Today I wanted to spotlight Black accounts from the #Disney and #Cosplay communities that have so much magic and may not be on your radar. These accounts are in no particular order, and I want to emphasize that lists are not enough. They are not enough if we are not genuinely engaging with #blackcontentcreators .. if you go to your follow list who are you primarily following? There are some amazing accounts that do not get the engagement that they deserve. While these are a few of the many amazing accounts, @colormemagic and @blackgirldisney have more accounts that you can follow or add to the lists. If you also have awesome Black Cosplay accounts (not necessarily Disney) to add to the comments please share. While we are being muted, please remember that we can still use our platforms to share Black content, news, and businesses. Today is #blackouttuesday but what does that mean? There are actually two different meanings right now. . . . 1) One initiative seeks to redress the historic inequities of the music business by declaring Tuesday to be a one-day moratorium on business as usual — alternately known as #TheShowMustBePaused, Blackout Tuesday and Black Out Tuesday — as a means of identifying with protesters and considering how the music business can become more accountable to the black communities from which it profits. . . . 2) Blackout Tuesday, a day promoted by activists to observe, mourn and bring about policy change in the wake of the death of George Floyd. This movement has spread on social media, where organizations, brands and individuals are posting solemn messages featuring stark black backgrounds. I In an on-going effort to #amplifymelanatedvoices my content on my feed for @happiestjenonearth will be muted and paused for the rest of the week. I stand with @jessicawilson.msrd and @blackandembodied to directly elevate voices that need the space 🖤💫 Until then, I will be sharing content from the black community. This is your platform, your turn to have your voices heard. . . To those not in the black community, while this has been listed as a “June Challenge” please do not think of it as a trend. Use this time to educate yourself and be proactive. Have you read any books by Black authors? Have you signed any petitions? Have you written to your government officials about change? 🖤PERSONAL POST🖤 I have been hesitant about going too personal into my life as I like to keep things light hearted on here. Fair warning, there’s a high possibility this caption might extend into the comments. As some of you may or may not know, there have been a lot of friends in the #Disney community who have not received such kind remarks on their content. While we all must be considerate to what is happening right now, we should not make others feel bad for wanting to also post about other parts of their lives whether that be wanting to support Pride week, celebrating their birthdays, or wanting to simply share achievements. We can support while also supporting other social issues and wanting to celebrate milestones and achievements. It has also come to my attention that some people are telling other Disney influencers to not be so political and to stick to what they know. It is not in anybody’s right to silence other people. We are lucky to have such platforms on which we can bring awareness to social issues which are important. If you know me, you know that my family is diverse on its own and we are open to many cultural beliefs, ideas, and so forth. I am half Filipina and half white while my husband is Black, Filipino, and Native American. Yes, that makes our kids pretty mixed. In America, if you are part of a minority you are considered more of whatever that minority is. For example, I am not fully accepted as white because I’m half Filipina. I have even had a past coworker tell me that it “wasn’t the same.” And Antonio was always just seen as Black—many Filipinos and Asians did not see him as more. I will not digress too much as I do not want to be the focus. It is only to illustrate that this is what made me and him cling onto each other. When you are American you are considered white, everybody else must hyphenate. This is a harsh truth. The system of race goes a long way back and you must do a lot of research to really grasp it. Without black people, many of us other minorities would not have the rights that we do today. It is never too early to talk about race with your kids. By the age of 2.5, children start to choose who they play with in social settings by race. You probably never thought that this young you would have to worry about this issue, but the truth of the matter is our kids learn from our behaviors the second they are born. We want to encourage you to have not one moment, but open up the door to having this ongoing conversation with your children.

🐻MAY 27: #Disney character and song that lifts your spirits! . . For this challenge, I chose Kenai from Brother Bear! I think that it goes without saying that a lot could be learned from this movie. I know it’s underrated, so if you haven’t seen it you really should give it a chance. The song from this movie that lifts my spirits up is “Look through my eyes” by Phil Collins.
