since I’ve been gone

LMAO it’s been awhile since I’ve been active on tumblr (twitter is more my thing now) BUT despite being in year 12, I kind of still didn’t hit pause on the dramas, so here’s a summary of the dramas I’ve watched since I last appeared here, and my thoughts

while you were sleeping

a drama with heaps of twists and turns, with just the right amount of romance and humour. I loved suzy’s character (especially when she just showed up and did her thing !!) and it’s definitely in my top 10.

also made me fall in love with jung hae in (see something in the rain section below for a wholeass rant about how precious he is)

strongest deliveryman

I loved choi kang soo’s loyalty and determination to succeed despite all the odds that were thrown his way, and I loved that lee dan ah was such a badass (I’m a huge sucker for strong female characters). definitely an enjoyable drama with a sprinkle of humour, cuteness and a lil bit of romance, amongst your typical unfair power struggle storyline (ugh rich people)

also, really not complaining about go kyung pyo’s smile (at all)

age of youth/age of youth 2

definitely in my top 5 kdramas. I LOVED THIS DRAMA SO MUCH. I love how the basis of it is just 5 college girls’ every day lives as they live together, but it gives so much room for growth and character development which is executed amazingly, and in only 12 episodes too. I just found myself falling in love with these girls so much !! and here’s why i loved some of them

I felt so much for yoon jin myung, who was constantly hard working and had to grow up so quickly and shoulder so many responsibilities. the way she was forced to take so much crap and then the moment she snapped, I!! felt!! that !! (also I spent the whole first season hoping she’d finally get something good to happen to her !! also chef guy is a cutie but sadly he doesn’t appear often in season 2)

jung ye eun faces her own shit in a way, from her abusive relationship to mental health problems (which her friends just intensify ugh) and her family frankly not giving a shit. however, she powers through it all with the help of her true friends, emerging the happy bunny she was before (but much stronger)

whilst kang yi na’s headstrong personality often led to countless arguments with some of the girls (esp ye eun), I loved that she always said things as it was, and never tried to sugarcoat everything. her own storyline and struggles causes you to feel for her just as much as any of the other girls, and you knew that regardless of what she would amidst a squabble, she always had the belle epoque girls’ back, no matter what.

song ji won always added humour to the drama (and her story really begins to take off in season 2), watchig eun jae come out of her shell (only to be replaced by another actress, in which her story becomes a lil annoying in season 2) and jo eun, the newest addition in season 2 also makes the drama extremely enjoyable.

I also loved that it wasn’t your typical overdramatic kdrama with the classic car crash, family death, expectant parents and some tragic childhood that ties the two main leads together resulting in relationship issues, and ultimately a happy ending. It discussed so many topics that are often taboo in society, and in a way, almost normalising them and addressing them as things that ARE prevalent in society, such as abusive relationships (both romantic and with elders), euthanasia, the struggle for success in the entertainment industry etc.

I JUST LOVE THIS DRAMA SO SO MUCH PLEASE WATCH !!

mad dog

whilst the drama has an overall serious note throughout (it is about insurance fraud), it’s not as boring as it sounds. there are moments of humour, teamwork and a lil bit of romance, but it’s an enjoyable suspenseful drama (especially if you’re into those political/action type dramas, like k2, yongpal and healer)

also woo do hwan’s looks in this drama ugh (ryu hwa young’s are just as good too, tbh I watched this bc I loved her in age of youth so much)

and the bromance is pretty cute too (’:

i’m not a robot

just a really cute, enjoyable drama where a guy who’s been lonely and betrayed throughout his life finds joy, friendship and love in one of the most unlikely places: a robot that in unknowingly human

judge vs judge

if i’m honest, I can’t really remember much about this drama except that it had like 0 romance (but lots of tension dsljflds) and a hecKIN bigass plot twist !! honestly a pretty vanilla legal draa (there’s better ones out there like while you were sleeping and suits, but it’s nice if you like ones that focus solely on legal stuff)

who are you: school 2015

idk if i’d watched too many dramas at this point (i think I watched this druing a break period where I had nothing else to do BUT watch dramas) but I remember reading recaps on dramabeans or something and then skipping to the parts I wanted to see (aka cute tae kwang moments or eun byeol just kicking so young’s ass). might’ve just been the timing of watching it, but it was kinda a bleh drama (not that great, but not that bad either)

romantic doctor teacher kim

OKAY THIS !! IS MY FAVOURITE MEDICAL DRAMA OF ALL TIME!! (I’m so sorry descendants of the sun, but romantic doctor teacher kim just right above you)

I’m trash for medical dramas (doctors, doctor stranger, yongpal, dots) but I loved romantic doctor teacher kim because there was so much character development, cute hospital family moments, a lil bit of drama/tension and just the right amount of squeal-worthy romance moments (though they were awfully concentrated), but most of all I loved how it seemed like the most accurate potrayal of medicine out of all the dramas I’ve seen (small things like the way they used a defibrilator and how when they used it the heartbeat didn’t immediately come back after the shock like other medical dramas I appreciated LMAO)

I’ve rewatched this drama waay too many times to count ugh I love it so much

great seducer

was excited for this drama bc I’m a reveluv trash and gotta support my sooyoung, and woo do hwan was great in mad dog but it was kind of an underwhelming drama (and i gotta come out and say it - se joo deserved better)

- i liked choi soo ji but she turned into kind of a bitch (where I couldnt even justify her actions no matter how much I tried)

- se joo deserved better (except wow THAT FIT in the final episode, he did that white shirt and ripped jeans JUSTICE)

- whilst tae hee was really sweet I hated how she was always so quick to forgive and give shi hyun chances over and over again with no explanation (heck I like a strong female lead who doesn’t stand for this kinda shit over and over again)

- shi hyun was overly manipulative, being sweet, screwing up, getting forgiveness, being sweet again, and screwing up again, and the cycle continued throughout the entire drama until tae hee finds out (he even got me thinking they were a cute as couple for awhile, until I began to see how toxic their relationship truly was)

but ugh he was a fuckin cutie the whole drama

but hey, all of the main leads were constantly serving looks every episode (like woo do hwan is such a cuite, but ugh moon ga young and joy were really DOING IT every single episode)

suits

whilst I’ve seen the american one, it actually wasn’t too bad of an adaptation! it was pretty spot on event wise from the original (although it diverted and sped up a bit to fit it all in 16 episodes), hong da ham lacked a lil bit of that sassiness that donna had (which made her so loveable in the show), but it definitely didn’t cut down on the mike/harvey bromance that was so good in the show.

what’s wrong with secretary kim

honestly, I was excited for this drama but it was kinda underwhelming. others might’ve found young joon’s personality endearing, but I just found it overly stuck up and left me wondering how the heck mi so had survived the whole 12 years working with him.

I still watched the whole drama, wondering how the heck min young looked so damn good in every outfit she wore, her skin was so damn flawless, how she walked in those heels and how her ponytail stayed impeccable (i know, it’s a drama ofc she did but hey, she probably looks this good irl too)

also I LOVED the secondary couple with kim ji a and go gwi nam. they were SO CUTE (i kinda liked their story more than the main couple

something in the rain/pretty noona buys me food

an absolutely amazing drama, until the mum finds out about the couple. just don’t bother watching after that, it’s a waste of your time. (you’ll just end up getting angry at the main girl for wanting everything she can’t have, her mum for being so damn stubborn and just wanting jung hae in’s character to run away and be happy by himself)

my id is gangnam beauty

ugh ngl I watched this bc cha eun woo is such a fuckin cutie.

but this was actually a really nice drama! there was some nice character development, and I like how it addressed the discrimination that individuals with plastic surgery can face, despite how common it appears to be in society, as well as mental helath issues like bullimia etc. and the main couple is just really fuckin cute

I also loved how the girls (well, except hyun soo ah and her friend) all stood up for one another against the toxic mentality of the guys in their club. fuck yes we love girl power !! and I loved how hyun jung embraced the rejection of woo young like a champ, showing that even if you like someone, sometimes it isn’t meant to be

yongpal

if you love dramas that are big on dramtic politics and rich family members trying to kill one another (LMAO we love what power and money can do to you!!) yongpal is a great one with a touch of medical/action with it. it kind of reminded me of k2, which is also a great drama, so if you liked k2 definitely give yongpal a try!

my daughter’s men - season 1, 2, 3, 4 (airing)

i know this is a drama post but UGH THIS IS SUCH A FUCKIN GOOD VARIETY SHOW !!

it’s basically where the fathers watch their daughter’s date and slfjkdsl it’s so fuNNY

if i’m honest, i skipped some girls’ storylines in season 1, 2 and 3 if I found them boring, but some of the girls I fell in love with and couldn’t wait to see what came next. like mi ja?? she was hilarious I loved her more than I liked any of the guys she dated LMAO also yeonji was so pretty and I related to seok hee so much with her being awkward and shy (also I swear 90% of the guys on this show are so freaking cute and they’re like not actors?? they’re real man)

and having so jin and heechul as celebrity hosts makes the show so much better

ugh so that’s it for my longASS review of a bunch of kdramas I’ve seen (and probably nobody is going to see it so I just wasted an hour and a half of my time but hey it was great listening to day6′s days gone by on loop for the whole time !!

tl;dr: watch age of youth, romantic doctor teacher kim and my daughter’s men, you won’t regret it.
