(StHCA Concept) Hub World: the Carnival! Here's where you can access all of the main game's stages, talk to characters, and partake in the minigames.

(Carnival Pomni here is my 16-bit-ified design of her, her original design is by @sm-baby)

Each of the doors will take you to the Zone Map of a stage when you enter them, from which you'll be able to choose which of the two (or three) acts to play through, in addition to the boss act, which is only available after completing all of a stage's acts.

If you don't feel like rummaging around a Zone Map for a specific act, you can always press RT to bring up the Act Select menu. In this menu you can also switch to another stage's Zone Map by pressing LB or RB.

In the Carnival, you also have other areas to explore, which are unlocked by progressing through the game (only for the current save file), such as the Museum, the Movie Theatre and, of all things, the Chao Garden, from the Sonic Adventure duology.

So yesterday I was experimenting with something... and that is, I wanted to see how StHCA's level select screen would look with the resolution of a PAL Mega Drive. (320x240)

Of course I won't really turn this into a Genesis game, this is more of a... proof of concept, so to say.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Carnival Adventure (Fanfic) - Chapter 6 Preview

Here's the preview for Chapter 6 of Sonic the Hedgehog: Carnival Adventure, a Sonic fanfic which is also a crossover with @sm-baby's The Amazing Digital Carnival AU!

Since this fic is also based on the (upcoming) game of same name, Chapter 6 is an adaptation of Marbled Mines Zone, the 7th stage. Keep in mind this is only a small fragment of what's to come!

"Pomni? Hey, Pomni, wake up!"

Sonic's voice awoke the little jester, who became startled at how loud he spoke. Pomni got up from the ground, rubbing her eyes and taking a look at her surroundings. Those 5 hours of sleep really paid off.

The group was still inside Pomni's tent; the lights were turned off, meaning Pomni could see nothing but a giant black void surrounding her. She reached her hands out to try and grab something, immediately feeling... a round and soft object.

"Gh- hey, Pomni, it's me! What are you doing? Knock it off!'

Turns out what Pomni was grabbing onto was Sonic's nose. The jester flinched upon hearing the hedgehog's voice, backing away.

"Oh, sorry about that... it's too dark in here, I can't even SEE anything!"

"Is there a light switch in here? There HAS to be a light switch, otherwise we're gonna be standing around here looking like idiots!" Sonic folded his arms annoyed, still being invisible to Pomni in the dark void.

"One minute..." Pomni tiptoed around the tent in search of the switch, hoping to not wake the others up. "I'm pretty sure there is a light switch here, but it's been a while since I last checked... w- ow!"

Pomni had hit her head on a wall, flinching from the pain. She tried frantically grabbing at the air looking for whatever it was, but ended up slamming her hand against the wall, sliding. "Where's that light switch, dang it?! Sonic, can you hel-"

Click! Suddenly, the lights turned on as Pomni accidentally had found the light switch, illuminating the entire room. Even she was shocked.

"Hey, good job, Pompom! Was getting real boring in here, I'm not really fond of the darkness" Sonic stretched his legs as far as he could. "Is everyone else awake? We need to get going."

"Time for a knu... ckle sandwich" Knuckles finally rose from his slumber, looking around observationally. "Oh, 'sup, guys. Real cozy in here, ain't it? Ah, if only I was at Angel Island right now... better hope that egghead didn't steal the Master Emerald again."

"Hey, Knucks, we need to get everyone up and runnin'. We got a mission to complete right now."

"Huh? Oh, right. Tails, Amy, get up!"

"Good morning..." Tails yawned, his namesake wagging softly. His eyes were droopy, as if he hadn't got any sleep at all. "Actually, does time even pass in here? Man, where's a clock when you need one?"

"What a lovely day!" Amy chanted. "And- oh, we're still here. Aw, bummer, I was hoping I could get back to my tarot cards! When is this going to end?"

"We just gotta keep our fingers crossed, it'll end eventually. Anyways, we should get going. I have a feeling there's something hidden around this place. Or rather, somethings. We have to be on our toes here." Sonic dusted off his shoes.

"Ugh, I just hope this isn't the work of that egghead. I'd kick his butt if it were, I ain't gonna get fooled by him no more!" Knuckles pressed his fists together furiously.

The group headed out of Pomni's room and into the hallway. Sonic looked down and noticed a red carpet, which wasn't there before they entered the room. Perhaps a sign of reformation? No clue. They walked across the passage, passing by rows upon rows of doors... but suddenly, something caught the team's attention.

At the corner of his eye, Sonic saw a door that looked vastly different from others; it wasn't made of wood, but of silver. It wasn't there before they'd entered the circus tent. Could it be that a new AI had entered the game? Or was the door guarding something very important? Sonic caught the group's attention by pointing to the door."

Well, that's new. Is someone reforming this place? Or is this some sort of safe? Pomni, have you ever SEEN that door before?" Sonic turned his head to face the jester.

"No...? I- I mean, I'm not really sure what THAT is. For all I know there could be some... some kind of MONSTER hiding inside! O- or a new player, or..."

"Actually, let me take a look." Tails shuffled towards the silver door in curiosity, his tails wagging desperately. He opened the door as slowly as he could, thinking something could jump out of it at any moment...

...but to his immediate surprise, as the door opened, it revealed what appeared to be a corridor full of boulders. The fox glanced at it with confusion, as he knew that traditional carnivals normally wouldn't have these kinds of places. Much less a corridor of... rocks. Rocks.

"Uh, hey Pomni..."

"Yeah?"

"...Are you sure this place didn't have a door that opened to a bunch of rocks here before? Because..."

The jester walked over to the door, setting her glance on the boulder corridor. She looked at it for about 10 seconds before walking away and returning to the group, shrugging.

"Yeah, I don't remember this... I mean, how did THAT even get in here?"

"I dunno 'bout you, Poms, but there HAS to be something beyond this corridor." Sonic's determination sparked up as he approached the door again. "We can't just sit around expectin' something to happen, we have to find out where this leads to."

"But Sonic, wh- what if there's a PIT on the other side??" Pomni panicked. "I- I don't think this is-"

"Sonic likes throwing himself into danger, so I'm certain this isn't really any different. Regardless, we have to be careful about this" Tails remarked.

"Alright, who's goin' first?" Knuckles slammed his fists together a bit too excitedly. "A group ain't going inside without the brawns, y'know."

current fan creation landscape is kinda like if you went to a party with a homemade cake and everyone takes a slice and silently thumbs up at you with no attempt to start a conversation except for occasionally some guy sits in the corner with a tape recorder critiquing the cake as though he was a restaurant critic and another guy is handing the cake to an uber driver like "yeah i need you to find a restaurant that makes cake like this so i can have more of it" and the only person that's talked to you in 30 minutes is a very sweet little guy who was like "hey i liked your cake" and then ran away apologizing for bothering you the moment you said thank you.
