It's cause me relating so much to her makes it way easier for me to identify the ways in which we do differ, and those specific differences are exactly why Katara would never be into Zuko.

Honestly, the biggest hurdle for a Zuko and Katara relationship isn't even the animosity or history of violence or their way better romantic relationships with other characters, it's that Katara's type is so clearly cool guys and Zuko is the biggest loser on the planet. Like, on first glance, Zuko might appear to have more in common with Katara's other canonical crushes, aka Jet (and Haru maybe?), but if you seriously think about it, Aang is actually the similar one. This isn't noticeable to most z/utara shippers, though, cause I feel like the overlap between them and the people falsely convinced Zuko is cool has like a 100% overlap.

Sure, Zuko is tall and has nice hair and can shoot fire, but he is not cool. We literally never see him have a friend until he joins the Gaang. When he gets back to the Fire Nation in season 3 he just hangs out with his little sister and her friends. He is socially awkward, has a bad temper, sucks at brewing tea and is stiff and humourless.

Aang is the most powerful person on the planet. He made friends all over the world. He has a giant flying monster pet, glowing tattoos and can talk to spirits. He threw an illegal dance party for a bunch of kids he'd known for two days and they all showed up.

And what sucks is that the reason people think Zuko is cool and Aang isn't is cause Zuko is more traditionally masculine and Aang is more traditionally feminine. Which, in reality, only makes Aang more cool. It's awesome that a show as big as Avatar had such an unconventional couple as their main pairing. But of course, people watching didn't like that and want to force Katara together with the more conventional option, bleugh.
