“The nitrogen in our DNA, the calcium in our teeth, the iron in our blood, the carbon in our apple pies were made in the interiors of collapsing stars. We are made of starstuff.” (Carl Sagan)

0 - The Fool/ In memory of Vaslav Nijinsky
(acrylic on 34*43 cm wood panel) Keep reading if you want know more about the story of this painting ;)
I can't seem to find a piece of mind ever since I've acquainted myself with the biography of Nijinsky. It has nothing to do with him being a legend of 20th century ballet, or him being schizophrenic and spending the second half of his life mostly in institutions.
It has all and everything to do with the beauty of his spirit. Or, to be more precise, the beauty of his spirit, the richness and poignancy of his artistic self-expression, and the rift between those things and the quality of his life. That is what gives me a heartache I can't quite explain.
So how does this all relate to the Fool? I wasn’t aware of this bit of info while painting, it was only today that I've learnt that the word "fool" comes from Medieval Latin follus (adj.) "foolish," from Latin follis "bellows, leather bag," from PIE root *bhel- (2) "to blow, swell."
Well... While I was painting I listened to the new Tool album on repeat. Pneuma came on, and I stopped for a moment, to consider my then half-finished painting, and I sang along because this is my favorite song from the new album... And that was when my mind just went "YES! THAT'S THE POINT!"
The lyrics in question:
We are spirit bound to this flesh We go round one foot nailed down But bound to reach out and beyond this flesh Become Pneuma

Concept board / study drawing for my current painting in progress.
I’m quite close to finishing the actual painting now, but I forgot to upload this to tumblr, so I thought what the heck, I’ll just put it here now, it’s not like anyone’s gonna call the social media police XD

Let’s see if I can finish this in the next 24 hours... (Why yes, my studio desk IS a royal mess. That's a feature, not a bug (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧  I’m sure there are people out there who can keep their stuff organized while artisting up the place but I can’t relate. The messier the merrier, right?)

Sketchbook tour - part II - I drew these roses on Valentines day... I guess that's a really 'introverted artist' thing, drawing roses for yourself on feb 14...😅😆 Again, I followed Rachel Reinert's A+ tutorial in her book 'In bloom' 🤩

Sketchbook tour - part I
I'm using the book 'In bloom' by Rachel Reinert to learn how to draw better botanical lineart. These were some of the first drawings I completed based on her book. 😊🌺
