#horses#idk if it means the same thing in racing#but in the hunter jumpers I came from#a red ribbon on a horse’s tail means he kicks#it’s a warning to other riders not to come up close behind#anyway I saw the lil red bow clinging to Gold Ship’s tail and laughed#he probably kept to the back to conserve energy for the final sprint#but it’s funny to imagine that the jockey kept him back#because he’s an asshole who kicks other horses

Hey man, ahead of this heatwave I'm gonna go ahead and rip the veil off of something for you:
The reason American Southerners have the luxury of saying that 90 ain't that bad and it's not unbearable until it's 100 is 1) prolonged exposure to high temperatures over multiple decades 2) our mindset for these living conditions.
You don't have number 1, and you can't just acquire it, so I need you to adopt number 2 immediately. How do you live like a Southerner in the heat?
Don't be a hero.
Stay inside. Buy a box fan, put it next to a bucket of ice, and wrap your arms around it like a lover. Do not leave the shade under any circumstances. If a dude makes fun of you for getting out of the sun, don't get mad, just think of a funnier insult to call him while you flip him off and go stand under a tree.
Southerners love nothing more than to exaggerate and lie to each other. Like I think we got off on the wrong foot when you walked in on us saying things like "It was only 110, I didn't even take my damn jacket off" when really, last week it was 95 at 10 PM and we were on the bed buck nekkid in front of the fan moaning incoherently and praying to die. So yeah, we can take extreme heat. We also want you to think we can take ludicrous heat. You must learn to talk shit and then be a hypocrite and a coward in your actions, because this will serve you best.
It sounds like I am joking but I cannot express to you how much I am not. Do not fuck with Mother Nature, because that bitch will kill you. Take every opportunity to lower your body temperature and drink water, because that is what all of us in hot climates are doing all the time, and that is why we are not dead, even when it seems like we should be.
(And yeah, we do go through like two and a half ugly weeks in April every year where everyone wants to absolutely just goddamn drop dead because none of us have our heat tolerance back, but we must go to work anyway, which must be a crime. And yes, when it gets below 70 we really all do short circuit and cover ourselves in seven jackets, except for Shorts Guy.)

I think there's a few things that do it for me. Shadowbringers spoilers below the cut!
Part of it is that this expansion is very rough on the WoL personally - subject to the interpretation of the individual player, of course, but at the very least there's no getting around the whole segment of the plot where you're, you know, vomiting light and on the verge of transforming into a mega Lightwarden. You've got the early buy-in from the prior Warriors of Darkness storyline that introduced Ardbert, the opening gutpunch of what happens to poor Tesleen in Amh Areng, the slower creeping horrors in Eulmore. It's a lot of heavy shit!
Shadowbringers is also where the motives of the Ascians and the nature of the conflict that drives the whole myth arc really become clear. Previously in ARR and HW, the lore was kind of scattershot, cryptic teases. I think by Stormblood they probably knew the direction they were going, but Shadowbringers is where that part of the story is fully unveiled.
Even better, that's done mostly via Emet-Selch, who is just an amazing antagonist. Terrible person! So much fun to watch, and with a genuinely meaningful motivation that in no way excuses all the atrocities.
Plus all the pathos that comes from Ardbert's role in the expansion. The Crystal Exarch is more divisive, but I really enjoy his whole part in the expansion too.
And fights like Holminster Switch, Amaurot, the Dying Gasp, the Heroes' Gauntlet, and the Seat of Sacrifice are serious bangers.
ffxiv fans who love shadowbringers: what's your favorite thing about it? is it the aesthetic? is there a moment in the plot where it all clicks for you? is there a theme or character arc that tears your heart out and stomps on it? tell me about it! keysmashing and/or walls of text welcome.
i'm really not looking for any particular answers here. i'm just doing some story planning and trying to figure out what people would enjoy reading about during that arc of the wol's story. i've heard a lot of ffxiv players rate it as the best expac, so it'd be fun to hear what resonated with you. ty in advance 🙏

Obviously there are a lot of myriad kinds of relationships, but there's no accounting for all of the minute differences so I stuck with some of the most obvious/common. Feel free to double this as a qotd to yap about the relationship if you want!

Question: What is the greatest magic of all? Answer: Friendship, right? [B]: The greatest magic of all is not friendship, it's chronomancy, the ability to control and warp time. If friendship were the greatest magic, look, it's a pet peeve of mine (...)

Wuk Lamat's voice actor could use a hand. Voice actors, like most actors and those in the entertainment industry, actually don't make a ton of money and rely on the limited times they're on a job and any residuals that come in (which get smaller and smaller over the years; Mica Burton has said she was paid the same amount of money on Star Trek: Picard that her dad made on Roots over 45 years ago). Add in the discrimination of trans actors when seeking roles.
Pop on over to her Ko-fi (Tumblr suppressing links doesn't help here) and give our Vow of Resolve a hand.
