Lukeuary! Todayâs 100 word drabble theme is:
Keepsake
The child stared, wide-eyed and solemn, as Luke held the pendant in his hand. Â It had fallen to the ground during training, and his student had earnestly communicated its importance.
âOf course you can keep it,â Luke assured Grogu, manipulating the fine chain, knotting and shortening the length to prevent future loss. âItâs a keepsakeâsomething to remind you of the Mandalorian and his friendship.â
At the question that followed, Luke shook his head.
âAttachment isnât the same thing as love.  Which reminds meâŚâÂ
The Jedi reached into his tunic, pulling out the carefully-wrapped gift.Â
âHe brought this for you.â

When Mirror Saru sends out a message to anyone listening, he has no idea who will respondâbut anything has to be better than life on Kaminar, right? Find out in todayâs Mirror Fest fic, from @ysalamiri-queen:
Saru pushed himself further into the crevice, his breaths echoing off the tight walls and mingling with the panicked shivers of his sister pressed tightly against him.
âIâm scared, father isâŚâ She whispered, and Saru covered her mouth with a leathery hand.
âShh⌠He will endure.â He said softly, both for her and for his own sanity. His threat ganglia flared, muscles coiled to the point of pain, and every fiber of his being screamed for him to run, but there was nowhere to go. It was the night of culling, and the Baâul had come for what was theirs.

Not the Star Cluster Youâre Looking For
A Kalluzeb crossover story for @kalluzebminibang where the characters of Star Wars Rebels are recast into the Star Trek universe, taking place just after the Dominion War, featuring gorgeous art by Buffaluffalo.
Ever since the fall of Lasan, Zeb has searched for his ancestral home by following ancient legends and distant leads. After many years, Zeb has finally found Lira San, but one thing stands between him and his people: a star cluster. With the Empire hot on his tail, Zeb risks it all with nothing but a battered shuttle and broken bo-rifle. Things take a turn for the strange as he finds himself flung into the far reaches of the galaxy where the crew of the USS Ghost and members of the Cardassian Union compete for his trust.

⨠help me stop avoiding dialogue because i feel like i suck at it and no matter what i try i feel like it sounds stupid and if people read my books theyâll laugh at it or roll their eyes and give me a scathing critique in which they call my entire novel pure cringeâ¨
5 Tips for Getting Better at Dialogue
1) Writing Great Dialogue Takes Practice - Just like every other aspect of writing, writing great dialogue isnât something you can just instantly do. You can educate yourself on how to do it well, but you still need to put it into practice, which means letting yourself write bad dialogue for a while. And, honestly, go back to the first few books of your favorite authors and youâll see their early dialogue is a bit clunky compared to their later books.
2) Writing Great Dialogue Takes Education - But in order to practice writing great dialogue, you also have to learn what qualifies as great dialogue. Doing that is easier than it sounds. Look up articles with tips for writing great dialogue. Read books about writing dialogue. Read fiction and pay close attention to the dialogue. Watch movies and TV shows and play close attention to the dialogue. Pay more attention to dialogue in real life.
3) Act It Out/Say It Out Loud - If thereâs any way you can, try acting out your dialogue scene as you write it. Sometimes, pretending youâre actually in the moment can help you come up with more natural sounding dialogue. Or, once youâve written it, try reading it out loud. You can even enlist a willing friend to help out. Saying it out loud and actually hearing the words makes it so much easier to know whatâs off and figure out how to fix it.
4) Make Sure Youâre Not Over-Tagging - One of the biggest culprits of corny dialogue is the over-use of tags. In other words, âhe saidâ or âsaid Kara.â Have a look at my post Avoiding Repetition with Dialogue Tags.
5) Avoid Other Dialogue Pitfalls - There are a lot of other things that can make dialogue corny, too: overusing slang, rendering out accents or speech impediments, overusing names (people donât tend to use each otherâs names in dialogue unless trying to get their attention), being overly sarcastic or witty, using dialogue without Working in Action Beats & Movement, and characters not having their own Unique Voice.
I hope that helps!

The Constableâs New Lobes
Relationships: Quark/Odo
Rating: T
Summary: Odo needs to learn how to take the form of a nonhuman species to attend an important event undercover for Commander Sisko. To do this, heâll need to closely study the form of a member of that species, and Quark has volunteered to be his model.
Quark hummed, situating himself on Odoâs lap. âSo how have you been preparing to be a Nausicaan? Donât tell me youâre just looking at photos.â Odoâs lack of reply answered Quarkâs suspicion affirmatively. âOh no. You need to be able to study them, feel them and experience⌠I know! You can study me!â Quark exclaimed, taking Odoâs hands and placing them on his cheeks. âPlus, the Sub Nagus probably wouldnât seriously listen to a Nausicaan, sure theyâre scary, but they have no lobes for business.â
âIs that so?â Odo pondered, moulding his hands to fit over the facets of Quarkâs face, feeling each wrinkle, jutting cheekbone, and ridge. He shifted the shape of his face to match.
âYeah. Plus I think youâd make an incredibly sexy Ferengi.â

My contribution to the Just In Time festival for Star Trek :D
Absolutely fascinating pre-DS9 crossover with TNG from @ysalamiri-queen. Featuring all your favourite Ferengi. (Rom <3)
Noses rubbing together, Rom reached up to stroke Prinadoraâs lobe, careful to not tug her earring and eliciting a low hum of pleasure. He knew just how to please her, and she him, and together they formed a union as good as anyone could ask for on Ferenginar, which was a rare thing indeed. Often marriages were born out of profit, and not for love, but Rom had somehow hit the spouse lottery, or at least that is how he felt in this domestic moment as she rose, flashing a toothy smile before plodding down the hall into another part of the house, leaving him to read up on the daily news.
Prinadora was everything Rom could have hoped for in a wife, beautiful, kind, and from a good family. That âgood familyâ bit was a complication, seeing the dense, detailed, and expensive marriage contract it resulted in. However, Rom was confident he had read even the finest of print and signed happily, leading to many joyous years. Prinadora was a fair partner, attentive to Româs needs and she had graciously borne him a son, helping to raise him to be how a good Ferengi should. Already Nog was stealing sweets from the cupboard to hoard under his bed and committing other small acts of acquisition. Rom could not be more proud. Nog was set to begin his formal education at the local primary school soon, the same Hopawup Academy for Young Lobelings he and his brother Quark had attended over thirty years ago. He would surely bloom into a savvy businessman, should he take after his granmoogieâs side of the family.

Tagged by @x-wing-junkie to share the last line Iâve written!
From an upcoming story about DS9 pre-canon:
Nog shook his head, not looking away from the pile. âNo, youâre the ownerâs brother, thatâs different. Be careful, Grimp may be trying to get an inside ear.â
Very excited to share this story, it covers some early life of the Ferengi Fam! If youâd also like to share, feel free to add here or make your own post!
