You are invited to view the new collection of handwoven cushion covers, depicting charming figurative scenes and planes of mellow gradients.
Respect for old knowledge and craftsmanship is at the core of these designs, which feature an amalgamation of traditional elements with modern minimal weaves.
At the workshop one can also find a variety of delightful handwoven items like bracelets, shawls, mobile phone cases, cushion covers, pouches and glass-mats.
All make unique beautiful Christmas presents!

When it comes to weaving, ancient tools and techniques are still relevant.
A contemporary piece, informed by modern currents can be produced while utilising processes that respect traditional craftsmanship.

A new design for a cushion cover. The female figure is adapted from traditional weaves but the rest of the delightful outing depiction was conjured up by myself 🌲🦮👫🐕‍🦺🕊️.

The colourful pattern on this loom is indicative of its origin, which is Eptakomi village. . Painting bold geometric patterns on furniture was common practice in Eptakomi, a tradition applied on looms too. . It was sold to me by refugees many years ago and it bears the husband's initials as opposed to those of the weaver's on one of its beams.

Here is Theano from Phyti weaving an intricate ploumi. We won’t be learning this particular one but the ‘kamaroua’ (little arch) and ‘mostres’ (stripes) preceding it on Theanos loom shall be covered!

'Chromatin Loops' close-ups showing one of the multifarious effects that can be achieved by combining different yarns.
Due to the raised appearance of weaves such as this one, they are often mistaken for embroideries. However, the design is in-woven and forms a part of the internal fabric structure as opposed to an addition on top.

The looms on which the pieces in my web-shop are woven, reside in a 19th century building that has been in the family for six generations. . My aunt Christalleni -a dressmaker- held sewing and embroidery apprenticeships here in the 1930s. Creative endeavours have always been encased within these walls!

Big thank you to everyone who has acquired the Phytiotiko Weaving book🤍! . I hope that the publication aids in the preservation of traditional Phyti weaves. Drafts and diagrams are included, for those wishing to attempt the basic designs on their looms. . The book can be purchased directly from myself (international shipping available) and it costs €23 plus postage. Do send an email at [email protected] if you are interested!

Very happy that my book on Fytiotiko weaving is finally out! . It covers traditional weave layouts, names and origins of woven elements (ploumia) as well as Fytiotika trading history, among others. Weave drafts and diagrams can also be found in the appendices. . Here is a piece (1st photo) by Mrs Georgia Theodorou (47*139cm) with some complex tassel work at the lower end.

Handwoven shoulder bag from the Sacred Geometry series, with faux leather. . Its pattern revolves around the triangle, a shape with strong philosophical connotations, which creates harmonious visual effects.
