Hanging out with @tired-vampire1o9 and now I have a devil may cry prediction

Ok imagine. It's the final minutes of episode 7. Dante and Mary are sitting in the vice president's helicopter. Anders is piloting the helicopter. The vice president stands in front of them, reminding them that they're saving humanity(while monologuing about god's plan like drake) Dante quips: "basically, operation fix my old man's fuckup is a go" Mary calls him a fucking idiot.

They jump out of the plane, epic music playing. They're fighting off the demons, until the white rabbit shows up. He transforms into Vergil and starts whopping their asses, flashbacks of his tragic backstory playing as he monologues. Mary gets slashed, and Dante rushes to her side as Vergil continues monologuing. Mary gasps for air, coughing up blood. She weakly says, "go....you fucking dumbass". Dante is distraught as Vergil opens the gates to makai and suddenly Afterlife by Evanescence begins playing. "We're..." Mary starts, "...too late." Dante finishes as they stare grimly at the influx of demons. The song cuts to the final notes, and the screen cuts to black. Credits show every character crossed out(idfk the vice president probably dies at some point)

So....Vergil is 100% alive right

I watched episode 5 and was omw to my awards ceremony fully decked out in grad gear with my buddy and I had a jimmy neutron brain blast

Like it's so obvious he's gonna come back(probably as the white rabbit): the whole son of sparda thing, not showing his "death", the rabbit knowing way too much about Dante and sparda, THE BLUE FUCKER FROM MONSTERS VS ALIENS LITERALLY EXPLAINING THAT HE COULDN'T HAVE TAKEN VERGIL'S FORM W/O HIM BEING ALIVE?????? Yeah Dante's cooked

Also it's so jarring watching the show when I've read the Aeneid and Dante's inferno like. irl Dante and Vergil are very different lmao it's like reading bungo stray dogs all over again

I waited for release day of the DMC anime and I watched one episode before getting drowned in work 💀

All I know about DMC is that it's fanfiction of a fanfiction of the bible and evanescence ate that soundtrack UP

Ahh final thoughts on svsss since I've finished it

I liked it a lot (⁠.⁠ ⁠❛⁠ ⁠ᴗ⁠ ⁠❛⁠.⁠)

Even though I don't like the romance, I was really gripped by the characters and I kept on getting swept up in their conflicts and emotions

The jokes were really fun and I can tell that mxtx didn't write the book with any ill intent

I spent every waking moment reading because I wanted to find out what would happen to my favs

There were a few loose things I wish had gotten addressed in the ending, and I'm actually really surprised that the book didn't end on Airplane's sweet monologue about the small joys of storytelling; it really fit the themes really well

Anyway; still don't like binghe, wish shen yuan got closure for his old life, wish shen jiu also got closure, think Airplane and mobei are silly, and absolutely convinced that liu thought shen's love prophecy was about him

And FUCK the system

But yeah anyway I don't think I could ever reread since I was fighting off the worst anxiety attack of my life reading book 4(still am lol)

I don't think it's right to say that shen was the one in control, since the power dynamic late series has definitely shifted toward binghe as the aggressor

Obviously there is a lot of nuance in the situation, and since you've finished the series you know more than I do, but that was just how I felt in the moment

I didn't actually think of xin mo as a representation of toxic masculinity, but that makes a lot of sense actually! It's definitely the system and the expectations of masculinity/queerness that are the driving forces causing the problem, but I really doubt that I can forgive binghe regardless

He's the one who gave into xin mo, he's the one who's been treating shen like shit, and he's the one who gets rewarded for being evil

I'll definitely update when I finish the series, and I'll let you know how the extras go!

I can definitely concede the point that technically binghe wasn't in control, and I do blame the system for forcing the situation, but I wouldn't dare call shen the problem in the situation

The whole scene has to be taken in context, the context being binghe consistently violating Shen's boundaries throughout the story and shen giving up everything for binghe out of regret- he wants to protect his kid and the system forced him into a perverted, warped version of that

Binghe has some degree of victimhood in his own right, but posturing about how he "didn't want to hurt shizun" doesn't at all negate the fact that he does, and he will never stop hurting him

There is absolutely a gray area here, but binghe is a significantly darker gray than shen

I think this is made clearer by the scene in book 4, where even though it's "consensual", it's just shen attempting to placate a crying, dangerous toddler and deluding himself into thinking that he's okay with it
