A bit of ACOTAR discourse I've not seen is how terrifying the Autumn Court and Beron are.
Yes, we talk about Beron being a monster. Yes, we talk about him being the eldest High lord and an extremely cunning one at that, but we don't discuss how blindingly horrid the aspect of a highly intelligent fire-wielder is.
But, Rhysand is the most powerful!
What metrics are we looking at here? Because Rhysand hardly has a handle on Velaris, let alone the under court and Illyria. His court is 3 courts wearing a trenchcoat, pretending they're unified. Half of ACOWAR was Rhys trying to unify them for a central purpose. You know who doesn't have that issue? Beron. Yes, Rhysand has the others beat in raw power, but that is meaningless when his army is fragmented and self-serving.
Beron, who has outlived every other High Lord. Beron, who has played the game longer than them all. Beron, who has raised his sons to be perfect killers, willing to even take the lives of their own brothers at his command. Beron Vanserra, who has an entire army of firelings at his disposal, who are unified and willing to act at his command. Beron, who wanted to wait out the situation with Hybern because it wasn't worth his time.
The Autumn army isn't as large as Night, but while Rhysand would be scrabbling to bring his own men to heel, Beron could decimate the entire court. Based on his actions towards his family, Beron wouldn't have scruples regarding civilians either. He could apply scorched earth policies in a march to the sea in days on a whim. The only Court who would have a solid defense against him is Summer, with their water magics. Even then, water eventually evaporates.
So, tell me, who is really the most powerful high lord. The one who can't maintain his own court or the one who could blaze all of Prythian because they inconvenienced him?
Beron is a monster, but we should probably be thankful he isn't *worse*.
"One thought from me, and your city will burn.ā€ ā€œIt is stone,ā€ Maeve snapped. Celaena smiled. ā€œYour people aren’t."

ā€œIf it is a love match, then they risk knowing their enemies will go after him to punish her.ā€ Arghun smiled as if to say he was already thinking of doing so.
Chaol snorted, and the prince straightened. ā€œGood luck to anyone who tries to go after Rowan Whitethorn.ā€
ā€œBecause Aelin will burn them to ash?ā€ Hasar asked with poisoned sweetness.
But it was Kashin who answered softly, ā€œBecause Rowan Whitethorn will always be the person who walks away from that encounter. Not the assailant.ā€

ā€œI want to be able to fight alongside my men again,ā€ Chaol said quietly. ā€œTo die beside them.ā€

And part of Yrene wondered, as she trudged through the palace, if Lord Chaol had not asked her to stop not just because he’d learned how to manage pain, but also because he somehow felt he deserved it.

He was done with politics and intrigue. He loved her, and no empire, no king, and no earthly fear would keep him from her. No, if they tried to take her from him, he’d rip the world apart with his bare hands. And for some reason, that didn’t terrify him.

There is something very wrong with this world, he thinks, a world in which of the four of them— him, JB, Willem, and Malcolm— the two best people, the two kindest and most thoughtful, have died, and the two poorer examples of humanity have survived.

ACOSF, except that Nesta refuses to move to the House of Wind and packs her bags to leave to the "human lands", but instead of actually going there, she stops at the Spring Court and kinda forces Tamlin to take her in. After all, Spring is close enough to the human lands and she's sure none of the IC would look for her Spring.
She and Tamlin clash at first, but then Nesta tells him that Feyre wanted to lock her in the House of Wind for "her own good" and Tamlin has to take a walk outside the house to not break anything because what the fuck? Those people haven't forgiven him for locking Feyre up to protect her and make him miserable because of it, but suddenly it's okay when they do it? Unbelievable.
They drink together and bond over the Night Court's hypocrisy, how they were treated by them, and Feyre. They start living together. Tamlin plays the music and Nesta dances to it. They spend time in silence in his library or taking relaxing strolls around the garden. Nesta does more healing there that she could've done in the House of Wind. Eventually, she and Tamlin become good friends.
Oh, and she meets Eris again and they actually get to know each other outside the Night Court's machinations. They have a slowburn romance and get married eventually, turning Nesta into the High Lady of Autumn. She helps Tamlin rebuild his court and strikes an alliance between both courts, and she thrives with positive relationships and a man that genuinely loves her and doesn't try to change her.
Also Lucien makes up with Tamlin and returns to Spring, adding him to Nesta's friendship circle.

ā€œNone of this is your fault.ā€
ā€œThen why does it feel that way?ā€ she muttered faintly.
He sighed, looking out of the window toward the empty beach in front of him.
ā€œBecause we love them. And when we watch them crumble before our eyes, we think we failed in trying to save them.ā€

"...You bear many names, and so I shall name you as well.ā€
Her hand rose to Celaena’s forehead and she drew an invisible mark.
ā€œI name you Elentiya.ā€
She kissed the assassin’s brow.
ā€œI give you this name to use with honor, to use when other names grow too heavy. I name you Elentiya, ā€˜Spirit That Could Not Be Broken.’ ā€

ā€œCelaena.ā€ She looked back at him, her red gown sweeping around her. His eyes shone as he flashed her a crooked grin. ā€œI missed you this summer.ā€
She met his stare unflinchingly, returning the smile as she said, ā€œI hate to admit it, Sam Cortland, but I missed your sorry ass, too.ā€
He merely chuckled before he strode toward the party, his hands in his pockets.

ā€˜He stole your smile,’ she whispers, tears clinging to dark lashes. ā€˜No wonder you didn’t have one to give me.’
Regret rams into me once again, her words a reminder of every missed opportunity to make her smile with one of my own.
ā€˜I’ll find one,’ I murmur. ā€˜Steal it back if I must. For you.’
