Help Me Start a Business

Hey everyone,

I love books, and I’m pretty sure a lot of you do too. I’m trying to turn this passion into money through an online book apothecary. The set-up is pretty simple: a costumer can choose between a one-time purchase or monthly subscription in which they fill out a form for a literary “diagnoses”. I will then, with the help of others, find books to suit their tastes and purchase them either from local/independent books stores or directly from the publishers. There will be a focus on under-represented communities and hopefully I will build the influence to start social campaigns. I’m really excited about this and I would love your support. How to Be Productive...

Hi there guys,

Here’s some tips and tricks to get stuff done even when you don’t want to.

Tip # 1: Get Ready

This may seem simple but when I say get ready, I mean get ready. Instead of throwing on some sweats and a t-shirt and throwing your hair in a messy bun, take the time to put on an outfit that you would wear out. Personally, jeans and a nice shirt do just fine. Make sure to take a shower, wash your face (if this is something you don’t normally do, I would make it a habit, even if you just use a quick face wash), take the time to properly dry you hair, and if you wear makeup, throw some mascara and lipgloss on. What I’ve found is that when I dress to get stuff done, I’m more likely to get stuff done. When I’m wearing my cozies, I’m more likely to want to relax and end up less productive. It’s all about helping switch a mindset.

Tip #2: Clean Your Space

As my father has always told me: “a cluttered room is a cluttered mind”. Even if it’s just tidying up your desk or making your bed, a little bit of organization can go a long way in helping keep you focused. Not to mention, you don’t have the added stress of “I should probably clean my room”. 

Tip #3: Make a List

It’s been said before, but I’ll say it again: breaking a task down into smaller steps makes it less daunting and more manageable. Not only should you make a list of what you need to do, but order it chronologically and give yourself a rough estimate of how long each part should take. It’s okay if it goes longer, but it may also be sign to take a break if you need to. Having time limits also helps you understand how much you can accomplish in one day. If you have the ability to order your list as you please, I would suggest breaking up activities in front of a computer or sitting down with more active ones. For example, work on an essay for an hour and then clean the bathroom. 

Tip #4: Taking Breaks

Taking breaks are super important, but what you do on your breaks can make or break your productivity. First and foremost, set a strict time limit for how long you are going to take a break, otherwise it may never end. Second, no matter what, don’t get on your phone. This is tough one, but I’ve found that every time I turn away from work to check on Instagram or Tumblr, I surpass my time limit while ending up depressed and unmotivated. Some better alternatives to your phone are: go for a walk, read a chapter in a book (this one can also be tricky for avid readers, so be firm with yourself), meditate, grab a snack, make a cup of tea or coffee, sketch a quick drawing, or play with a pet. 

Final Tip: Be Gentle with Yourself

I cannot stress this enough: it’s okay to fail. It’s okay to not give everything done. It’s okay to get distracted. One of the most unproductive things you can do is beat yourself up. Instead, when you notice yourself falling behind or looking at your phone, gently remind yourself of what you’re supposed to be doing and do that. We all make mistakes and for those of us who struggle with being productive, there is no expectation to master it overnight.

I agree with what you said about the whole situation recently and I'm glad someone said it. It's weird to see people call them out and say not to put them on a pedestal yet turned around and treated them like this because they put them on a pedestal themselves and expected more of them. They're all just humans who openly admitted a mistake they made. They could've lied and said they didn't do it. There was no proof anyway. I'm just sad about everything.

I smiled so much when I saw this. I’m really happy at least one person got what I was trying to say. I think the important take away to all of this is we’re all human, no matter how many followers we have and humans make mistakes. It’s a part of life and a part of learning.

I think there’s been a misunderstanding. I am perfectly aware that all the current gender identities have been around for as long as human self-awareness. What I was trying to express (and I obviously didn’t do a good job of) was that it wasn’t it relatively recent history that there was a wide-spread use of terms for them. I in no way meant to erase non-binary (or an identity’s) history. 

I would, however, suggest to you, that you be careful with what you call people. Even if I wasn’t aware that non-binary people had been around for “literally thousands of years”, it wouldn’t make me transphobic (which is the funniest thing I’ve read all day, one of my best friends, who I love more than the world is trans), it would just mean I’m uneducated. May I suggest, that in the future, if you come across someone who is under a false belief, first clarify with them what they meant, and then, instead of insulting them (which generally makes people reactionary and unwilling to hear what you have to say), kindly correct them. If they insist on their point of view, by all means, go off on them. 

Also, in terms of your comment on reading, the amount of literature I’ve read on LGBT+ and gender rights/history is astounding. I helped found a GSA. Please don't try and insult me on something I’m really good at.

I’m sorry you feel like this. I honestly meant no harm to Sora, I was just giving her my unsolicited advice, which I openly acknowledged. I don’t think what I said was mean and I wasn’t telling her what to do and I never said what she said was wrong. I just have seen the effects that certain labels can do to people. But if you read my entire ask, you would’ve seen that I actually said that she can make her choices and I thought she was really brave for what she was doing. Furthermore, as far as I know, Sora and I are on good terms. So thank you for trying to protect her, but I’m not sure I’m the person you should be going after. I'm arab so I was really happy to see you feature Saudi Arabia in the series, but I couldn't help but notice you used shots of the Holy Mosque and the Quran, which are higly regarded symbols in Islam, in a way that is really disrespectful to the religion (1/2)

These are significant places and tools of worship,and it was really uncomfortable seeing them placed alongside a celebrity known for singing & dancing (which are practices prohibited during prayer and reading the Quran)I know you absolutely mean no harm with it and I understand that it's a mistake that any non-muslim could make. Hey, so I understand where you’re coming from and I’ve thought this over for a while and here’s my response to this. For several, different reasons I have decided not to change it.  First and foremost, I’m lazy. The way I make moodboards makes it really hard to go back in the future. Second, while I didn’t mean any disrespect to anyones religion, I have set a standard on this blog in the past for being somewhat sacrilegious and have plans to continue in the future. If you go back in the past, I have a moodboard based on a fic in which an angel and a demon have intercourse and another where based on a fic where the characters have sex in a church (on Easter no less). I also have full on fics planned that will also be pretty offensive to a devote Christian. With this standard in place, I feel somewhat uncomfortable choosing to favor one religion over another. I also want to point out that Namjoon isn’t actually singing or dancing in either picture, so there’s no actual literal connection between the pictures you mention and singing and dancing. I understand if you’re uncomfortable with this, and if you’re following me, you stop, but this is what I morally feel comfortable with. I really hope you understand.

If she did, in fact, delete her account because of this, then you’re really no better than the people who this whole thing was about (worse actually). The fact that hate is so ranpid on this website is horrible and y’all really need to calm down.
