My personal theory on the head size thing: Physical costuming constraints. I've only made 2 fursuit heads, but first one was so much bigger than I meant for it to be. You build the base out of foam and then cover it with fur, which adds to the size. It can look fantastic at the foam stage and then be unreasonably huge once you add the fur.
But also, it's a little complicated to make a good looking animal face where the eyes line up with a human's eyes so that they can see out of the mask. Some of the smaller or more realistic ones have you looking out of tiny mesh bits at the corners of the eyes instead of the eyes themselves, which makes wearing them less fun in my opinion.
And then on top of that, if you want those "3d" illusion eyes, you have to make it bigger so you can inset them, or the illusion doesn't work. Did you want to fit a fan in the head so you're not dying of heat stroke while wearing it? Gotta build it bigger.
If you want a Beatrix Potter kind of look, you often have to do it by bulking up the body instead of shrinking the head. That means the body suit is going to be even hotter, less comfortable, and harder to wash.
On cleaning: No you're right. Cleaning fursuits is hard. Most people try to avoid getting them any dirtier or messier than they need to be, but washing them is a soak in the bathtub situation followed by a nightmare of trying to get it dry without letting it mildew (at least it was in the south).
Another fun fact, furries often bring special fans with them to cons and immediately put the fursuit head on the fan to dry out the inside after wearing and sweating in it. It's also suggested to wear underarmor or some kind of sweat wicking clothes under a suit you plan on wearing for awhile, both because the inside of suits generally aren't lined, and because you can wash the clothes much easier than you can the suit.
I love and support furries some might say I am a furry so please dont take this the wrongnway
when it comes to fursuits I've never understood why the dominant style is 90s Disney shaped? But perhaps I need to increase my awareness of the spectrum of fursuits. If I had a fursuit it would look more like a Beatrix Potter illustration. hat I'm trying to say is why heads so big? I enjoy more proportionally realistic anthro most of the time unless it's Chococat or Hello Kitty.
Another concern I have is I just get stressed out when I think of any kind of clothes that are not easy to clean. Is it hard to keep a fursuit clean? I fear if I wore one I would immediately spill mustard on it and itnwould cost $39,000 to clean. I have several sequin shirts that I do not wear ever for the same reason.
Anyway furries rule. I am babbling. Welcome to my blog

Oh my gosh. I just found this website that walks you though creating a believable society. It breaks each facet down into individual questions and makes it so simple! It seems really helpful for worldbuilding!

It's ok to be a burden. You're a picnic basket, not a boulder.
There's no picnic without you.
“I don’t want to be a burden” you’re more like a relief, a gift, a blessing actually

Evolved from the humble siphonophore, the siphonosiren spirals through the dark seas, using sound and light to lure unsuspecting prey into her stinging tentacles.
I have been thinking about this since last merMay, I hope you like it!
[Img id: A digital painting of a mermaid built like a siphonophore, a jellyfish like colony of beings arranged in string. The mermaid has twelve translucent torsos, all waving their arms. Each has hair like tendrils coming out of their head. After the string of torsos is a bundle of jellyfish like bells, followed by a long tail covered in delicate tentacles with glowing red and yellow lures on them. /end id]

Finally made a second siphonosiren! This one is based on Physophora hydrostatica. ...at least visually. I had trouble finding more information, so they may not eat fish in the real world, but this siphonosiren does. This was done in Illustrator.
The first one was done in Krita, and you can find it here.
If you like this, you could get it on stuff at Redbubble here.

A new siphonosiren image. I have trouble worldbuilding for the siphonosirens because I imagine that since each "one" is a plurality, each "one" has a different view on things.

Met a cool person tonight and they told me about sea slugs and I told them about siphonophores. I was probably a bit awkward because it's been a long week, but it was good stuff :)

Some Siphonophore studies. I love looking at these critters. If you aren't familiar, siphonophores (not to be confused with my fantasy species siphonosirens), are a real animal that lives in the oceans. Each specimen is actually a colony of animals that can't survive without each other and come together to form a whole.

Periodic rent-lowering-gunshots:
Fiction is not reality.
You can enjoy things in fiction that would be awful in the real world. Like playing a murderhobo in a game! In the real world, being or supporting a murderer-thief would be pretty damn awful, while in the game it's just good fun. Same with anything else you choose to do with the pixels on the screen, like kinks that don't affect anyone real, so they're okay in fiction, but would be pretty damn bad in real life.
No one else is responsible for your online experience. They are required not to harass you, but they are not and never will be obligated to not post about ships, kinks, or tropes you dislike just to avoid you seeing them. It's up to you to blacklist words or phrases, block tags, or even block users as needed to avoid seeing content that upsets you.
No one can force you to read anything against your consent. Any content you don't like seeing can be instantly avoided by closing out of the offending post/fic.
You are not owed an online experience free of discomfort.
Nothing that happens in your imagination can ever make you a bad person. Words you write or read about fictional characters will never make you a bad person.
The claim that media consumption influences real-life behavior is intellectually dishonest and serves only to excuse the behavior of real offenders.
Fiction is a safe way to explore horrifying or confusing concepts. Therapists agree that fiction, even (or especially) about taboo topics is a good coping mechanism, especially, but not exclusively, for trauma survivors. Fiction is to adults what play therapy is to children. This doesn't stop being true if the work in question is of a sexual nature.
Sex isn't an inherently worse or better motivation than anything else. A work written to create feelings of arousal isn't dirty, shameful, or in any way less pure than works written to entertain, provoke moral questions, or for other reasons. And worth noting is that multiple purposes can exist in the same story, especially fanfiction.
You aren't entitled to an explanation for why someone reads, writes, or otherwise enjoys certain works, kinks, tropes, ships, etc.

Ugh. Why is Oregon specifically worse?
The People's CDC has put out a new COVID-19 Weather Report.
Highlights:
Wastewater trends show that the amount of COVID in wastewater is remaining relatively stable at low or very low levels across the country.
Billions of dollars set aside for COVID-19 relief funds were terminated on March 24 of this year by the Trump administration. In response, the District of Columbia and 16 states sued, and courts recently said that the funds should be restored to DC and to the states that were listed in the suit.
LP.8.1 remains the dominant variant in the US and worldwide, though a new variant, NB.1.8.1 has been leading to increased cases in the eastern Mediterranean, Southeast Asia and western Pacific regions. So far, it has been detected at some airport screenings in the US, but it has not made it to high enough levels to be reported on our variant tracker– though it could be a possible reason for the high levels of COVID noted in Guam. The WHO notes this “variant under monitoring” does not seem to be more transmissible or more dangerous than other circulating variants. Importantly, WHO also notes that current vaccines should offer protection from this new variant.
Last week, the FDA announced in a comment in the New England Journal of Medicine that they will be limiting vaccines to people over 65 and those with certain health conditions. This decision is very dangerous. COVID vaccines protect people of all ages from severe infection and death. They’re essential for protecting pregnant people and their babies up to six months after birth.
Last week, RFK released his MAHA (“Make America Healthy Again”) report, using citations that don’t exist, and making scientifically unsupported claims.
Earlier last month, a report on Transgender care was produced with the help of eight so-called “distinguished scholars,” who were apparently so ashamed of their work that they didn’t want their names revealed. (Of course, the administration argues that their names were withheld to “maintain the integrity of this process.”) The report is garbage: It goes against all of the current best practices and recommendations made by major medical organizations. You can read the American Academy of Pediatrics’ response to the report here.
