Why does everyone always forget Sara? Why do people give Shado more weight than Sara? When Oliver would've never even met Shado if it weren't for Sara?
And he would've never made the step to date Felicity had it not been for Sara.
There were four, FOUR, great loves in Oliver's life: Laurel, Sara, Shado and Felicity.
Sara pretty much played the biggest and nost important role in his life and development, yet, everyone always overlooks her and diminishes how important she was to him and the enormous role she played in his life.
Sara was Oliver's single most important relationship, Sara's the reason he became the Green Arrow. Without Sara Oliver wouldn't have ended up as a vigilante.

I did something...
https://archiveofourown.org/works/55444849/chapters/140688235
Just trying something new and moving away from my angst, at least a little.
A what if scenario for the West-Allen wedding without any interruptions and a Canarrow twist.

Oliver Queen loved Sara Lance more than all the other women in his life and we were shown that from the pilot on, here is why:
Sara was the first woman we knew Oliver was involved with, the first woman we ever saw him with.
Immature, irresponsible, selfish, "I detest swimming" playboy Ollie was willing to jump right back into the freezing waters of the North China Sea in the middle of a storm to go look for Sara. His father had to literally hold him back, to keep him from throwing himself back into the water to go look for her.
He talked about Laurel on the island but not Sara. Never Sara. And we know Oliver doesn't like to share his feelings and talk about his emotions. If something's too painful he doesn't talk about it.
Sara was the very first person he was willing to die and kill for. And I'm talking about make the choice and kill someone in cold blood.
He told Laurel he thinks about her every day.
He got up and prematurely ended the lie detector test he insisted on taking after bringing up Sara. He completely shut down.
He kept his promise to her and lied to her family which had them hate him, while the truth might have helped mend those relationships some. Even while thinking she was dead, after she came back home and even after her second death. He still insists that "Sara had her own secrets and those weren't his to tell."
He killed Ivo so she didn't have to, so she wouldn't change like he had after killing someone. This was the first time Oliver killed and it wasn't in self-defense or affect because someone he cared about was in imminent danger. There was no need for him to kill Ivo, yet he did. Simply to preserve the person Sara was. It was her promise, a choice he had let her make, yet, he fullfilled that promise in her stead to spare her the pain of knowing what it felt like to take someone's life, after he had fought her when she told him he had to kill Ivo before he could talk to Slade. Oliver was vehemently against killing someone in cold blood until it was to keep Sara from doing it. If that isn't love. I don't know what is.
They spent months on Lian Yu together were they had to get to know each other again and rebuild their trust after Sara betrayed him but Oliver still saved and protected her, even with Shado and Slade's interjections.
While I do not believe that Oliver choose Sara over Shado, Ivo made the choice for him, he'd seen how protective Oliver had been of both women and concluded Oliver would get between whichever one he was pointing the gun at and the gun. Ivo decided that Sara would live. That was the one time he didn't chose Sara. But he chose her over Laurel when begging her to come on the Gambit with him, a trip that took about three weeks per way. He chose her over Laurel when she came back home. He chose her on Lian Yu when risking everything for her several times and doing what he could to protect her and keep her safe. Whenever there was a choice and Sara was one of the options he chose Sara.
Sara was the first woman Oliver was willing to open up and fully commit to. He let her know he was scared because of Slade and didn't know what to do. He bared himself to her and showed her his weakness. Something Oliver struggled doing all throughout the show. Oliver asked Sara to move in with him, which was very telling especially because that had been a point of major dissent between him and Laurel and one of the main reasons he joined his father on the Gambit to begin with.
After Sara died he told Felicity "if I grieve, no one else gets to." Which means he would completely fall apart and most likely do what he had done after Tommy's death. Run and spend months in seclussion.
He saw Sara as a part of his family. And just because there are people claiming they didn't spend time with each other besides the island; if Oliver and Laurel had known each other forever, so did Oliver and Sara. No one can tell me party boy Oliver didn't hang with party girl Sara. They've known each other forever, had similar interests and character, they'd for sure gone out partying together before the Gambit. Their affair had to have started somehow and it wasn't on the Gambit, Oliver made that clear while talking to Helena "I started sleeping with Sara, I started sleeping with my girlfriend's sister".
Oliver put a tracker on Sara because "I couldn't lose you again".
The moment Sara stepped back into his life, she was all he cared about. And he did whatever he could to keep her in his life.
Bringing Sara up was a sure way to get an emotional response from him.
He always dropped everything if she was in danger. Be it on the freighter, Lian Yu getting kidnapped by Slade, because of the League, soulless, lost in time with the Legends, abducted by aliens, nearly killed by a Nazi Supergirl... if Sara was in danger, Oliver would push through his own pain in order to get to her.
Sara always managed to get him out of his own head and push him on a better path, she always believed in him. As was shown in Star City 2046. Sara reached him when no one else could.
They didn't need words to communicate. One look was enough.
They had fun with each other.
Sara never put him down or held his past against him. She didn't use emotional blackmail to have him fall in line. She didn't expect him to just get over his trauma.
She was "his" Sara.
Her death pushed him over the edge and down a path of self-destruction. The look over utter and complete devastation on his face when he saw her dead body and the fact that he went into shock and spent the entire episode desperately trying to not fall apart.
Sara showed back up in Starling, and Oliver distanced himself from Felicity. Plus, the smile of pure joy on his face when she implied that she might be around more again.
Even Slade understood what Sara meant to him, he'd seen first hand how far Oliver had been willing to go for her. "... someone who means everything to you..."
While both Oliver and Sara felt guilt about the way they ended up on the Gambit together, neither regrets that choice.
Sara was with him both times he died.
He respected her choice to leave.
And most importantly it is a fact that Oliver loved Sara, because he said so himself: "a woman that I loved was shot full of arrows and sent tumbling off a roofop." Oliver loved Sara, it's a fact that we know because Oliver told us so. It boogles my mind how so many people claim he never actually loved her. Not sure what their definition of love is.
Sara Lance was the love of Oliver's life. Outside circumstances always got in their way. The main issue they had was timing, nothing else. Their feelings were strong and stayed that way throughout both shows.
And last of all, there would be no Green Arrow without Sara. Sara put Oliver on the path of becoming the man he turned out to be, just like Oliver put Sara on the path of becoming the woman she turned out to be. They were soulmates and their lives were intristically bound together.
Their lives paralled each others and in the end they both died. They had the tragic star crossed love story. They suffered so much just to die young in very unfair ways. Had they stuck together they'd probably still be alive.
And yes, Sara is dead. She was killed and a clone alien hypride is not Sara. It's an imposter mascarading as her. Oliver and Sara are probably hanging out with Tommy and Laurel, enjoying afterlife together. (I refuse to acknowledge the stupid "everyone but Laurel is alive again" plot they shoved down out throats)
Sara was the one that got away. It was always her choice to leave. He always wanted her to stay.

Another unpopular opinion, I guess but...
The scene in Legends 3.17 'Guest Starring John Noble' where Sara tells a young Barack Obama that she misses him makes zero sense.
And here is why:
Sara and Oliver got on the Gambit in October 2007 and Sara essentially didn't return home until February 5th 2014, granted she did spend several months in 2013 in Star City but still. She then left again April 23rd and did return for a short period of time in May but then left again only being back a handful of times until she died October 8th 2014.
She gets resurrected late October 2015, gets resouled two weeks later, leaves Star City and the USA about another two weeks later and then joins the Legends and rarely comes back home.
Which means Sara spent around a grand total of maybe eight to ten months, twelve if you want to push it, in the USA during the eight year period of the Obama presidency.
So having Sara be the one to tell him she misses him makes zero sense. They should've given that line to Nate or Ray. That would've been a lot more believable.
But that is just my opinion because it had felt off to me from the first time I watched it.

Seriously, even if I try there is no way I can add a story, even a short oneshot or new chapter every single day!
There are several mutli chapter Olicity and Avalance fics that are using the Canarrow tag for no apparent reason and I feel like every time I update or post a new fic, they update or post a new Avalance or Olicity fic that uses the Canarrow tag... there's no way I can keep actual Canarrow fics at the top all by myself at that rate... I try but yeah, not realistic at all... so where are my Canarrow writers at? I could use some help over here ;)
We know how Sara Lance likes her coffee, black with lots of sugar! We learn that early on in Legends Season One. You might like your coffee differently and that's fine, so is artistic liberty in matters the show didn't elaborate on but if the show gave us the answer, stick with it. And the shows gave us several people's coffee preferences. Sara drinks it black with two sugars, Oliver likes it black, Felicity drinks a none fat latte with extra sugar (that makes zero sense on a nutrition level) just to name a few. We got the info. So do your research. Use another methaphor. Sorry things like that just really annoy me. But then again, I spend hours working out the smallest detail and researching things like Max Fuller's wife's name...
She doesn't like her coffee bitter, like her relationships and dirty martini, the woman mainly drinks scotch!, like do your research if you use it as something to make a point about a character and their actions.
And Sara was not sleeping with whoever tickled her fancy during her time with the Legends. There were a few choice people she hooked up with but she wasn't sleeping her way through time as so many Avalance people would like to make it out.
And who the hell thinks Ava's sweet while Oliver is bitter? It's like the exact opposite. Oliver's the sweetest person on the planet, Ava is so fucking bitter it's not even funny anymore.
And I don't why I'm over here ranting. Blame it on all the people tagging fics as Canarow simply for mentioning the fact that Sara used to date Oliver. That's a fact, you don't need to tag it that for two sentences.
I swear I get heat for also tagging a Canarrow story Olicity because technically in the story Oliver is with Felicity as in the present but Avalance and Olicity people tag a story Canarrow just because Sara and Oliver having been together is mentioned or they break up in the first chapter and them actually being together is never shown in the story.
Make it make sense and stop tagging your toxic bullshit with my ship! There are so few Canarrow fics out there don't throw your anti-fics in there I don't want to see those toxic ships under my happy tag.
I think I'm done now.
And where are my fellow Canarrow writers at? I sort of want to go through with "there can't be a none Canarrow ship at the top of the Canarrow tag" but I'm one person, my muse is flakey and given the amount of Avalance and Olicity people that are currently falsely tagging their fics Canarrow I will not be able to do that.
Wow this post just turned into something entirely different.
Anyway... I hope everyone has a great day.

I've got questions:
Barry and Iris' wedding was in Central City.
Dinah Lance, Sara's mom, lives in Central City.
So why exactly is Sara staying at a hotel?!?!
Like seriously writers? Do better!
Sorry, just something I thought about again today and thought I'd share. Always pisses me off.
Family is the most important thing to Sara and the writers regularly ignore that fact.
"I just want to go home. I want to see my family. Ollie, please, I don't want to die."

Also there is no such thing as a rule or whatever that says "you should no or are not allowed to comment on older fics". It doesn't matter when the fic was posted the author will always love and appreciate the feedback.
There is also no rule that says just because the fic has multiple chapters already, you are only allowed to comment on the last one. Comment on the ones that make you feel strongly, that you especially liked or that took you by surprise.
Honestly, just comment if you like the story. That's all we want, ee are sharing our thoughts with you, so we'd love for you to share yours with us.
If you got the time to read it, you got the time to write a short comment to keep the writer motivated and maybe even inspire them.
Okay I feel like I'm complaining a lot lately and I'm sorry, I don't want to be like this but I just don't get it.
I received a comment on one of my stories that I hadn't updated in months. And the comment was very motivating, short but they let me know just how much they like the story and I actually ended up writing a new chapter within the next week.
No reaction on the new chapter and I'm just sitting here not getting it.
I don't know. Maybe I'll get another comment when it once again takes me months to update the story?
But why not comment when you read the chapter? I mean usually my muse decides which story to work on but there are occassions I want to write but don't know on which story and in that case I usually go by popularity of the story. The less comments a story gets the less likely it is that I force myself to sit down and work on it.
I don't know. I just don't get it. And it makes me kinda sad. And it's not like we're talking about indepth paragarphs of comments here, I get that those take time and need to be done when you have the time. I get that, I write those comments on stories and it takes a lot of time and often at least one reread of the chapter.
I'm talking about the "great story, liked the new chapter can't wait for the next one" comments. Which I love and appreciate just as much. I just like reactions and to me a kudos isn't much of a reaction. It's a "this story's alright and I'll read it but it's not good enough to use words to tell the author how I feel about it." And that might be unfair but it's just how I feel.
Now I'm wondering if I'm the only one who feels that way about kudos. Let me know your thoughts on them.
I guess my rant is done and I'm going to try and get my as out of the self-pity zone it is currently in and into doing something productive.
Can't bring myself to write though...

Oliver Jonas Queen used to take Sara Lance flying on the small light aircraft he'd gotten to his sixteenth birthday from his father and there's no way that isn't a fact.
Robert taught Oliver how to fly.
Sara loved birds.
Oliver took Sara flying so she could feel like a bird.

Fanfiction Comments: Why Bother?
Genuine question: If ya’ll like a story, why not comment?
This question, born out of previous discussions and Discord chats, is one writers have been dealing with for a long time. Feedback/reblogs on art tends to be more common than on fics. Yet writers continue to beg for comments on stories. So what's stopping people?
Don't know what to say/an emoji/script feels too impersonal
Forgot to comment
Read everything and how do you pick out one part?
Rather give feedback personally
Feels like an expectation/I owe them
Send me a string of emojis? I love it. Send a single heart? I love it. Keyboard smash? I love it. Copy/paste a "thank you for writing"? I still love it. "I don't know what to comment or how to put my feelings into words." Then put that! That's a compliment! Can't think of anything to say, then "I don't know what to write but asgfdhgf I liked it." is fine!
Seriously, I don't care WHAT you put, because it shows me you cared enough to take a few second to show that love. I recognize and look for my regular commenters, even the ones who leave just a heart or "extra kudos".
Forgot to comment? Leave the fic open on your phone or get in the habit of dropping SOMETHING right as you finish. If you had time to make it through the last 100 words, you can probably tap an emoji. It's likely more of a habit to build up than anything.
Read it in one go and it's all a blur? "I read this all in one go and it's a blur, but I loved it!" We don't need specifics; just tell us you loved it on the chapter you stopped on. That in itself is a compliment because Hey! You loved it so much you had to keep reading!
Personal feedback? Well, I'll never say no to friends gushing about stories to me! And it might not be the same for everyone, but if you stop commenting on AO3 and only tell me personally...my assumption is you don't like it enough to say it publicly. I've spent many a time wondering why people stopped giving that support and what I should do better. If it's a friend, try asking them which they prefer! We can go back and reread (and do!) AO3 comments. Much harder on discord/dms/etc.
Owing authors? Look, we put a lot of time and work into writing and providing content for free. Hours of idea planning, actual writing, editing, catering to requests, etc. My partner once said I have a second job, writing, but I don't get paid. If you read and enjoyed something that someone put a lot of work into, it's nice to take a few seconds and tell them that.
You don't owe authors comments. They also don't owe you free writing. Sometimes, you forget there is an author at all when you're reading. But there is. A real person put out a story hoping you'd love it, or connect to it. You'd see yourself in the writing and feel less alone, or cheered up when you have a bad day.
Writing is art, and all we want to do is connect with you. Comments help bridge that gap.

Something that always confused me were the people claiming Oliver didn't love Sara, wasn't really interested in her....
Right. That is why he was the one pursuing her and making the first step, initiating their involvements EVERY SINGLE TIME!
He begged her to come on the Gambit with him, she was having some serious doubts and Oliver went all caps on her "PLEASE" with exclamation points like seriously? How desperate was he to get her to come with him? But sure, it was just about sex cause Oliver Jonas Queen wouldn't have been able to pick up just any woman simply to have some physical fun with while travelling. He was begging his girlfriend's sister to join him on a trip with his father on a freaking Yacht which made keeping their affair a secret pretty much impossible.
On Lian Yu he risked everything to save her, to keep her safe and to protect her time and again. He was the one who initiated the kiss on the Freighter. He was the one making it very clear to her how he felt and what he wanted. Cause, there's no way that kiss was cause he wanted to get it on... it was a "we may not see each other again because I might die and I need you to know how I feel" kind of kiss.
When she came home, he did everything within his power to convince her to stay.
He was once again the one pursuing her and initiating their relationship.
He was the one taking their involvements to the next step or trying to "We should think about getting a more permanent place.
" - "we? are you asking me to move in with you?"
Oliver also didn't want her to leave. Tried to stop her even when knowing he can't.
And the look on his face in 3.01 when she showed up and his "I hope so" after asking if she'd be around more permanently again.
Oliver Jonas Queen loved Sara Lance dearly, completely, selflessly and unconditionally.
Sara was the one he chose time and again.
"I chose you." Was true in more ways than simply his choice between Shado and Sara.
Oliver was willing to risk everything, including his life for her years before he became a vigilante, had proper training or suffered any sort of losses.
Irresponsible, "selfish" according to him, immature playboy Ollie was willing to die in order to look for Sara after the Gambit sank. Mr. "I detest swimming" would've jumped back into the freezing, stormy seas of the North China Sea had Robert not held him back.
But sure, it was just a fling and she meant nothing to him.
Okay, I'm done ranting now. But just saying, there was no one Oliver took more risks for than Sara. Saving Felicity or Laurel after years of training doesn't measure up to him saving Sara, getting between her and a gun etc with little to no training and a much bigger chance of him dying.
But that is just my humble opinion.
