What does the word Poltergeist mean? This means that a ghost or a supernatural is responsible in the action in someone’s homes by doing noises or moving objects which in this movie had. This movie took in 1982 and the story surrounded around a 9-year-old girl that kept hear things and seeing things that others can’t. it was amazing they started as a normal American family living in the suburbs.  This horror film is not like other scary movies because when they found out they had something in the house they acted that nothing wrong could go wrong. But when the little girl was taken by the tv people they called some people to help them to get their little girl back. The funny thing that remember from this movie is when the investigators were saying about when Ryan recorded an event that took seven hours for a child’s toy to move, this reminds me in the world that were living today. So many things that people have question about supernatural activities in their homes, schools, or even abandon building and not getting the answers that they want or getting them but not hard-core evidence. This movie used close ups to help the audience to be more into it, after the tv people took the little girl from there parents, the wired things began to happen in the house, but why? In the end of the movie they found out that their house was built on top of a cemetery which was a huge mistake. This reminded me when we watch “The Amityville Horror” that’s is based on a true story and I can see the comparison between those movies because they both disturbed a peaceful pace and when it is disturbed “things” become to happen. Watching this movie was different from other films that I watched in the past. Disturbing something o peaceful can result in dangerous activity.

House on Haunted Hill blog

This movie was intense then other movie that I’ve seen in this class. The “House on Hunted Hill,” was a great movie and it took place in a house that was hunted which people had to stay there for a night. This million air was a person that wanted a to through a party for fourth wife Annabelle. He got Five different people stay in the house, but the catch was that the house was haunted and promising them 10,000 dollars each to stay the entire night in the house after the doors are locked at midnight. They had a test pilot, newspaper columnist, a Psychiatrist, and one that works in the Loren’s companies all of them had nothing in common, but they needed money. This Haunted house was not easy to explain why they used this in the film. Haunted houses are mainly signifying where people are related to it. The only person that was related to the house was one of the people that was there, I really don’t know what’s his name, but he was drunk in the end of the movie because he was scared and confused. The part that made me uneasy was when the host was explaining that there is no escape in the house like a coffin, which made since because death is in the house just like a coffin. They people that was put in this house are trying to survive for the night and trying to make sense which people don’t believe others. What I took from this movie is that people are desperate in getting the things that they want but there is always that one catch. Being tapped in a house can be like a dream which can be frustrating and powerless. I really don’t understand why they were given guns because it is useless but if he wanted them to kill themselves. Watching this movie was interesting because there are so meanings that need to be identify.

Freaks 1932 blog

The movie freaks were a great movie to watch and understand behind the film (the meaning).  The Freaks films cam out in 1932 and it was known as a Horror movie back in the day. Watching this mob=vie made me think how in the world people thought that these people were known as a scary thing and can become a nightmare for some people. Tom Browning made a back to back movie one was called Dracula and then Freaks in 1932. He was more focused on people physical appearance and disorder and made it become a horror thing. In this film I didn’t like how they were using the people for entertainment and making people laugh in how they look or talk. One of the people that was interesting was Cleopatra. Was a beautiful talented woman that they people ever seen. Cleo was also a horrible person that used people to do her ways and this reminded me about the story about the Cleopatra that was a queen of Egypt and ruled it in the 1st century B.C and she was known as a famous that Shakespeare was inspired. She was involved with two different people named Julius Caesar and Mark Antony and this reminded the same story that took place in the film when she was involved with two which one as them was Elliot and some other guy. Browning wanted some dramatic in this film which were the romance and when Cleo was trying to kill Elliot for his money which in that time money was hard to get. This movie was interesting to watch but at the same time I didn’t like it because how they made people look but in real life there are normal like everyone else. In the end Elliot knew what he has done, instead of being with his wife that loves him in his personality and not his money like Cleo did.

Blog 17: Carrie White

In the movie Carrie, was interesting movie to watch. Horror films are mainly focuses on the negative treatment of a women in this case Carrie White was treated badly. Some moments of residence that allows for a strong female representation. In the beginning of the movie Carrie White was treat bad but at the same time she faced the problems that she had in school. As the horror film is genre that targets primarily on the youth market, some of these women step beyond the traditional cannon fodder and emerge as feminist role models. The role of Carrie White didn’t know anything about herself or who she was and that’s the reason she said “yes” when she was invited to the prom.

Stephan King is a famous American writer known for his prolific writing in the genre of horror, science fiction and suspense. In the movie it brings me back when we were talking about the American gothic horror. King was able to popularize the gothic genre for a mass Carrie can be seen as horror story which includes Gothic elements such as “found footage,” unreliable narrators and the mixtures of the of the ancient and the modern. The fanatic religious beliefs of the mother mixes with the relaxed atmosphere that exists in Carrie’s school. Carrie is written in several different point of views, and there is no evidence that what the characters perceive is the truth. When Carrie’s mom was telling that everything that she’s does is the devil and she comes from a really strict home. Looking at the religious purposes in this film made it seem more horror in the action and the physical appearance. I feel that they made it seem over board and quite unfamiliar to other religious practices. The Gothic in this movie is full of uncanny elements.
