is a concentrate of creative power.

The first time I saw one of his dragon illustrations, I was speechless, in full contemplation of the artwork; and the following words were something like: "So here is what you can get by drawing". Since that distant day, I never stopped trying to draw like him, totally submerged by his fascinating style. In that period, I bought this incredible book.

I onestly red lots of artbooks and illustration books, but this one is a great exception, something totally different. Terada Katsuya SKETCH is the entire compendium of his workflow, imagination, and describes in lots of sketches and pages, a root and all-encompassing concept:

What comes out when he grabs the penci/pen?

The answer is really simple: fun. Every drawing, every sketch, every illustration, every fragment of his style and artistic essence, (I think) is collected in this book, as an act of play and love for his life. Terada plays with shapes, human figure, machines, animals, grotesque or epic subjects... everything done as his playground. And it's so inspiring!

I hope these words have had on you the same effect this book has had and still continues to have on me, everytime I open it.

- BOOKS THAT CHANGED MY LIFE (1):

GODHUSK REbirth by Plastiboo

[Hello everyone, IRIDE here. Today I'll start a column about any kind of art, called sARTuday. As first post, I want to start with a sub-column, talking about books that created or destroyed something in any part of my life: in a nutshell, fundamental books for me. I've always been in love with books, such as artbooks, comics, essays, novels, etc... In this way, every Saturday I'll talk about an artistic product, manufact or theme, with the hope of creating a space or a moment of dialogue about art. New topics coming for the future. If I have to describe what type of book I madly love, I'm sure the answer is artbooks: every kind of character study, every concept layout, any note about something fundamental for a story or a fictional world... Even just talking about them, it makes me wnat to pick one up and devour with my eyes every single page and artwork.

However, one author in particoular created in me an irrepressible desire; desire that I think I've never felt, and maybe I'll never be able to express clearly: I'm talking about artbooks as vintage guides for never-existed videogames.

Godhusk REbirth has an eerie power, as you flip through some pages of the book. You constantly feel the faith that what are you seeing and reading, surely exist. The way the creator of this book, Plastiboo, guides you in a dystopian and biotechnologic world, with any kind of cyber opprobrium, is really close to the role that Virgilio holds in the Divine Comedy. And as a vintage videogame guide: strategies, combat phases of enemies and bosses, the more effective attacks for some creatures than others... Every detail is made as the reader is still playing the game, and needs any kind of help and support.

I won't go through the plot or the lore of the artbook, also as an invitation to read it: I prefer to talk about my experience with Plastiboo's book. As a fanboy of extreme sci-fi and cyber aesthethics, when I saw this book for the first time, it was love at first sight. Some time before the purchase, I had seen some artworks from another project, Vermis. The way the illustrations struck me, convinced me to go through some other works. And then I saw it. As I bought the book, Godhusk REbirth has always given me something, beautiful and helpful, from concept and aesthetic suggestions, to quiet support to my aesthetic and artistic research. And everytime I need to see and visually taste something beautiful and powerful, I open this guide, trying to experience it as the first time I did.
