I loved this so much! Everything about this book had me in a chokehold for the entire time I was reading. It’s got The Santa Clause meets Rise Of The Guardians and Red, White, And Royal Blue vibes. It was magical and funny and political in all the best ways!
I think Coal is one of my new favorite characters! He’s the anxious oldest child with all the responsibilities piled on his shoulders, he’s the one trying so hard to be the class clown (to his own detriment), and he’s an absolute disaster bisexual in the best way. I loved that he just wanted to step up and do the right thing for his people, for his Holiday (and the other winter Holidays), and for Hex. I loved that he stood his ground when it came to making sure that everyone he loved was protected and happy. And the way he loved his chosen family, from all the joking around and all the quiet ways that he cared for them, was so sweet that it made my heart melt.
Everything about this book was done so well that it had me crying my eyes out! I loved it with all my heart and I’m pretty sure this is gonna be my new hyper fixation book series. The Nightmare Before Kissmas is getting a solid five stars and I’ve already gotten my hands on a copy of the second book. I’m so excited to dive into it!

After much hemming and hawing, I've finally made one of these. Picking 100 was hard! And I'm not sure I'd agree with the choices if I made it next week. But oh well. Here it is! (Also, I can't believe that in all my years of making and posting these lists, I never thought to combine it with the poll feature.)

Finished my book last night so I guess I’ll just stare longingly at my bookshelf until god reveals my next book to read to me through divine revelation

Alright, I will have NO book shaming. Also this list made me realize that when I know I like something, by god do I stick with it 😂 I only put the first book in any given series on purpose!
I'd love to hear how you did! But if there's book shaming I'm not here for it.

i am sooooooooo late to the party but this looked like fun! choosing 100 books was honestly a bit of a nightmare but i got there in the end — and without having to include any renaissance plays.

You should check out No One is Home if you like weirdly charming illustrations and Richard Scarry-like worlds.

Maggie Stiefvater going out of the way to let people know she's completely switched genres and is writing literary fiction set during WWII and not anything similar to her YA work, and then said book subsequently being marketed with FairyLoot special editions with the standard YA/romance cover art and painted edges instead of getting the same treatment as other adult literary novels is sending me.
This is very much a case of "marketing department had no idea; is hoping teenagers who propelled TRC to success with Pynch fanart and then bullied the author off twitter for not writing the exact, explicit fanfiction they wanted for the Dreamer Trilogy will somehow have grown more brain cells and be able to cope with complex literary concepts and not just shit their pants because this book set during WWII contains n*zis"
Anyway RIP Stiefvater, I will enjoy The Listeners while watching from a distance as booktok burns down.
