The other day I was washing my hands and another woman came out the stall a couple seconds after I did. She wasn’t cis, and a different woman waiting for someone to finish up looked angry and opened her mouth to say something. Before she could, I smiled real friendly a this woman who’s just trynna wash her hands and told her I loved her skirt, and we started talking clothes.

The waiting woman was still clearly pissed but she didn’t say anything because she knew I wouldn’t have her back. That’s all it took to keep some poor lady just trynna scrub up from getting harassed.

Sometimes doing the right thing is really hard and kinda scary. Other times all it takes is making it clear that you won’t support someone’s nastiness. It’s a little enough thing to do your part.

One of my fave authors from ages ago used the phrase “a little helplessly” (like “he reached his arms out, a little helplessly”) in EVERY fic she wrote. She never pointed it out—there just came a point where I noticed it like an Easter egg. So I literally *just* wrote it into my in-progress fic this weekend as an homage only I would notice. <3

To me it’s still the quintessential “two dudes doing each other” phrase.

when Barack Obama took office, reducing unemployment and making healthcare accessible to all, they burned effigies.

now that Donald Trump is sitting in the White House, holding a pen to sign Executive Orders that will kill so many dreams (if not people)

WIZARDING SCHOOLS AROUND THE WORLD: SOUTH INDIA

The South Indian Academy of Sorcery is housed at an undetectable location somewhere along the coast of Kerala. Although the school hosts a variety of students from all over southern India, they have all taken to celebrating various Kerala festivals alongside resident natives. The floors of the school are comprised of colourful tiles, each shifting at random intervals to form intricate designs and images that tell stories long lost in the folds of history. Classes are steeped in tradition, with extensive studies in history, astronomy, linguistics, and the intersection of magic and mathematics. However, wizarding education, like muggle education, is fluid and ever-changing. The elemental-based magic once commanded exceptionally by professors and students alike in the wake of Kerala’s agricultural society has given way to technological innovations and magic in the form of electrical manipulation. Furthermore, dancing is taught as a practical application of magic, with instructors teaching students how to physically embody the spells they want to conjure. Who needs a love potion when you can move and twirl and bewitch your crush with your feet?
