The Galaxy Collection is finally here! 🌌 And wow, am I excited to share it with you! It’s been a long time coming, but ever since I painted these galaxies some time ago, I knew I wanted to turn them into a suite as part of a larger galaxy collection. A close friend paid me a huge compliment the other day, and told me that what was most special about me was my vulnerability with the people I love. For me, with my history, that blew me away. . I’m about to share a bit here about my life (you’ve been warned!), but honestly, the comment honored me in noting I’ve grown *A LOT* over the last decade. . Here’s the deal: I’m both a sexual assault and domestic violence survivor. While both experiences were unrelated, they happened in my teens and early 20s, both times by someone I loved. This rooted a pretty clear belief that being vulnerable is not the safest thing. . While there were some positives—I’m hugely independent, and fiercely protective of and loyal to people I feel safe with—it also means the idea of vulnerability scared me deeply. Vulnerability (typically w/men) meant that I would be weak and lose control, and that not only could something go wrong, it probably WOULD. (If you happen to follow my writing side—@jadeawaters—you’ve probably seen this drive my work, either directly or through my tendency to write bittersweet and heavy love tales.) . This history doesn’t mean I haven’t loved since—but I spent a long time guarding my heart. Somewhere along the way, I was diagnosed with PTSD—but I’ve also been doing the work to figure out how to get through it and heal. . What a lot of this entailed was learning to trust my gut and share my honest feelings, even if it scares me. Turns out, the soft, squishy internal me had an insane amount of feelings buried. It’s taken some navigating, and still scares me how much feeling I share these days with people I’m close to—but if I met my younger, feelings-shy self...I’m not sure I’d recognize her. . So, back to the compliment—hearing someone say vulnerability was my greatest strength? Kind of floored me. But it also made me feel good, because growing is what this whole life thing is about isn’t it? 🌟 Thank you for reading if you still are!
