This week... I turned 37. I left for a 3 week road trip with my husband to see 6 national parks. I packed 2 masks, too many clothes and 8 books. I published my third episode of a podcast I have high hopes for but am allowing myself to be an amateur in its first season (@thejestofit). I posted too much for my own liking and not enough for the “business” about my first virtual comedy show (this Sunday, link in profile for tickets. Daily post—check). I got to hand deliver a commissioned painting and explain why it was my hardest painting to date, I hope to share it at some point with permission to share its story. I’ve mostly shy-ed away from social media and find myself less irritated and more grateful. Yet I know social media has benefits and uses, and I appreciate a medium to share what creativity and hopefully value I have to offer. I value what I’ve learned from others who’ve used social media as a tool to share insight, perspective and humor. I’m finding more balance... most of the time. Sometimes I forget the balance thing, and the whole bag of chips sounds delicious. I’m 37. Old to some, young to others, oddly okay with right where I am at. I’m still uncertain sometimes of what this life thing all means and what the point is (I’ve contemplated the oddity of life long before 2020 hit, 2020 just made it normal to stop and ask what is actually happening here!?). Nonetheless, despite my questions, I’m still left in awe at the sight of a sunset or the smell of coffee in the morning. I laugh at dad jokes and fart sounds, especially because I waited a year before I let Josh hear my own fart sounds. The dad jokes came much easier. We humans really are odd. I cry every time someone gets a golden buzzer on America’s Got Talent or Whitney Houston comes on the radio (I still listen to the radio). I love seeing people have their moment, being celebrated for who they are. I think that’s partly why I wanted to start a podcast sharing other people’s stories, to celebrate them. I still mean it when I sing “I laugh more often now. I cry more often now. I am more me.” (PBJ) That’s me at 37— miserably happy, confused and content, still with so much to learn. We wanted to get some “fresh” air, uncertain of where that would be, but since we’re in Nashville we decided to sight-see strictly from the car! We found some of the artists who are still trying to get stage time despite everything being closed. I wanted to show my support, but I also wasn’t leaving the car— I can give ya a yee-haw, but that’s about it!! Just wanted to see for ourselves. There’s still some sparkle left in this dark world... aisle 9 at Walmart Supercenter in Shepherdsville, KY. . While we only bought a bag of pretzels and coconut water, Josh and I have definitely been hoarding memes throughout the day and then we share our favorites and laugh together at night. . We’re not laughing AT the severity of the situation and the ways in which some people, especially my elderly friends, really are in danger... but we’re finding humor in the midst of a crazy time which keeps one sane enough to only buy what they need, even in a time of panic. . YAY, it’s you!! Sinceriously. Thanks for being here and taking part in some of this journey with me! Social Media is a funny thing, I feel connected and disconnected at the same time. I try to celebrate others successes instead of compare my journey to theirs, but let’s be honest, sometimes it’s hard. I want to capture a moment without missing a moment because I watched it from behind a screen.
