Watch My Interview on Instagram Live with the Artist Oasis
Interview on Instagram Live with the Artist Oasis
I was recently interviewed by the Artist Oasis. They are a network of artists in Philadelphia that encourages cross-genre collaborations and provides resources for working artists. In the interview, we talk about my background. We talked about how I got started in photography, video, art, music, and how I formed The Philadelphia Globe (www.philaglobe.com). We talked about what I’m currently working on and my plans for everything in the future. And then we talked about a whole lot more…
Check it out!
PS. skim forward to around 6 min in (where we actually get started) or to 23 min in (if you would like to skip the part where I’m talking while driving back from picking up dinner for my mom, who I have stayed with for this first part of quarantine)!
Enjoy 😘

Audio + Visual Content Creation Hub - Partnership with Range Recording Studio
Welcome to Range x JS Media.
Statement from Jen and record producer, Aaron Levinson:
After both surviving Corona and being locked away from society for months on end something really amazing went down when Jen Strogatz and Aaron Levinson of Range Recording Studio joined creative forces to create an entirely new turnkey agency for multi-media production and artist services.
Aaron and Jen share a common philosophy and attention to detail when it comes to what they do. Whether it’s creating a social media campaign or recording a jazz septet all of these essential services and skills are now living under one spectacular umbrella. Located in chill Ardmore, PA in a private and secure location we can’t wait to get out of our hibernation and create memorable and unique content for the many clients we already serve and so may more to come.
This “hub” is for everyone from backpacker hiphop to classical soloists, the range of what we can achieve is only limited by the needs and desires of our customers. In another time, corporate owned record companies and media companies did all of this back end services and just let the artist focus on the art. Now in 2020, Jen and Aaron believe that there is a dramatic need for independent artists to be given the chance to work on a complete project from start to finish. This consistency and quality is apparent when viewing the final product. Like everyone out there, we cannot wait to get back in the fray and open our audio and visual content production hub to the public! We are ecstatic with what we’ve been able to put together and know that all of you will be too.
For more info and bookings, contact us at [email protected]

Much love,

Music Video for "Giddy Up" by Feese
"Giddy Up" by Feese - Music Video
Video shoot for ‘Giddy Up’ off of his newest album, DYED - shot for Feese.
[ in Center City, Philadelphia. ]
Okay.
So, I am in love with this new music video that I shot of Feese, a really talented rapper from right here in Philly. I love how this video turned out and we had such a blast making it. Feese is a good friend and happens to not only be absolutely hilarious, but he’s also really creative and has an excellent vision of what he wants his music, image, brand, everything to look like before it is put out into the world. I love that about him and he made shooting this video such a blast. I mean, we are dancing in the middle of Broad Street.
Enough said….

Lettuce at The Anthem feat. Ghost-Note and Antibalas [Elevate Tour ~ 2019]
Lettuce at The Anthem in D.C. during their Elevate Tour with Ghost-Note and Antibalas was such a blast. I had shot their show in Philadelphia not too long before this, so I knew them all already and Ryan [Zoidis] was kind enough to leave me a photo pass and a couple tickets to the show and after-party at the VIP entrance. The Anthem was HUGE. I think that was the largest stage I’d ever shot on, it was very cool. When I first got in, Ryan was super cool and texted me to make sure I was all set and he came out to say hey before the Antibalas opened up, so I went back with him up to the dressing rooms. This place was like a maze backstage, I mean, there were multiple staircases (3 floors?) to get to the dressing rooms and I am not ashamed to say that I most definitely got lost back there a few times throughout that night. The energy was really fun and I think everyone was feeling good and excited because Lettuce had just recently been nominated for a 2020 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Instrumentalist (hence the Grammy cake…), and I can’t think of another band more deserving! These guys are super cool and down-to-earth, not to mention seriously skilled musicians. I had always thought that they were more of a “jam band,” solely because I remember seeing them on lineups (circa 2009/2010 probably) that were primarily made up of that new-age jamband/ electronic scene, but they are so much more than that… I mean, they are seriously FUNKY! They are also not like the notoriously douche-y, egocentric jamband-y type guys, either, which I personally respected about them a lot. They’re all just sweet, down-to-earth guys who I truly enjoyed hanging with!

Then there’s Ghost-Note, an equally amazing band/ musical collective, which is made up of a really talented cast of characters, such as Sput (Robert Searight), Nate Werth, Jelani Brooks, Pete Knudsen, Xavier Taplin, MonoNeon (Dwayne Thomas) - who I have, for some reason, developed some sort of strange beef with. Or possibly… not actual beef, but some weird form of sarcastic banter that goes too far because neither of us know when to quit? Well, I digress. Ghost-Note is a band that’s comprised of incredibly talent artists (also super cool guys) and I was amazed by the group’s collective amount of extraordinary musicianship on this tour.

Ron Pope and Caroline Spence at the Foundry
Ron Pope Played for a Room Full of Adoring Fans on Thursday Night at The Foundry.
[January 17, 2020]
Supporting Ron Pope was the Talented Caroline Spence
Opening for Ron Pope was Caroline Spence, a Nashville-based singer-songwriter who stole our hearts with her powerful lyrics and captivating vocals.
Caroline had a sweet and gentle nature as she spoke to the audience about love, heartbreak and honest lessons that she has learned throughout her life.
Caroline’s shy demeanor seemed to be contrasted by the powerful freakin’ warrior that she’d be transformed into every time she would transition from story telling back into belting out her lyrics while strumming the acoustic guitar that she was accompanied by.
Enter Ron Pope.
After Caroline’s set was finished, Ron Pope and his (larger than expected!) band sauntered onto the stage and the Foundry, the room still a bit cold from the snow outside, was immediately lit up by the excitement that the packed audience could no longer contain. It was then that it became clear to us that Ron Pope has a genuinely dedicated and loyal fan base who seem to have followed him throughout his entire career and personal life.
The crowd cheered and sang along to Pope’s lyrics as he played some songs from his upcoming album, Bone Structure, songs from all of his previous albums, and to really top off the night, an epic cover of Elton John’s ‘Tiny Dancer.’
Ron Pope really engaged with his audience, which I respected about him as a performer greatly, and he told us a few short stories about his life, his upcoming album, and also added in some funny anecdotes in between his songs.
The Band.
His band was also quite impressive. It included a horns section with the sax and trumpet, keys, drums, bass, violin, and 2 guitars (one of which was Ron Pope himself), not to mention his trumpet player, who just so happened to whip out an accordion mid-show, making him double as the band’s single accordion player!
We Love Girl Power.
Something that I was extremely impressed to see was the number of female musicians that were a part of Ron’s band. Playing on the guitar, the drums, and the violin, were all female musicians, and they were pretty damn badass musicians at that.
I had a fantastic time at Ron Pope’s show. Going into it, I had really only known one of Ron’s song, A Drop In The Ocean, plus everything that I had learned about him during our recent interview.
After leaving the Foundry that night and reflecting back on the show that I had just seen, I was not only highly impressed by Pope’s showmanship, his genuine nature and the connection with his fans, but I’ve also got to say: The man’s got SWAG.
He is 100% being entered immediately into the Best of IndependentPhilly.com Awards for Best Hair AND Best Beard.
stay tuned!

Snoop Does It Doggy Style at the Fillmore - IndependentPhilly.com
Snoop Dogg's I Wanna Thank Me Tour
[ Originally published for independentphilly.com ]
Written by Andy Blackman Hurwitz | Photography by Jen Strogatz
The first really cold night of another globally warmed winter cast a spell upon this writer and his photographer as we huddled in line at the Fillmore. Once through the doors however, we were immediately warmed by the vibe and energy inside: “Damn. Everyone’s so... happy!” remarked my partner in journalistic crime.
And by the time we checked our coats and made our way to the bar DJ Green Lantern let us know why: “We just come here to have a good mother fucking time y’all” and it was unmistakeable that everyone was following his cue.
The air was thick with the dank smells of really good weed - no kids stuff, boutique Philly “Beyond/Hello” medicinal shit -  as the thirty-something crowd threw their hands in the mother-fucking air to welcome seminal west coast rapper Warren G to the stage.     Looking mature and stately, Mister G (aka Warren Griffin III), together with Nate Dogg and Snoop, was part of the seminal trio 213 which eventually crumbled when Snoop went solo. Backed by Green Lantern himself, one of the greatest DJs in the history of the game,  G tore through a 30-minute set that displayed his (still) incredible voice, delivery and ability to celebrate the magic of Mary J. “R U High Yet?” he asked before sharing a spliff with a lucky lady in the front row who was “kind” enough to offer up her lighter.
Way before Snoop became the poster child for Weed, Warren G set the bar high with his epic “Indo-Smoke," a stoner anthem that went on to sell over 3-Million copies back in the day.  When G left the stage, Green Lantern kept the party going strong ripping through West Coast classics until suddenly... the music stopped and the room went dark.
A massive screen behind the stage flickered on to project a montage of Snoop’s greatest moments from a young thug to a modern day superstar.   Then magically  it seemed that the man of the hour jumped right out of the video and onto stage wasting no time with salutations, launching  into Next Episode to the crowds delight.
Wearing pressed kaki pants, white Converse low-tops, a Joseph and a technicolor Death Row leather jacket Snoop looked like a million bucks.    With his  trademark shades, braids to his waist and a huge Blunt in hand he proceeded to peel off hit after hit, letting the crowd know that before he was a bona fide global celebrity, he was one of the baddest ass rappers in the land.  Like a proven veteran he just threw the fuck down.   No banter, no bullshit. Strictly business.
“Bitch Please”, “Countdown”, “Snoop’s Upside Ya Head” and the 50 Cent Cover “Pimp” were all delivered with astounding freshness.  When Snoop brought Warren G on to preform the 213 hit “So Fly” (with major nods to Nate Dog) it felt like we were all back in late 1990s. The showman that he is, Snoop kept things visually interesting with a constant parade of  back up singers, mascots (the giant Nasty Dogg), strippers (on massive stripper poles on either side of the stage) and the widely entertaining video playing in the background showing a mix of home movies, football clips, gangster films and stoney treats.
One unexpected surprise was the introduction of Philly’s own legendary gangsta raper Freeway who took the energy up 3 notches with his intense performance that left Snoop sitting on one of the stage’s two picnic benches,  smoking a flat blunt and nodding with approval.    Following Freeway, Green Lantern kept the Philly vibe alive by dropping a dope Grover Washington Jr “Mister Magic” remix for Snoop who added Slick Ricks’ “Children’s Story” on top.
After a quick “smoke break” that left Lantern in control of the dance floor,  Snoop returned sans jacket to reveal a Unity T-shirt and began a “tribute” segment that began with a poignant and sincere paying of respect to the late great (and former Compton mate) Nipsy Hustle covering his song  Question #1 (which Snoop himself guested on).   The tributes kept flowing as Snoop covered some of his dead homies paying  respect  (and brining their images to life through the screen) Easy E (“Real Mother Fuckin Gs”), Biggie (“Hypnotize”)  and Pac (2 of “Amerikaz most wanted”).
Snoop brought it all back to the star of the show — himself — by asking the crowd “What’s my Mother Fucking Name?” before launching into “Big Mouth”, “Gin & Juice” and then stopping the music completely to take off his glasses, look the whole crowd in the eyes and sincerely thanking everyone before sliding into the set’s last tune — the Wiz Khalifa collab “Young Wild and Free”.
Lantern kept playing exit music as the lights went on revealing a crowd that was mixed in every way, reflecting the global attraction of Mr. Doggy Dog.   As we slowly moved out of the venue there was a common feeling of true  joy amongst all.   Sure, everyone was high as fuck, but Snoop also brings a necessary vibe of peace and love.   IT was refreshing.  Happy people celebrating life.   He’s Snoop Dogg after all - everyone’s favorite Uncle.

This is some footage from the video I shot of @nightonthesunband playing his latest single, Play Pretend. 📷 I love this song. When he first played it for me I was completely floored. Then about 2 weeks later, my brother texted me and said that he couldn’t get the lyrics out of his head, which was funny because it had been stuck in my head ever since then, too. In a good way! ☺️ 📷 Anyway, I think that Nick is such a gifted musician, but he is also such a genuinely sweet, kind soul, and that’s what I think is most unique and special about him as an artist and human. Th sometimes hard to find that out here in these streets lol/ the whole music world or so I’ve come to recognize. So, cheers, Nick - you rock 🤘🏼 Check out Independent Philly.com under Local Spotlight for the rest of the video, some photos and more on Nick 📷 . . . . : @independentphilly #independentphilly #nightonthesunband #brooklyn #philly #phillymusic #musicphotography #musicphotographers #musicvideo #new #shootandshare (at Rittenhouse Square) https://www.instagram.com/p/B58cWYpDPtM/?igshid=w37vf3e3o4be

Throwback Sat. (#Back in the day Saturday??) Whatever... Throwback to me last year playing in a ball pit. Because my inner child is strong af and I let her out to play whenever she wants. That’s important! Seriously, though... Upon recent reflection (brought about by my 30th year approaching at lightyear speed), I’ve remembered how important it is to let yourself have some good, clean, child-like fun and to be okay with it. Trying to remember not to take yourself too seriously all the time, you know? Life’s a crazy journey with all types of ups and downs and forks in the road, but when you’ve got people that love you, a connection to your spirituality #mindbodyspirit , and the ability to do the things that you love to do and that feed your soul, then that is something to be supremely grateful for! And I do, and I am... so I am stating right here right now that although I am a woman who is about to be in her 30s 😱, I don’t ever want to lose the connection that I have to my inner child- the part of me that’s silly and goofs around and doesn’t give a fuck about what I look like to others. And I am grateful that I haven’t lost sight of that (in my old age) 🙏🏼. . #dirty30club #gratitudeattitude #ilovemermaids #30daysofgratitude #sagittariusseason #longhairdontcare 😘 (at Concourse Dance Bar) https://www.instagram.com/p/B5xpulVDxTJ/?igshid=1f5jcyg2l5kir
