“I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says “Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.”

Forget the #PSL. For me, the trademark of early fall is when the @lecreuset comes out of hiding and moves to it’s seasonal home on my stove. From that point until mid-May there is almost always something bubbling in that sturdy blue pot, filling our little cape with the warmth and the smells that make a home.
Orange root vegetables, warm spices, and a dollop of yogurt make for a perfectly balanced, nutrient rich soup to warm your belly and welcome the soft chill of fall.

In practicing yoga, it’s important that we stay away from becoming fundamentalists. No one system has all the answers. Just do the series and you’re going to get enlightened? No, if you’re 54 years old, you’re not going to put your leg in Half Lotus and fold forward in the first 20 minutes of class. Please, that’s not a good idea. Ashtanga is a very, very demanding sequence, and very often I think people take the sequence to be more important than the fundamental yoga principles like ahimsa. The heart of ashtanga is heat, concentration, personal practice. Take these bigger guidelines of the sequence and apply them to the individual so that their practice serves them.

A chickpea leaps almost over the rim of the pot where it’s being boiled. ‘Why are you doing this to me?’ The cook knocks him down with the ladle. ‘Don’t you try to jump out. You think I’m torturing you. I’m giving you flavor, so you can mix with spices and rice and be the lovely vitality of a human being. Remember when you drank rain in the garden. That was for this.’ Grace first. Sexual pleasure, then a boiling new life begins, and the Friend has something good to eat. Eventually the chickpea will say to the cook, ‘Boil me some more. Hit me with the skimming spoon. I can’t do this by myself. I’m like an elephant that dreams of gardens back in Hindustan and doesn’t pay attention to his driver. You’re my cook, my driver, my way into existence. I love your cooking.’ The cook says, ‘I was once like you, fresh from the ground. Then I boiled in time, and boiled in the body, two fierce boilings. My animal soul grew powerful. I controlled it with practices, and boiled some more, and boiled once beyond that, and became your teacher. - Rumi

There's No Place Like Home for the Holidays
The holidays are a special time to focus (literally and figuratively) on family, though I admit the Doodle was the object of most of our attention. We had a wonderful few weeks of celebration here in CT. From a Christmas Eve hike through the lake, to a day full of pajamas, food, and family, we enjoyed every moment.
