His eyes closed for a few moments, letting himself enjoy the feeling of Kakashi playing with his hair. When he did reopen them, it was to give the other a small smile.
"I see no reason he wouldn't be Kakashi. You've spent most of your life in service to Konoha. Too much of your life, in my opinion. You're a good person."
Iruka went down when prompted, trusting Kakashi not to let his head hit the ground. Instead he had a comfortable lap to take advantage of. "Any good parent would want their child to grow up happy and healthy." He assured, reaching over to take Kakashi's hand.
"She must have been very important to him if it made him sad to talk about her. I'm sure they'd both be proud of you."

"I certainly try to be." He scratched a little at the scar across his nose, a bad habit he had when he got praise.
"No two kids are alike. If you're not patient and understanding, it's hard to be considered a good teacher. Or a good parent, in a lot of cases too. Firm but kind, is the way to go. At least in my expertise."
"Well, it's nice to hear that," Sai says, in thanks.
He tries not to think about the feeling he gets in his chest upon receiving such kind words but, nonetheless, he supposed he hoped they'd make a good team, too.
"I can see why your former students speak so highly of you. You seem like a very... understanding person."

do you wish you could've said one thing to your parents before they perished? do you still resent the nine tails for killing them and I'm not talking about Naruto! I'm talking about kurama
"I don't feel any resentment for Naruto or the nine-tails anymore. It gets a little tiring after a while, holding on to a feeling like that forever and I don't want to keep that sort of resentment in my heart when it's directed towards something connected to someone I care a lot about."

"I want to think my dad wouldn't mind, either." He remembered his father being very gentle. Soft, he had thought. As if being soft with your own infant son, or with your allies, was a bad thing. But, genius or not, he had been a small child back then. His memories were tinted by the lens of a kid who still felt like his father was invincible (even if he was soft).
"And... I really don't know about my mom. I never met her. And dad got sad when I asked about her, so I didn't. He tried to hide it, though." Kakashi carefully pulled Iruka down so he'd lie on his lap.

Iruka leaned back, resting his head on Kakashi's shoulder again as he thought about it. He remembered his parents being happy together and very much in love. He'd wanted something like that.
"I'd like to think that mine wouldn't mind. I think they'd just want me to be happy like they were."
He grinned, hearing him laugh, and laughed at his childish gesture. Cute. After a moment, he sighed, listening to Iruka considering what they'd never know about their fathers. Or parents, in Iruka's case.
"That sounds nice." It was complete fantasy, but it was nice. Kakashi didn't tell him that. "Do you think our parents would mind that we are together like this?"

"She's come a long way. She was always one of my top students and she tried not to show it but I know she had moments of self doubt." He liked to think he understood his students a decent amount.
"I think the three of you will make a good team."
”Ah. So, he’s always done that,” Sai remarks, humming a note.
While it was probably true, he has a difficult time imagining that Naruto could be any louder. He was still one of the most brash, outspoken people Sai had ever known.
”I... almost find it hard to believe that Sakura could ever have lacked confidence,” he then admits.

"Oh come on." That had Iruka laugh. Kakashi had clocked him right off the bat with what he was thinking about. He didn't deny it, sticking his tongue out at the older man.
"I'd like to think they knew each other." He smiled a little. "And that they worked together from time to time. Like we did."
He backed off a little to look at Iruka in the eye. "Stop trying to picture me with long hair," he said. While his tone was jokingly, he could tell that was precisely what Iruka was doing.
"Hmm. Maybe. He worked with a lot of people. He would have been a good team-mate, too."

do you still remember your parents names? do you have a momento left by them? a photo clothing or whatnot?
"A little over a decade isn't really that long, so yes, I remember my parents names. I remember what they look like too." He explained. "But our house was destroyed in the attack so I didn't get much from it. I found a picture. Some of their notes and books but not much else."

"I'm glad to hear that. I know it can be difficult being added to a group that's already been established." He heard enough griping from Naruto over one of their Ichiraku trips about when Sai joined. He hadn't liked the thought of Sai replacing Sasuke. Iruka didn't see why they couldn't both be a member of the team. Sai now and Sasuke later, when he was dragged back. From what he could tell, Sai was trying and to him that was what mattered.
"They haven't changed much really. In strength and skill of course, they've gone leaps and bounds but personality wise.... Sakura is more confident in herself than she was when she was in my class and Naruto has actually mellowed out a little but he'll always be the loudest kid in the area, declaring he'll be Hokage one day."
continued from ༄ for @irukasenseii
He blinks, at that, pausing for a moment in thought. To Sai, the question feels warm when Iruka asks it; it’s feels different from how it does when the other teams ask about the rest of Team Seven. It feels like afternoon sun, when the light is an orange glow, too stubborn to sink past the edge of the horizon.
”I would say so,” he answers, saying, “Their synergy is like nothing else. I’m sure they were probably much different as students. That’s what it seems like, anyway.”
Sai smiles, or he tries to, the corners of his lips awkwardly upturned on an otherwise placid expression.
