#tbt to @losgrowlers playing at Union Transfer. When they were here, I did a fun interview for Independent Philly with Brooks, the Growlers frontman and lead singer. I had actually never heard of the Growlers before but @aliawan.wav wanted to see them and he told me that they’ve had a big influence on his own music.⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ So me and Ali went to their show and were able to sit down beforehand with Brooks for a pretty low-key, but very informative interview. I learned about the term/genre “beach goth” which was, in fact, invented to describe The Growlers' unique sound which is hard to break down into the simple, already existing specific genres like 'alt-rock' or 'indie' or whatever.⁠⠀ I also learned how bad I am with names because I completely forgot Brooks’ name at first. Then, while we were walking onto the tour bus, I asked him, without even really thinking about it, “I’m so sorry, what was your name again?” I'm just kidding though... I already knew that I'm terrible with names 🤦🏼‍♀️ But in my defense, I didn’t realize yet that he was actually the one who I was interviewing/ the lead singer of the band. #awkward⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Anyway, it turns out that I’ve definitely heard their music before and they’re really good. They have a very cool, different, but also catchy sound going for them and I was seriously into their show... and have been listening to them since. He’s actually really interesting because he’s not only a DJ that plays electronic music. He’s also a producer and a really talented singer who happens to have also graduated from Harvard..!? Plus he’s just a super chill guy and he has a matching Jimi Hendrix tattoo so he is awesome in my book.

This is some footage from the video I shot of @nightonthesunband playing his latest single, Play Pretend. 📷 I love this song. When he first played it for me I was completely floored. Then about 2 weeks later, my brother texted me and said that he couldn’t get the lyrics out of his head, which was funny because it had been stuck in my head ever since then, too. In a good way! ☺️ 📷 Anyway, I think that Nick is such a gifted musician, but he is also such a genuinely sweet, kind soul, and that’s what I think is most unique and special about him as an artist and human. Th sometimes hard to find that out here in these streets lol/ the whole music world or so I’ve come to recognize. Les Claypool, Larry LaLonde and Tim Alexander from Primus during the @slayerbandofficial Farewell Tour • Primus is sort of brilliant. They are just so unique, I mean there’s really no one else out there that does it like they do when I sit and think about it. The last time I saw them was about 9 years ago, surprisingly enough, at Gathering of the Vibes. They were most definitely a welcome addition to that roster back in, I guess... 2010? And I was happy to get the chance to actually shoot them nowadays. So thank you, @primusville for the great performance and for saving my ear holes during this #heavymetalmusic fest. This was actually my first time being at Made In America and I have to say, they do a great job. First of all, it is HUGE. I mean, huge. And this year they had a whole section dedicated to different social causes, which I thought was wonderful. Especially because it seemed like the majority of the crowd was about 13 years old (😂), so exposing them to these kinds of things, I thought, was a really great thing for Made in America and Live Nation to do!
