What are you most proud of with your writing process?
In my writing process I am most proud of my progress in revision. When I say revision I don't necessarily mean spelling and punctuation. What I mean is, writing a piece and then when I re-read it, finding the best most concise way to say it. I have, over this term, reworked my sentence structure, eliminated words and phrases completely and increased my vocabulary so that I might convey my thoughts more efficiently. It has also been fun to match my writing style to the assignment and challenge myself to adhere to the requirements of the audience.

What do you like most about your learning?
I like that I have reached a point in my education where things I am learning in one class, apply to another. I am nose deep in rhetoric right now. The rhetorical situation, rhetoric in marginalized communities, online rhetoric...anything you can think of. But, what happens when you are immersed in something so deeply is, it becomes a lens through which, you view the world around you. Through that lens, I now have a higher capacity to understand more of what I am reading. I am actually starting to feel like a writer because I can apply my knowledge to my assignments and see improvement in the result.

Where will you adjust you Content Reflection to strengthen your point?
To strengthen my point in my content reflection I believe I will be adjusting my ethos. I will be writing this "essay" from the perspective of a job applicant. When answering these questions, I will be trying to establish my credibility as a writer so that I may succeed in the goal of obtaining a writing position. I believe semi-formal language will be the appropriate means through which to express my experience, source work and to find a common ground with my evaluator.

What questions doe you have about writing skill development?
So, the assignment that I feel I had the most difficulty with was the content analysis. I have a decent grasp on content strategy and the purpose that the analysis fulfills. But, I felt I lacked in determining the quantitative metrics, charting them efficiently and conveying that information to the creator. Also, I never even tried to analyze data from a qualitative perspective. So, @npfannen I guess my only question is How do I get better at this? I feel that this is a great resume builder and a marketable skill set desired by a wide range of employers. Also, I'd like to quick thank you for all of your responses to our class. I learned a great deal from these Tumblr posts!

We have really learned so much in this class this term. The web writing rhetorical situation has been the key to understanding the needs that should be met when writing online. I am also under the impression that, while understanding the key concepts is a skill that we have retained, I am not sure how to make that a marketable attribute on a resume for the "real" world. So, @npfannen , how do we name and make marketable our proficiency of these rhetorical concepts?

Share and example of your experience as a fan of a show that was cancelled.
The tv show Taboo was a well crafted interesting exploration of England in 1814. It starred Tom Hardy as James Delaney a seaman that had spent 12 years prior in Africa. He, presumed dead, was returning home after the death of his father, a tradesman that had nefarious dealings with the East India Trading Company. The show was well acted and shot. The story line was compelling and with Tom Hardy in the lead, was very character driven. He played a hardened man with a checkered past that was shrouded in mystery. They ended season 1 on a cliffhanger as James headed off to the Pacific NW in America to stake a property claim and wage a trade war with EITC. I was so disappointed that this show never produced a second season. Period pieces generally do not attract my attention but, I enjoyed the portrayals of that particular underworld. There have been whispers of a second follow-up season since 2017...pretty sure, not gonna happen. Boo.

Share and example of your favorite television show or movie. How does that show/movie help you work through this project and understand angry fandom?
I am an old lady (47) but I have loved Supernatural since it aired. I have watched all 15 seasons twice (at least). This is a television show with a huge and dedicated fandom. The show ended by choice in 2020 but the actors still continue to travel the country to headline Supernatural specific conventions. There have been action figures, internet forums and fanfic created around this series. This show helps me work through this project because, while I am not a "superfan", I understand how invested you can become in the lives of the characters. The goal of any television series is for the audience to relate in some way to the characters and their journey. There were certain choices that the writers and producers made for Supernatural that fans did not agree with. Specifically, for me, the way some characters were "killed off" (spoiler alert: Charlie) that made me upset with the show creators. After that experience, I can understand why fans would take to the internet to convey their contempt with those making decisions. Losing a character when they are killed off or a show when it is cancelled is a form of betrayal (minor as it may be) of the investment, dedication and love that the audience gives and can not be taken lightly.

I work in the restaurant industry. 86'd means we have run out of something..."dinner special is 86'd." It can also mean that we'd like something or someone to go away or not come back..."that drunk guy at the bar is 86'd!"

Captions seem to be one of the major keys to instagram reels. Interestingly, I hadn't really though about it. I use captions a lot in my life. I usually have them on when I stream tv and movies so I forget that they are there. They have become a part of my consumption. But, I really DO notice when they are gone. This is definitely an important element in engagement. Good Tip!
Style Rule for Creating an Instagram Reel
Focus on eye-catching visuals within the first 3 seconds. Start with movement or vibrant colors to grab attention as users scroll. Use clear captions or text overlays to highlight key points, and keep the video under 30 seconds to maintain engagement. Soundtracks that align with trends or themes also increase appeal.

I wanted to reblog your post because I feel that this is a very comprehensive explanation of why people listen to long podcasts. Several of the reasons you listed are the reasons why I do. I think that finding the niche is the key to a successful podcast. One can find that niche with subject matter and fandom or with the guest/host dynamic. Something has to draw the listener in to keep them engaged for long format.
original post(3/3)
The appeal of long podcasts (20 minutes or more) is that they delve into the subject, providing viewers with more complete background information, analysis and personal insight. Viewers love long podcasts because they are often accompanied by a strong narrative, authoritative guest interviews, or in-depth analysis of complex topics, and can be learned or entertained in fragments of time such as commuting or working out. Creators engage their target audience by choosing popular or niche but appealing topics, combined with a unique perspective and high-quality content production. In addition, the friendly hosting style and the sense of interaction with the audience can also effectively enhance the stickiness of long podcasts.

This is a really great idea. With short form writing like tumblr it makes perfect sense to leave the reader with a memorable last line. If the reader finishes the post feeling intrigued or satisfied, they are more likely to follow or share. I never really though of that before. Excellent advice.
Write a style rule for writing a short Tumblr post - based on what you know so far, what is a key rule for getting notices?
Style Rule: End with a Memorable Line
When writing a short Tumblr post, make your last line memorable. Whether it’s a clever twist, an emotional takeaway, or a bold statement, it should leave readers thinking—or feeling compelled to share. A strong closing line ties the post together and sticks with your audience after they scroll.
This works because Tumblr thrives on connection and reblogs. Posts that resonate emotionally or intellectually are more likely to be shared, creating a ripple effect that helps your content reach beyond your immediate followers. By focusing on how your post ends, you ensure it lingers in the minds of your audience, increasing engagement and visibility.

Hi @npfannen I just had a quick question for you regarding Favorite Show. Can I take the genre, plotline and characters (not using names or other identifiers) as my subject for Favorite Show? Or do we have to come up with something ourselves? Are we actually posting all of these posts on socials? For example, if I create instagram posts...am I just incorporating them into a document? Also, do the studios write the cancellation posts? I usually see them on industry sites...I only ask because I am trying to get the language right...would the studio be matter-of-fact, apologetic etc...?
Thanks you!

Explain the appeal of long podcasts. Why do audiences listen and how do creators make choices to engage?
The appeal of the long podcast is that subject matter presented can be thoroughly examined in a longer time frame. Audiences listen to long podcasts because they are either invested in the host or the subject matter. If it is the host that the listener enjoys, that host must choose to be educated and prepared to interview or discuss that episode's subject matter. Or they must be experts in their particular field. The host should have a keen awareness of current events and trends to maintain a level of relevance. If it is the subject matter that the audience enjoys, the creator should present a thorough exploration of the podcast topic.

Write a style rule for an Instagram reel. Why is this key?
I think a style rule for Instagram reels is good lighting. Lighting sets the mood for the vidoe so having an awareness of where your light is coming from (in front, behind, above or below) can make a big difference in how the subject is presented. Instagram reels are small upright screen videos and it seems that lighting is an effective way to make sure that it looks pleasing and professional.

Write a style rule for writing a short Tumblr post. What is a key for getting noticed?
From what I have experienced on Tumblr, as a style rule, include some type of picture, graphic or gif. A well chosen pictorial element helps the post get noticed. Tumblr is a blogging platform and there are an infinite amount of interesting thoughts and ideas posted within. But, when the context has so much reading to choose from, it is hard to filter through what interests you. This type of addition, particularly when the pic/graphic/gif is related to the content, gives the post an opportunity to stand out and be noticed. Its kind of like picking a bottle of wine by the label, you may not know what is inside but the outside caught your attention so you invested in the product.

What is my favorite snack food to stay motivated?
I have been living on carbs and sugar for like four weeks now. School is kicking my butt. So, my two favorites are Skor bars and Hi-Chews (mango are the BEST).

Hello,
I think that the "block" style is a great way to help this information stand out. I am having a hard time discerning the header though. Perhaps you can make the Tips and Why it Works bigger that the other text? Maybe center justify the headers and put the rest of the information underneath. Also, a little more space between the blocks might help each stand out more, individually, and fill up the space of the page. Hope this helps a little. Best of Luck!
Peer Input Request
Hi! Could you take a look at the layout here? I’m trying to make sure my headers stand out but don’t feel too “blocky.” Do you think the colors and spacing help with readability, or should I simplify even more? Thanks for any feedback!
