Epodynosthesia with sudden onset immunological response to hormonal suppressants after early use
This disorder, short EDIS, is characterised by severe pain in most areas of the body presenting during an alpha's rut. It's almost exclusively seen in alphas who present at least two years earlier than is average** and use or have used any form of hormonal birth control and/or rut blockers to assist in managing their cycles during their youth.
In addition to this, EDIS is characterised by a sudden onset allergy, immunity or other immunological response to said birth control and/or rut blockers. This occurs because of the use in early years, which is not recommended except in extreme cases.
In most studied cases of an allergy presenting with use of both, blockers are used inconsistently* while any type of hormonal birth control is used consistently.
In studied cases presenting with an immunity to birth control and/or blockers, the blockers are used consistently while any type of hormonal birth control is used inconsistently*. This only applies if both are used at the same time.
As a general rule it can be said that consistent use of either suppressants, over more than two years, especially under the age of 16 is more likely to cause an immunity while inconsistent use* is more likely to cause an allergy.
Diagnostic Criteria:
1) Either immunological response must be consistently present for at least six months or in a disordered rut cycle, at least three ruts.
2) At least two out of six listed types of pains need to be present consistently during every rut in the diagnostic time frame:
Migraines or strong headaches
Cramps/pain in the abdominal region
Back/neck pain
Pain in the genital region
Chest pain
Leg pain (usually spread from either the back or the abdominal region)
Comment: Pain must be proven to be physically severe and limiting the possibility of a usual rut.
Cases with two types of pain are classified as mild, cases with 2-4 are classified as medium and cases with 4+ types of pain are classified as severe and often require medical intervention.
3) Some type of hormonal birth control and/or rut blockers have to have been used for at least 18 months before the diagnostic test.
4) Patient has to be at least 15 years of age to receive diagnosis but cannot have presented as an alpha any later than 16 due to the disorder being characterised by use of hormonal suppressant in early teenage years.
*inconsistent here means not used every cycle, skipping at least one cycle out of four in a normal yearly cycle pattern, and up to three in a disordered cycle pattern. (each a fourth of total ruts)
** average here refers to the age of 16, any presenting under or around the age of 14 is seen as irregular enough to qualify for this point.
@jar-of-omegaverse so i worked out another one of these disorders, the other three I'm working one I'll post tmrw or smth, but this is just like a general overview, very medical, sorry for that haha

Congrats on your degree!!!! That’s such a huge accomplishment omg <3
also if you have the ideas floating around, any hc’s for a female alpha/male omega couple expecting their first pup? especially with pack dynamics, and navigating his pregnancy as a more traditionally feminine woman and masculine man 🥺 love your blog and glad to have you back!
Thank you so much!!
I liveeeee for female alpha/male omega.
Of course they are both so excited for a baby to be joining the family but are a little nervous due to male omegas having more pregnancy and birth complications than female omegas.
The alpha is so protective of her omega and the baby. Literally will not leave his side and doesn’t like when he leaves their nice and safe home.
It’d be cute if they were in a younger pack and their baby would be the first pup in the pack!
On that note, everyone in the pack is thrilled and waiting on him hand and foot.
Early in his pregnancy before the bump started showing, people would assume he was the alpha and his mate was the omega due to him being tall and muscular and her being shorter and having a body type more similar to an omega’s then an alpha’s.
I think being pregnant would make him very dysmorphic and dysphoric. As his stomach grows and his breasts swell his mental health does a bit of a nosedive.
He’s not ashamed of being an omega but he has never advertised it either. And people would never assume him to be an omega due to him wearing scent blockers and keeping his body so muscular. Now, everyone knows just by taking one look at him. And he doesn’t love that at all.
His mate and pack are keeping a very close eye on him which is appreciated though sometimes drives him a bit crazy.
Not to worry, he is getting all the cuddles, scent marking, and love he and the new pup deserve.

please i need like a full list on what can betas do n can there be relationships between like any one? (beta x omega, omega x omega, alpha x alpha, beta x alpha) and does an alpha specifically only be dom/top? same with omegas like can they be switches?? [ps losing my mind on this😭]
Hi Anon!
I’m not sure what you mean by what betas do, but anyone can be in a relationship with whatever dynamic they want, no matter if it’s the same as their own, the traditional dynamic relationship set up, or other!
To answer your second question, no! Alphas do not need to be doms/tops. Although it is common for alphas to top in most relationships, the only time almost all alphas have the instinct to top is during rut. And to follow up, yes, omegas can be switches! During their heat they usually have an instinctual need to submit and outside of heat they often bottom as well but the strong submissive instinct isn’t as prevalent.

Hi i just remembered i followed your account ages ago and i saw your omegaverse disorders idea and i think it's really cool
For the sake of creativity ive also come up with like three disorders in an omegaverse setting and it's so funnn
Anyways i just wanted to say you're really cool and i hope to get the confidence to share my ideas the way you do!
Hi, thank you! As you should👏 worldbuilding into more obscure topics such as mental (and physical) health is always fun.
You definitely should share your ideas! I’d personally love to see them :)

Subpacks
Subpacks are smaller packs inside a large pack. In terms of evolution, they were created to essentially divide and conquer.
In modern times, subpacks are very common in large packs that have over 50 people. Typically, subpacks range from 3-10 people. They form for a multitude of reason including but not limited to:
creating a stronger bond between pack mates that spend more time together.
If part of the pack moves away from the pack’s primary location.
Allowing the pack leader to more easily keep track of their pack and organize them.
If some members of the large pack want to distance themselves from the main pack but still be apart of it. (For example, if a small town is an entire pack, it may be less stressful to have a few strong pack bonds and very loose, barely noticeable ones to the rest of the pack.)
Split responsibilities.
Although there are many positive aspects of subpacks, there are negative ones as well including:
Infighting
Isolation that leads to bond breaking from the large pack.
Jealousy
Resource guarding from their non-subpack pack mates.
Subpacks must be petitioned to and approved by the pack leader. The pack leader does not always say yes, especially if they think it will hurt the overall pack. Getting a subpack approved can take days to weeks depending on the pack leader’s methods of approval. Some just require meetings with each individual or the group petitioning to be in the subpack, others give the subpack a trial run to not only make sure it is a healthy, beneficial change for the members of the subpack but to see how it will affect the greater pack as well. Pack leaders almost never allow the subpack to pick their own pack lead and make that decision themselves.
Subpacks can also be disbanded if the pack leader deems it doing more harm than good to the greater pack or if the subpack themselves want to integrate fully back into the greater pack. For example, if a subpack that moved away, moves back to the greater pack, they may disband.
Subpack terminology:
Pack Lead: The pack leader of the subpack. Often just referred to as “lead” unlike pack leader, which is rarely shortened.
Heart pack: Used by subpack members to fondly refer to their subpack.
Greater pack: Use to refer to the pack the subpack belongs to.
Packling: Used to describe a subpack mate. Packling is informal and not typically used when speaking about subpack members to others though may be used among the subpack themselves.
Note: Packling has a double meaning, one to refer to subpack mates and the other to refer to pups in a pack that grew up together but are not biologically related.
Root, Great: Used to describe a greater pack member. Not all packs use a specific term for it, some just say “greater pack mates."

Dropping
Definition: A biological response in which instincts crash due a person being overwhelmed by the situation they are in, leading to the body shutting down.
Symptoms: Feeling cold, shivering, dissociation, paranoia, lack of smell, muted “far away” bonds, depression, anxiety, numbness, fatigue, muteness, fogginess, mental exhaustion, nausea.
Dropping is not incredibly common, with most people only dropping 5-15 times in their life. Any dynamic can drop, pups cannot.
Note: Although pups cannot drop, they may be born with a biological predisposition to it which will only make itself apparent once the pup presents.
Drop symptoms do not equal a full drop and even when someone is having drop symptoms, a full drop can be stopped. Preventing a full drop is different depending on dynamic.
For omegas, preventing a drop involves keeping them moving, often in the form of walking, and talking, both of which can be difficult due to numbness and mental exhaustion. For alphas it is the opposite. Make them lie down, preferably in a nest, and rest. For betas, it is best to isolate them in a quiet or low-volume place with one loved one or no one with them.
The reason the preventative measures are so different from dynamic to dynamic is because in order to combat the drop, one must go against what the drop is “telling” them to do. For omegas, it is to lie down and hide, make themselves as invisible as possible. For alphas, it is to protect and stay on alert. For betas, it is to find a place with a large sum of people, usually but not always loved ones, and stay aware of everyone and everything happening around them.
Note: These are generalizations but have been proven to be the most common drop “callings” for each dynamic.
Symptoms that indicate a full drop (*note: these symptoms are only indications of a drop if they follow after the above described drop symptoms): Heart attack, seizures, fainting, stroke.
Some people are biologically prone to dropping, meaning they may have drop symptoms more frequently and/or fall into drops easier. However, this does not necessarily mean they drop more frequently than others, they simply have to be careful.
Chronic Dropping Syndrome (CDS)
Definition: A disorder characterized by frequent dropping and drop symptoms caused by mental instability and trauma.
Diagnosis: It is incredibly hard to get diagnosed with CDS. One must meet 2/3 of the following requirements to be diagnosed:
Be diagnosed with a trauma disorder (PTSD, C-PTSD, etc.)
Be diagnosed with a mental disorder (depression, Anxiety, ADHD, ASD, Schizophrenia, BPD, Bipolar, OCD, or a dissociative disorder).
Experienced a major trauma within the last 3 years.
And must meet both of these requirements:
Have been near a full drop or fully dropped at least once a month for the last 18 months.
Be biologically prone to dropping.
Symptoms specific to CDS: Frequent hormone fluctuations, seizures (*note: for people with CDS, seizures are not always indicators of a full drop), psychotic episodes, fevers (*note: fevers are not indicators of drops as temperature lowers rather than rises, however, for people with CDS, they may get fevers from the hormone fluctuations), mood swings.
There is no cure for CDS, however, there are means to monitor it and medications to help:
Hormone Monitor: Very commonly used. Similar in function and style to a glucose monitor, except with hormones rather than glucose. Must be changed every 10 to 14 days.
Implants: Only used in extreme cases due to the brutal nature of the device. Implants must be injected directly into a scent gland—usually the neck scent gland for the most accurate read—and are incredibly painful to inject.
The implant can release hormones to the body in an attempt to balance out the body's own unstable levels as well as block the body's natural hormones. However, it takes the implant 6 to 12 hours to properly read and adjust to the body, so the first day is often extremely highs or very low levels.
Side effects vary from person to person but the most common symptoms are extreme nausea, increased anxiety, panic attacks, fainting, mood swings, suicidal thoughts, manic episodes, triggered heats/ruts, and sudden sickness.
Unfortunately, implants are only a temporary fix and lasts about a month then has to be taken out.
Hormone Balancers: An oral medication similar to a vitamin taken daily that is supposed to help balance the body's hormones. The effectiveness varies from person to person though it is often low-impact.

Overloading
Definition: Overwhelming a person’s instincts to the point where it creates a high. Used in recreational and medicinal instances. Acts as a natural painkiller and stimulant, however, it is highly addictive so it’s often a last resort in the medical field. In most instances when used recreationally, it turns into an addiction if it’s not one already.
How: To overload someone, a combination of senses including but not limited to smell, sound, touch, taste, and mental bonds must be used. For example, scratching someone’s wrist scent glands while biting their neck scent glands, releasing a high amount of one’s scent, and pulling on a mental bond is a way overloading can occur. This is, of course, not the only way to achieve overloading but is an example of the amount of effort that must be put into overloading someone.
Overloading is often an intimate process and can be hard to achieve for people unbonded (platonic, romantic, pack, etc). In medical uses, the medical professional will often have someone bonded to their patient perform the overloading while they supervise.
Health organizations do not recommend overloading more than four times a year for any reason.
Who can overload: Technically, all dynamics, however, it is easiest for omegas to overload and they get addicted quicker. For these reasons, omegas are often targeted victims of overloading and make up about 85% of overload addicts.
Short-term effects: High, euphoric feeling. Can aid in physical and mental pain. Relaxed, sleepy state.
Long-term effects: Dependency. Tolerance (quickly builds). Internal deterioration and shut down. Dynamic dysregulation (irregular mating cycle (very common), struggle to maintain bonds/weakened or overpowered bonds, lack of control over scent, etc). Mental health disorders (depression, anxiety, and panic disorders are the most common). Memory loss, early onset dementia (in extreme cases).
Addiction: For addicts, there are people who “deal” in overloading. It is similar to a drug deal, however, to make themselves more appealing to clients, they will offer their clients private spaces to stay and keep safe while they ride the high. This is how overloading houses came to be. Clients also often stay with one dealer as it is easier to overload with someone you trust.
Overdose: Overdosing is not possible with overloading which is one of the reasons it is so dangerous. Because there are no immediate consequences, people think it is safer than drugs, however, the long term effects are far more severe.
Withdrawals: Withdrawals from overloading are incredibly hard on the body and often lead to hospitalization and in some cases, death. People suffering from overloading withdrawals must be slowly weaned off for the best chance of survival and recovery. Rehab centers specifically for overloading are becoming more prominent as the overloading epidemic rises.
Pups: It is difficult to overload pups, but there have been recorded cases of it. It is considered instinctual abuse to overload a pup as it creates addiction and dependency at a young age and can lead to various health problems. As such, any presented individual over the age of 16 caught overloading a pup without explicit medical permission will go to jail for a minimum of 3 months.

Hi there, I write a sapphic omegaverse on my own AO3 account but I was wondering if you know of any sapphic a/b/omegaverse original works that I could read.
Hmmm sorry Nonny, I can’t think of any🤔

Can I ask? Can female alphas impregnate male alphas?
Hi Nonny!
No, female alphas cannot impregnate male alphas because male alphas do not have typical female reproductive organs or eggs.

Any advice for someone who never wrote omegaverse before but is interested in giving it a try?
Hi Anon!
For one, I recommend not trying too hard to stick your worldbuilding into preexisting ideas of what omegaverse is. Everyone writes it differently, embrace it! That being said, I think it helps to research and see other people's ideas. Oftentimes, you will find things you would have never thought of but fit the world you want to make. My last recommendation is to have a loose idea of how the basics of omegaverse will function in your world. For example, omega, betas, alphas, packs, pups, bonding, mates, etc. My personal worldbuilding tends to stray more towards equality, but in other verses, not all dynamics are created equal. Similarly, in other verses, things such as packs and pups are not as prominent/important to their worldbuilding as they are to mine. What is important to you? What elements will help your story along or hinder it?
Happy writing!

Omegaverse Dynamics 101
Omegas
The internal protectors. Omegas take care of the inner problems of the pack such as (but not limited to) emotional/instinctual issues, infighting, reproduction, and monitoring pack health and mating cycles. They also make major decisions in the pups' education. Stereotyped as weak and emotional.
Defining Traits
Submissive
Vigilant
Titles
Pack Mom- oldest or chosen omega with top authority on the inner workings of the pack.
The Heart- often given to an omega in a pack where there is only one omega.
Ommy (Oh-mee or Aw-mee)- equivalent to a parental title but used by all pups in the pack rather than just their own children. Usually (but not always) paired with the omega’s name, for example, Ommy Charlie.
Betas
The collaborative protectors. Betas can assist in internal and external problems but also manage relations with other packs, delegating pack responsibilities, and pack resources. Betas have traits of alphas and omegas as well as their own characteristics, and because of this, usually pack responsibilities vary incredibly from beta to beta. Stereotyped as dull and useless.
Defining Traits
Levelheaded
Strong-willed
Titles-
Pack Link- Given to the top-ranking beta. Usually determined by dedication and attentiveness to the pack and pack issues by the pack leader. Note: Not every pack has a titled Link.
Bebby (Beh-bee)- equivalent to a parental title but used by all pups in the pack rather than just their own children. Often (but not always) paired with the beta’s name, for example, Bebby Nico.
Alphas
The external protectors. Alphas handle exterior elements the pack may face such as (but not limited to) outside threats, physical protection, and pack territory. Alphas used to be the main breadwinners of the pack, but as times have shifted, so has this responsibility, and it is now more equally shared among different dynamics. Stereotyped as aggressive and violent.
Defining Traits
Dominant
Protective
Titles
Pack Alpha: Given to the highest ranking alpha in the pack, usually determined by age or time in pack.
Sentry- A title given to the strongest and/or most trusted alphas by the pack mom or pack leader. In smaller packs, usually only one, in larger packs, up to five. Note: This title has no relevance to hierarchy.
Abby (Ah-bee)- equivalent to a parental title but used by all pups in the pack rather than just their own children. Often (but not always) paired with the alpha’s name, for example, Abby Cole.
Notes:
The title of Pack Leader can be given to any dynamic.
These are the extreme bare bones of dynamics and there will be nuances in the roles a person will have depending on the pack.
