I remember sitting at our favorite coffee table one lazy afternoon, clinking tea cups holding too much caffeine.

Sitting across from you, I noticed your strawberry strands caught perfectly in the light.

How lovely you always were.

My heart was in the right place. I know it. I swear it. I would stall by building towers with paragraphs. In calling back to your brilliance, I showed you all the ways you could enjoy life’s pleasures.

You can have what I have and live in any way you wanted, just like me.

“No. You’re not listening.” I hear you say, after minutes of rambling onward.

Whenever you look at me, I flutter. I was enamored with your truth, as if you were my price to pay for hard facts. The way your subtle smile still graced me even when you told me wrong.

“I don’t want to be like you…” you say at last. “I want to live in a world where someone like me can be.”

That was a phrase I’d long forgotten. Who was even the first to say it?

I was trapped in this tiny bubble, a small haven where wallflowers adorned each glimmering pillar. Greens bustling against the breeze drowned out all the pain and suffering of others.

And here I sat, thriving before it all.

Instead of listening to why you finally left, my existence was gay, at last accepting that I could never be primed for privilege.

But privilege comes in many flavors.

I tasted cherries while drinking blueberry vodka, my glass made of rubies while pretending to know your sapphire.

It didn’t really matter what we looked like, did it? I was still thriving in a world that couldn’t fathom an angel like you.

Jimmy would have been helping Chuck better if he pulled that battery trick on him much sooner. Chuck was at least trying to make some progress once he realized it could be psychosomatic.

The whole time I watched the Chicanery breakdown, I saw the unintentional enabling of Chuck’s crutch. Both Jimmy and Howard were trying to help Chuck, but they only made it worse.

What he really needed was for someone to rip that band-aid off much, much sooner…And probably not in a courtroom, but that’s besides the point.

You know what I’m just now noticing? How formal Lalo is when he speaks with Hector.

There are two ways to say the singular ‘you’ in standard Spanish: ‘tú’ or ‘usted’. Usage of which with who varies across cultures (and there are some other informal forms in certain places), but we can compare Lalo speaking with his Tío to Nacho speaking with his dad. Nacho’s family is from Galeana, Michoacán in Mexico and we know that the Salamancas broadly come from Michoacán as well, so they likely speak similar if not the same dialects.

Nacho exclusively uses the informal ‘tú’ with his dad, which to my understanding (and consumption of other Mexican media) is typical between family members in Mexico, even across generations.

Lalo, on the other hand, exclusively uses ‘usted’ when talking to Hector. To my ear, this conveys distance more so than it does simple respect. We know Nacho deeply respects his father as well, yet he still speaks informally. I would argue that’s because of their closeness, and also because that’s generally how you speak to family. But not in Hector’s house, apparently. Even when Lalo is about to walk to his death, he says “Lo quiero” instead of “Te quiero” when he speaks to Hector for the last time, says I love you before he hangs up.

It just fits so well with who we know Hector to be, demanding blind ‘respect’ above all else (‘respect’ of course as in ‘if you don’t treat me like an authority, I won’t treat you like a person’). Of course he would force his nephews to use such formal speech with him even though they’re family — presumably close family, considering la familia es todo.

(*caveat that Spanish is my second language)

I’d like to think Mike Ehrmantraut had a soft spot for Howard. Not only because he’s not in the game (we know how big he is on not involving innocents), but Howard genuinely tries. He’s got the naiveté of someone who thinks there’s still good in the world.

Of course he’d be nice to Mike.

I’d also like to think that Mike would drop kick Jimmy if fucking with Howard throws the guy into the arms of a cartel drug lord, even if by accident.

Got this fucked up AU in my head where Gus meets Lalo way before BCS, while Lalo was still being groomed into running a cartel. Like late 20s Lalo, back when empathy wasn’t fully ripped out of him.

Suppose Gus Fring, a couple years after losing Max and plotting against the Salamancas, sees some of the abusive shit Hector does to Lalo. And you could go wild with this. Beatings, letting buyers assault him, all the things. Old Tío’s a sick fuck.

Say Gus witnesses Hector abusing Lalo for being gay (hate crime territory). Maybe even Gus goes “oh nah, fuck that” and uses this opportunity to plant seeds? Little by little, Gus could intervene and turn Lalo against Hector, put ideas in his head. All this to make Hector pay for not only taking away Max, but breaking his own blood.

#Laloward: FAVE. I especially love the fix-its. Both Howard and Lalo are so pretty to me (and HOWIE deserved better goddamnit, he’s my crush)

#Lacho: Starting to grow on me! But I like to see Nacho being the bold one in the relationship. There should be more works where Nacho takes control and Lalo lets him. Nice scenario.

#MaxGus: Love this ship, and I love that it’s canon. Gives me a “fuck yeah it hurts” feeling.

#DaveGus: I like it! But just like on the show, it wouldn’t really work until Gus moves on. But when the Salamancas are alive, that isn’t happening.

#JessieJane: Love this for them, and yes Jessie deserved every minute of his happy ending. They would probably have been toxic as hell but I hold on to some hope that maybe they’d survive it.

#Skyter: Meh…Walt becomes HORRIBLE for Skyler, but it also makes sense.

#Skyaul: Eh…he’s only marginally better than Walter by the time he meets Skylar. Makes sense though.

#Lydim: It doesn’t make sense but I don’t really knock it either. Not my yum, but I understand how they can be someone’s favorite.

#McWexler: The only reason this is so far down is because I actually despise both of them. They got off so fucking easy. Kim more so than Jimmy. They have an indirect body count and later seasons feel like a betrayal. I rooted for them in the beginning.

#WeirdDaddyIssues: I understand Walt and Jesse a bit, but PLEASE no Jessie and Mike. Love Mike as a character, not as a lust object!

#SaulMike: Nooooooo….again, with Mike. No…

#Chimmy: Oh HELL nah. I would sooner ship something like #Choward than anything remotely Chuck and Jimmy. I can see Chuck being horrible to Jimmy and the whole thing being wrong and toxic and just, no. Also doesn’t help that I’m not Chuck’s biggest fan in the looks department.
