mattel just made the first Proship Barbie doll in the world. she wears a kylo ren shirt with rey’s 3 buns and comes with a ravenclaw scarf, a laptop open to a ridiculous tumblr argument, and a protest sign that calls for donations to ao3. post-release, mattel got slammed by proshippers for pushing such an offensive caricature of their people, who took to tumblr spouting liberal chickenshit like “ALRIGHT THAT’S IT. YOU MESSED WITH THE WRONG FANDOM MOTHERCLUCKERS!” or other such cringe. but they weren’t alone! antishippers also began to deride mattel for supporting “dangerous perverts”. mattel interpreted this as them needing to round out their lineup and created the world’s first Antiship Barbie, who comes with an asexual pride pin with a dragon on it ordered from etsy, incomplete algebra homework, a genshin impact yaoi keychain handmade by underpaid chinese child laborers, and a phone with a sticker image of Hatsune Miku: Project Sekai Colorful Stage. proshippers started to buy both barbies and make them lez out as a way of “sticking it to the man”. this consumerism became a trend on proship twitter. adult proshippers began to tag their least-favorite 15 year old antishippers under pictures of the shipcourse barbies lezzing out saying “this you?” which led to a hate brigade against all shipcourse barbie owners, pro- AND anti-ship. someone saw both shipcourse barbies in the back of a youtuber’s vlog and loudly cancelled her, yeah it was a whole thing. anyway you wanna go out for coffee this weekend?

You can enjoy things in fiction that would be awful in the real world. Like playing a murderhobo in a game! In the real world, being or supporting a murderer-thief would be pretty damn awful, while in the game it's just good fun. Same with anything else you choose to do with the pixels on the screen, like kinks that don't affect anyone real, so they're okay in fiction, but would be pretty damn bad in real life.
