Celestor never quite understood those around her. That’s not to say she didn’t understand how they worked, how they ticked. No, rather she was never part of the people around her. She didn’t even think often of the gods that shaped their society. Attachments, bonds, these were resources in the play that was life and while it was all entertaining, she lusted for more.

You see, before she was ever Queen of queens, Celestor was monstrous in a different way. The greatest conwoman of her generation, her silver tongue and ruthlessness veneered behind a human demeanour. Brilliant displays of magic and empty, enticing words were all she needed to pull the masses into her clutches. Three others followed closely in her thrall, an academic, a warrior and an artist, fuelled by promises of grandeur and hunger not dissimilar to hers.

And then the day arrived when those four became gods. Perhaps, knowing the slow decay that ensued afterwards, the thousands slaughtered that day were the lucky ones. In the end it was all lies. It didn’t matter to her though, she was untouchable now, above the stage itself. The winner took all and now, she had all the time in the world to watch it unfold.
